While streaming services like Shudder, Screambox, Netflix, Hulu, Max, Paramount+ and Prime Video are loaded with frights to stream for Friday the 13th, don’t forget that the nightmares aren’t limited to streaming. Good old fashioned cable television is always a great source of horror this time of the year, and that’s doubly true on a day like Friday the 13th.

In this interview legendary Grindhouse director William Grefe discusses filming in the swamp, snake attacks, signing William Shatner at the airport and the truth about the Florida Yeti.
Did you ever think your films would be given the Blu-ray treatment like this?
In all my emails and Facebook, people from all over the world love this Blu-ray edition. I’m hearing from strangers and people I’ve met over the years – it’s interesting how people love the old grindhouse movies. It’s a lost art. Arrow have called this boxset He Came From The Swamp – they won’t let me out of the Everglades however hard I try!
What was it like filming in the Everglades?
I’ve been out in the Everglades ever since I was a kid, because I was born in Miami… The only film I made which was a nightmare, Sting of Death, the producer had never produced a movie,...

Get Ready for Halloween with Some Vintage Horror on Turner Classic Movies this September and October
I don’t know about you, but this writer is more than ready to start looking forward to the Halloween season. And one of the staples of my own ongoing cinematic celebration every year is checking out all the wonderful classic horror movies that Turner Classic Movies airs on their channel. And considering the mess that 2020 has been over the last several months, I thought this year it might be helpful to also include all the genre films that will be playing on TCM throughout the month of September, as it’s never too early to get ready for Halloween.
Check out all the great classic horror movies playing on the small screen over the next two months on TCM, and be sure to set those DVRs so you don’t miss any of the classic films that are sure to get you into the Halloween spirit this year.

Film Ranch International sent along the news that it’s teaming with Tampa, Florida’s Gasparilla Film Festival to present a rare big-screen showing of the 1967 B-flick Death Curse Of Tartu. The movie’s director, exploitation veteran William Grefé, will be on hand for a Q&A.
Death Curse, in which a group of archaeology students are menaced by the murderous spirit of an ancient Native American medicine man, will be screened this Saturday, February 28 at 8:10 p.m. at Tampa’s Channelside Theaters (615 Channelside Drive). Following the movie, Grefé will be interviewed by St. Petersburg Times film critic Steve Persall about his lengthy career, which also encompasses the killer-snake movie Stanley, the killer-shark flick Mako: The Jaws Of Death and the William Shatner-starrer Impulse. (La-area fright fans can meet Grefé when he appears as part of a Stanley reunion at our La Weekend of Horrors.) Death Curse will...

The man who gave the world the rattlesnake terror of Stanley and William Shatner suffering a murderous Impulse is now finding his own legacy slithering into documentary form. William Grefé (pictured), the director whose drive-in classics also include Death Curse Of Tartu and Mako: The Jaws Of Death, will be the subject of a full-length documentary exploring his entire cinematic history.
The feature is being put together by Daniel Griffith, who worked on this month’s Bci Eclipse DVD of Stanley, and the Florida-based Grefé tells Fango, “It will be released soon. It covers my whole film career, and they interviewed about 12 people I have worked with, including the actor Johnny Chandler. We even got William Shatner involved; he provides commentary over some hilarious behind-the-scenes footage of Impulse. I was in his office during a recent trip out to Los Angeles for a double bill of Stanley and Impulse at the New Beverly Cinema.
