The opening shot of the street signs in both halves of the "Movie Movie" double feature mimic the opening shots of street signs in "42nd Street"; in addition, the plot of "Baxter's Beauties of 1933" (dying producer wants one last hit, chorus girl takes over for star who has broken her ankle) is largely based on that of "42nd Street"
The latter part of "Baxter's Beauties" consists of musical selections from the "stage production" of "Baxter's Beauties," each one preceded by a shot of the page in the program listing the number, which is how the musical numbers at the end of "The Band Wagon" are introduced.
The "trailer" for "Zero Hour" includes dialogue (quoted and parodied) from "The Dawn Patrol"; the rolling titles (starting with "Zero Hour") parody those in the trailer for "The Dawn Patrol"; and at least one of the aerial combat shots is lifted directly from "The Dawn Patrol"
