Candy Samples' legion of fans know the truth -she is a "saver" who can pump life into the most mundane movie (or magazine layout for that matter). THE ELEVATOR is a perfect example -she provides a classic scene while the rest of the action is ho-hum.
Premise is an old chestnut: Sandi Carey blows up at her neglectful, workaholic boyfriend, storms out and gets stuck in the building's elevator. Unfortunately she's trapped with Jim Frost, a tiresome guy (who's place in film history was starring in the gay classic L.A. PLAYS ITSELF, not his roles in straight films).
It's no surprise that they eventually have sex together, but on the way we witness random memories. One of these flashbacks has Candy Samples doing a number on good old Adam Ward - a classic demonstration by CS of the art of fellatio.
While that scene more than justifies sitting through this feature, note that anyone studying the art of acting will want to sample the "in two" vignettes of Sandi and Jim killing time in the lift. I've never seen such a sustained bit of twitching, eye rolling and basic nervousness condensed here as neither untrained thesp has a clue what they're doing. Even a Laraine Newman and a Dana Carvey doing a Saturday Night Live sketch trapped in an elevator could not exaggerate to the extent seen here -it's horrible.
