Sex & Nudity

  • The plot revolves around a man getting a woman pregnant out of wedlock
  • A number of scenes are supposedly set in brothels and a number of characters are prostitutes, but no sex or nudity ever occurs on screen.
  • A man attempts to blackmail a nun into having sex with him
  • A number of veiled allusions and sophisticated humor pertaining to sexuality.

  • There is the implied threat of rape, violence, and death, but none of that actually occurs in the film on screen.
  • The sound of whipping and torture can be heard in a prison, but very little is actually seen
  • A bloody and decapitated head is carried and seen briefly, but it is not very realistic.

  • Several characters smoke and drink in one scene.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Moments of great emotional distress when a man is seemingly about to be executed.
  • Several scenes take place in a prison. These scenes are accompanied by screaming and shouting while prisoners reach from their cells.

Sex & Nudity

  • Near the end, a woman disguises herself so that Lord Angelo will have sex with her while thinking she is different woman. This occurs, although off screen. This is a major incident in the plot.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A man tries to force a nun to have sex with him against her will and threatens to kill her brother if she does not consent. This does not occur, but it is an occasion of immense emotional and psychological distress.
