One of the better Daffy/Speedy cartoons

Warning: Spoilers
This might have a spoiler in it, but I am not sure. Now, I am a HUGE Looney Tunes fan, and I enjoy most of the cartoons, but I found the Daffy Duck and Speedy Gonzales team-up a rather odd choice. However, this is one of the better entries from 1968. Rather than acting completely bitter and trying to get Speedy, Daffy relies on the fastest mouse in Mexico to help with his sleepwalking problem. Unfortunately, Speedy looks quite ugly at some points, and Daffy isn't always drawn on-model. The music, which is by Bill Lava, doesn't really sound like Looney Tunes music (it's more like Hanna-Barbera music) and the animation gets a bit choppy at times, but this is actually a bit enjoyable! However, this cartoon contains one of the many variants of the classic skyscraper-walking-and-avoiding-danger element, but it isn't used much here. Plus, during his big fall, Daffy breaks a clock tower, bounces on a flagpole, hangs on a window bar, etc, until Speedy rescues him. Plus, not only do we get the classic Warner Bros. sound effects, we also have plenty of Hanna-Barbera sounds added, too! ("Looney Tunes Back in Action" used a cross of WB and H-B sound FX, too.) Overall, an interesting film and you should see how different this Speedy/Daffy cartoon is!

One of the better Daffy/Speedy cartoons

I am not a huge fan of the Daffy/Speedy cartoons, some are decent, most are mediocre, some like See Ya Later Gladiator are among my least favourite Looney Tunes cartoons. Skyscraper Caper is one of the decent ones. It is imperfect though, it is rather short, Bill Lava's music lacks flavour and sounds rather tacky sometimes and the animation is inconsistent with some okay colours but some washed out backgrounds and quite ugly character design for Speedy. However, it is a change of pace and a refreshing one at that, instead of the manic and greedy Daffy, here he actually needs Speedy to help with his sleepwalking problem. The dialogue is reasonably funny, the gags are good and the sleepwalking scenes are classic. Plus Mel Blanc excels voicing the characters here as he always did. All in all, pretty decent. 7/10 Bethany Cox

one of my favorite Daffy and Speedy cartoons

Warning: Spoilers
While many Looney Tunes fans dislike the cartoons pairing Daffy Duck and Speedy Gonzales, I actually like them. They are enjoyable, whether Daffy has a reason to be Speedy's enemy or not. In Skyscraper Caper, however, they are actually friends. It's interesting that in this cartoon, despite their friendship, Speedy charges Daffy for helping prevent Daffy from sleepwalking, and Daffy actually doesn't mind paying Speedy.

I'd read about this cartoon years ago, and was a bit surprised when I finally saw it. I expected Daffy to sleepwalk into the construction site at night, yet he sleepwalks in the morning. I also didn't expect Daffy to wake up while at the construction site; I merely expected him to sleepwalk through the site.

However, this is a great cartoon. Other great Daffy and Speedy cartoons include Rodent to Stardom, Daffy Rents, and A Ship in the Deep. Your opinion may differ, of course.
