Charlie Brown's All Stars! (TV Short 1966) Poster

(1966 TV Short)

Sally Dryer: Lucy van Pelt

Quotes

  • Linus : [to the girls about Charlie Brown's decision, which they were complaining about]  Well, if you must know, Charlie Brown was only thinking about your feelings.

Lucy van Pelt , Patty , Frieda , Violet : What do you mean our feelings?

Linus : Well, the only reason Charlie Brown turned Mr. Hennessey down was because he'd have to get rid of Snoopy and you girls. Mr. Hennessey said that the league wouldn't accept girls and dogs on a team.

[Upon hearing this the girls all look at each other in shock, and Snoopy breaks down crying]

Schroeder : I think we were pretty rough on Charlie Brown. You girls are very thoughtless. Don't you think Charlie Brown has feelings? All of you are the most thoughtless bunch I've ever known! You don't care anything about Charlie Brown! He's been loyal to you because he thinks you're his friends. But do you ever act like friends? No! Those uniforms meant as much to Charlie Brown as they did to you! Probably more!

[the girls and Snoopy become sad and guilty]

    Frieda : I feel terrible.

Violet : But what can we do?

Lucy van Pelt : Hey, maybe we can make it up to Charlie Brown by making him a uniform.

[Looks at his blanket and realizes what he said as he tightly hugs his blanket]

Linus : Yes, that might pep him up, but we don't have any material.

Lucy van Pelt : [Smiles evilly]  Oh, yes, we do.

[Takes Linus' blanket and leaves with the girls and Snoopy]

Lucy van Pelt : Give me that stupid blanket.

    Linus : Aaugh!

  • Charlie Brown : Lucy, if you grit your teeth and show real determination, you always have a chance. Let's see you grit your teeth.

    [Lucy grits her teeth]

Charlie Brown : Fantastic! You'll scare the pitcher to death! Go get a hit!

    [Strike One]

Lucy van Pelt : Get a hit? I can't even see the pitcher!

    [Strike Two, Strike Three]

Lucy van Pelt : This bat is no good. It's too light. That ball they're using is no good, either! How can *anyone* get a hit when the sun is this bright? I bat better when it's cloudy.

    Charlie Brown : Good grief.

  • Lucy van Pelt : You don't think Charlie Brown will try to steal home, do you?

Patty : No way! Not even Charlie Brown is stupid enough to do that.

Charlie Brown : I wonder if I should try to steal home?

  • Charlie Brown : Well, tomorrow starts another baseball season and...

Linus : I've worked up a few statistics about our baseball team, Charlie Brown. I think you'll find they have something to say to all of us.

Lucy van Pelt : I'll *bet* they have a lot to say!

Charlie Brown : What do they have to say?

Linus : Well, last year, our opponents scored 3,000 runs to our total of six runs. They made 4,900 hits to our 11 hits. And they made four errors to our 375 errors. And while we were losing 999 straight games, we...

Charlie Brown : I don't think I'm gonna get much sleep tonight.

  • Charlie Brown : Are there any questions?

Frieda : I have a question, Charlie Brown. Do I have to play right field again? Nobody in the stands can see my naturally curly hair.

Schroeder : And if I don't get time off to practice Beethoven, I'm not going to play catcher!

Lucy van Pelt : And we can't keep up that ridiculous infield chatter, like, "Come on, Charlie Brown!" "Attaboy!" "You can do it!" Because you can't do it, Charlie Brown. So you're turning us into a bunch of hypocrites.

Frieda : And we don't like being hypocrites. Baseball's supposed to build character, not tear it down.

Charlie Brown : All right, all right. Let's show a little cooperation. Take your positions. Pigpen, has the other team shown up?

    Pigpen : Unfortunately, yes.

  • Charlie Brown : All right, here we go, the first pitch of the season. We have to get this first one right over the plate.

    [pitches]

Charlie Brown : There it is! Right over the plate... and clear over the backstop.

Lucy van Pelt : What kind of a pitcher are you? You threw the first ball of the season clear over the backstop!

Charlie Brown : It sort of got away from me.

Lucy van Pelt : Well, try to be more careful, Charlie Brown! You almost hit my mother!

  • Violet : It's coming down, Charlie Brown!

Lucy van Pelt : The fly ball is coming down!

Charlie Brown : If I catch it, I'll be the hero. If I miss it, I'll be the goat. I can hear it now. "Charlie 'The Goat' Brown".

[the ball lands in Charlie Brown's mitt, but drops]

Violet , Lucy van Pelt , Linus : AAUGH!

  • Violet , Linus , Lucy van Pelt : It's a high-fly ball!

Violet : Catch it, Charlie Brown!

    Linus : Catch it!

Violet : Have you got it, Charlie Brown?

    Linus : Don't miss it!

Lucy van Pelt : Get under it, Charlie Brown!

    Violet : Isn't this exciting?

Linus : What if he drops it?

Lucy van Pelt : If he drops it, let's all kick him!

  • Charlie Brown : I just want to tell you how pleased I am with the spirit you've been showing. I like the way you're talking it up out there. I like to hear lots of chatter.

Lucy van Pelt : Don't be so polite, Charlie Brown. Why don't you just come right out and say you're glad you have a team of loudmouths?

  • Patty : Why do we have to suffer every year like this?

Lucy van Pelt : Well, maybe that blockhead, Charlie Brown, won't show up this time, and maybe we'll have a chance.

Charlie Brown : Well, team, here I am!

Patty , Lucy van Pelt , Schroeder , Shermy : Disaster time! We're doomed!

    Snoopy : Owoooooooooooo!

Charlie Brown : What a team! Good grief. No manager goes through what I do.

  • Lucy van Pelt : I'm quitting! It's ridiculous to play on a team that always loses! This team will never amount to anything! I refuse to play left-field for a sinking ship!

  • Lucy van Pelt : Hey, Frieda, how are things in right field?

Frieda : Kind of boring. You going to the party Wednesday afternoon?

Lucy van Pelt : I sure am! You should see what my mother bought me to wear! It's a white party dress with a huge sash of sugar pink satin!

[Lucy holds out her arms and a fly ball lands into her mitt. She walks up to Charlie Brown and hands him the ball]

Lucy van Pelt : That's the ol' pepper, Charlie, ol' boy! That's a pitchin' in there!

  • Charlie Brown : It's very lonely out here on the pitcher's mound. It's hard sometimes to bear all this responsibility, but suddenly, you seem to realize that you are not really alone. Actually, you are surrounded by loyal teammates.

Lucy van Pelt : C'MON, YOU BLOCKHEAD! TRY TO GET ONE OVER THE PLATE!
