Daffy is one of Looney's best and funniest characters, as well as one of the most popular. Daffy Flies North is neither among his best or worst(the worst of his outings with Speedy), instead it falls into the watchable but lacklustre category. The animation and gags are hit and miss. The colours are varied and lush-looking and the characters don't look too bad but there can be a lack of detail and finesse. The best gags are Daffy trying to get onto the saddle of the horse and the ending, none of them are major misfires(they don't at least go on for too long) but none are hilarious, the best are amusing and fun but the gags generally could have done with sharper timing and crisper pacing. The story is predictable and not always exciting but is well sustained within the 7 minute length. The music is characterfully orchestrated, blends really well with the visuals and has the energy that the pacing did lack. Daffy is still the funny, charismatic and compelling character that has always been part of his appeal, while the horse is appropriately stubborn. Mel Blanc's vocal characterisations show that he still had it even very late in his career. To conclude, watchable but there's been much better from Daffy. 6/10 Bethany Cox
