Cunningham was nearing the end of her life when this film was made, but she was still plenty spunky. Anyone concerned with modern photography or West Coast culture--or who just wants to see a nonagenarian give a good account of herself--ought to see this film. I have been showing it to my students for thirty years, to their great appreciation.
The title of the film arises when Cunningham is filmed talking about funerals while standing in a military cemetery in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the deadpan photographer sets the tone for the rest of the film in a hilarious fashion. But there is ample biographical material and an excellent selection of Cunningham's photographs as well. Imogen's account of a visit with Alfred Stieglitz in the thirties is priceless.
