Velvet Brown : Who did?
Sarah Brown : This boy.
John Seaton : Wait, wait a minute. Tell me again. He had a what?
Sarah Brown : A dead finger.
Sarah Brown : Well, I'm sure it wasn't a real finger.
John Seaton : No, no, no. If the child says she saw it, she saw it. I'll take her to school this morning and sort it all out.

John Seaton : Yes
Velvet Brown : What?
John Seaton : Bloody thing is delayed, that's what's happened.
Velvet Brown : Is this tea or coffee?
John Seaton : Soldier's coffee. Could be tea, could be tea.
Velvet Brown : How do you think I ought to deal with all this?
John Seaton : You mean, Sarah?
Velvet Brown : Help me write some of your best dialogue. Last time I saw her she wasn't much older than that.
John Seaton : Oh, now, come on, come on. You worry too much. Children always cope with death.
Velvet Brown : In books you mean?
John Seaton : No, I didn't mean that. They cope with it. You did. I did.
