This 1980 Spanish film came on the other night on a cable channel. Not having an idea what it was all about, we decided to take a chance. The main attraction was that Argentine actor, Hector Alterio, was in it, also the beautiful Emma Suarez, and Fernando Rey were featured in the cast. Alas, judging by the end result, this film does not add anything to the careers of the principals.
The film, as directed by Miguel Angel Rivas, does not go anywhere. It is based on a novel by Rosa Chacel, and the director assisted in its transfer to the screen. To be fair, the copy shown was badly faded. The original colors, which one can see were vivid, now had a washed out look. It was shot in Cuenca, a magical city of Spain and in Valladolid, although not much of it appears in the picture. "Memorias De Leticia Valle" takes place in the early days of the twentieth century.
The young Leticia, a teen ager, lives at home with his ailing father, whose malady is never explained, and an aunt. She is being taught by a piano teacher, Luisa, whose husband also gets involved becoming the girl's private tutor. He develops a passion for his pupil, something that will end badly for everyone.
