Abnormally uninspired sexploitation
jivers0113 April 2013
This is one of those cinematic bookends that marks the end of the gritty, black & white grind-house era. Full-color porno flicks with explicit sex scenes were just a year away -- and they would render the soft-core nudies and roughies of the Sixties obsolete.

This ultra-cheap film was shot silent with post-production narration and jazz/rock music added to make up for the lack of live dialog. There is no plot or character to speak of, just a series of flimsy setups for displaying lots of nudity, simulated sex, and some kinky behavior.

The story, such as it is, involves a psychiatrist treating a bevy of lovely female patients. Vickie is a sadistic dominatrix who likes to tie up her boyfriend and whip the crap out of him. Sherry is a married woman addicted to "dirty sex" with strangers she picks up for kicks. Kathy is a teenage nympho who just can't get enough. Married couple Fred and Janet enjoy having a threesome with lesbian Barbara.

This compilation of raunchy soft-core scenes goes about a far as anyone dared to in the Sixties short of making full-on porn. Oddly enough, this is the only known film by George Rodgers. It is surprising that he did not follow his sexploitation colleagues such as Ron Sullivan (aka Henri Pachard) and Roberta Findlay into making X-rated films in the next decade.

A deliciously sordid 60s soft-core sleazefest
Woodyanders9 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
A psychiatrist treats a bevy of lovely, but deviant female patients. Said patients are a pretty messed-up bunch. Sadist Vickie derives sick kicks from beating up guys and then tying them up. Unhappily married Sherry is addicted to engaging in dirty sex with total strangers. Insatiable teenage nympho Kathy just can't get enough. Married couple Fred and Janet enjoy having a threesome with lesbian Barbara. Director George Rodgers, working from a trashy script by Martin Lathrop, delivers plenty of in-your-face explicit nudity and really raunchy soft-core sex. A heavy-handed narrator babbles incessantly about the girls' severe sexual hang-ups. H. M. Schultz's rough, grainy black and white photography greatly adds to the pervasive seediness. Arthur Lindsey's wild free-form jazz score likewise does the groovy trick. The wonderfully wretched theme song is downright hilarious. Best of all, the women look quite attractive and aren't the least bit bashful about showing off their nice natural naked bodies at pleasingly regular intervals. Moreover, there's all kinds of seamy carnal activity on display throughout. A satisfyingly scuzzy slice of pure unadulterated junk.

The Abnormal Female (1969)

** (out of 4)

Rather raunchy sexploitation picture about a psychiatrist who talks about several of his female patients and sure enough each of them has an issue with sex. This includes a woman who likes to beat up men, countless women wanting to express their wild side and even a newlywed couple who plan on having sex at least once a day. THE ABNORMAL FEMALE is a pretty raunchy little picture that should keep fans of this type of thing entertained. Of course, if you're looking for great filmmaking or Oscar-winning performances then you're not going to find it here but if you just want cheap sex and a lot of nudity than this here should leave a smile on your face. I was a little surprised to see how raw some of this material is and you'll get a "preview" of everything during the opening credits where we're shown clips from the stories that are to follow. You'll notice a lot of frontal nudity that leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination and this here really makes this one more raw than countless others released from this period. Are the stories erotic? Not really but I don't think they really have to be for this type of film to work. I will say that a big bonus is that the majority of the girls are extremely cute and God knows they weren't afraid to take it all off. As with most films like this, after a while the entertainment wears off and you're left with a slow pace that certainly doesn't help.
