Astronaut Jim Lovell called this movie "fictitious and in poor taste". He "resented the mixing of fact and fiction" and said that if NASA wanted publicity they should have endorsed a story of a fictitious space flight.
Movie includes actual radio transmissions from the Apollo 13 flight (that's actually Jim Lovell and crew you hear), intercut with the actors reading Mission Control's lines.
Apart from stock footage at the beginning there is no on-board footage or special effect shots.
Jack Swigert (CMPilot) is quoted in NASA transcripts as saying "...we've got a problem here." When CAPCOM Jack Lousma asks the crew to repeat the transmission, Lovell actually does say "Houston, we've had a problem."
"Houston, We Have A Problem" was remade and the story/script revised to make it more accurate. Ron Howard was praised by Jim Lowell himself.
