Thirty years ago when filming his role as the wisecracking Han Solo in the Star Wars trilogy's The Empire Strikes Back, Harrison Ford was aware of costar Alec Guinness's reputation as a great actor. "But I thought he was an old man: an old, wonderful actor," Ford, now 67 (he was 37 back then), said at Thursday night's 30th anniversary screening of the intergalactic hit at L.A.'s Arclight Theater, benefitting St. Jude's Children’s Research Hospital. Ewan McGregor has confessed he's in love with Princess Leia from Star Wars.
The actor - who went on to play Obi-Wan Kenobi in three prequels to the original series - revealed his devotion to Carrie Fisher's feisty princess at a charity screening to mark the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back.
"I've spent a great many years being deeply, deeply in love with Princess Leia," said the 39-year-old.
"There's still a part of my heart that is quite deeply in love with her - both as a character and an actress."
The happily-married Scottish star says he was a huge fan of the original Star Wars trilogy as a child, not least because his uncle Denis Lawson appeared as rebel fighter pilot Wedge Antilles.
He said his childhood dream came true when he got to play Alec Guinness's character Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequels...

I think we can all agree that Han Solo will probably go down as one of the most beloved characters in film history. Granted, he was just an update on an old theme, but we all love a swaggering bad-boy with a heart of gold, don't we? Han has inspired plenty of fan art over the years...not to mention the occasional piece of office furniture, and you would think that fans would have run out of ideas by now, right? Well, not quite, so may I introduce: Han Solo P.I.
Devoted Star Wars fan TheCBVee has created a great little mash-up of scenes of Han Solo repacked as the opening credits for Magnum P.I., and as someone who grew up with the mustachioed private eye, this thing is spot-on (TheCBVee also provided a handy little side-by-side comparison of the original opening and his creation). You've got Alec Guinness filling in for Higgins,...
