- The U.S DVD (released by Cheezy Flicks and titled "It Happened at Nightmare Inn") runs 67 minutes and features a heavily edited print which removes all shots of nudity, stabbings and dead bodies, and the entire relationship between Veronica and Luis. The UK Odeon DVD (released as "A Candle For The Devil") runs 83 minutes and is the full uncut version.
- Theatrical versions - "Una vela para el Diablo", director's cut presented at Cannes' film market 1973, with a running time of 120 minutes, became legendary, and invisible, after the film was subjected to the Spanish censorship, that approved it at 83 m 31 s, with no permission to international broadcast. Re-titled "A Candle for the Devil",and English dubbed, this version was approved with additional cuts by the BBFC in April 1974, and rated X. This heavily cut version was distributed in some European countries and the USA.
- Video versions - Re-titled "The Sadista Sisters"it was shown in the early 1980's at the Boulevard Theater, the upstairs of the Raymond Revue Bar Theatre, in Soho, London, UK, in a non rated version, before the Video Recordings Act 1984 became law. An English dubbed, Swedish subtitled PAL VHS version, runs at 83 m 12 s. An English dubbed, Dutch subtitled version cut for TV broadcast, runs at 67 minutes, missing the first crime and several relevant scenes to character building. This was available in a bootleg American NTSC VHS, announcing 120 minutes on the cover. It may be the same version re-titled "Nightmare Hotel" (NTSC VHS), announced at 95 minutes.
- DVD versions - "A Candle for the Devil" running 83 m 12 s was approved in April 2008 by the BBFC (UK Odeon, Region 2) 19 seconds shorter than the theatrical X version, re-rated 18. Re-titled "It Happened at Nightmare Inn", it was released in November 20, 2007 (USA Cheezy Flicks Entertainment, Region 1) with an announced running time of 90 minutes, but based again on the heavily cut 67 minutes video, missing nudity, stabbings, dead bodies, and the relationship between Veronica and Luis.
