A great way to learn about Dinosaurs
Terryfan4 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
As a kid I grew up loving Dinosaurs I was just a huge Dinosaur fan anything that had to do with Dinosaurs I had to watch the show, read the books and play with toys.

Dinosaurs! A Fun-Filled Trip Back In Time serves as both entertainment but also teaches kids about Dinosaurs.

Growing up I watched this VHS countless times and looking back at it now I still enjoy for the memories it had for me as a children.

It casts Fred Savage as Richard a kid who must make a science report but is stuck on what to do his report on until his radio begins to play "Mesozic Mind" a song about Dinosaurs which helps inspired him to do his report on Dinosaurs.

Along his journey to make his reports he begins to learn the history of Dinosaurs, learning how the rocks and their fossils and begins to become a Dinosaurs Detective.

The film features very good stop motion with clay animation and features photos from Dinosaurs books each photo is a wonderful work of art about the beauty and wonder of these amazing animals.

Joestte DiCarlo also provide the Narrating that helps inspired Richard to learn about the Dinosaurs. Her voice is very fitting for this video.

She makes learning about Dinosaurs interesting with her voice.

Dinosaurs! A Fun-Filled Trip Back In Time was and still one of my favorite Dinosaurs films and made learning fun which helps me later on thinking about it now.

If you can find this video you should share with your children and let them see how learning about Dinosaurs was fun.

I give Dinosaurs! A Fun-Filled Back In Time an 9 out of 10

Simply Wonderful

I loved this early Will Vinton claymation piece as a kid, and it seems to have only gotten better with age. I can still remember how utterly hilarious we all thought it was when we first saw it. Even after 20 plus years it appears to be universally admired by all who see it. It uses both "Chalkboard animation" (complete with student comments in the background) and the "claymation" style of animation for which Vinton is now famous. This piece seems to have broad appeal, both because of its popular subject and creative style. I still think this is Vinton's greatest work.

"Give me a Mesozoic Mind!!!"

Warning: Spoilers
Childhood memories, claymation, animated music videos, dinosaurs, evocative dreamscapes... what can I say? I love it!!! There are times when I wish I still had this video. There are also times when I wish my old friends at school liked it as much as I did. You find, kids, that when you become adults, your friends take more of an active interest in speciality pieces like this. Especially if they have taste. The parts I remember best are the song "Mesozoic Mind" and the claymation sequence, which now makes me think of 1980s teenage comedies, even though it centres around pre-teens (who are all unseen; a brilliant touch). So fond if this little piece am I that I have incorporated pieces of the song into a song of my own. Lord knows how successful it will be.

Utterly Unhinged and Anxiety Inducing - Perfect for Children!
cursive-1630412 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I had the pleasure of watching this film so much when I was young that I often confused it with Princess Bride, since Fred Savage was in both and I watched both movies practically daily. I'm happy to report this movie will both traumatize and fascinate your children just as well as it did in the 80s and 90s; they'll also have a leg up on dinosaur knowledge! Not to mention many many questions about the premise. Why is Phillip so dramatic during his presentation? Why are the claymation dinosaurs an actual threat to schoolchildren? Why are there looping painful nightmarish screams in the dinosaur museum at night?

This unhinged acid trip is a veritable soft launch for MKUltra style programming, and it's most certainly unforgettable!! Trust that it will eventually shape your children into intelligent, anxious, creepy adults. I believe you can find the full 30 min film free on Youtube, and there's even a website for the animated feature song, "Mesozoic Mind". 10/10, came back to rewatch 30 years later and it did not disappoint.

Nostalgic claymation fun.
zachthomason23 May 2020
I'll admit my nostalgia filter is working at full steam, but this obscure delight is worth watching for any Dinosaur or stop motion animation fan. With bright colors, prime Fred Savage likability, and bright fascinating art and models by Will Vinton it's a must for 80/90s kids and modern kids alike.

you gotta like this
lee_eisenberg3 January 2014
This claymation-live action mix casts Fred Savage as a boy writing a report on dinosaurs. The best parts are of course the scenes of the dinosaurs, all done in claymation. I really liked the "Rex and Herb" scene. "Dinosaurs!" shows that - contrary to the shorts on "Mystery Science Theater 3000" - educational films do not have to be boring. Of course, I wouldn't expect Will Vinton to make a boring movie. It's the perfect balance between silly and informative, with a lot of clever stuff. It's too bad that Will Vinton eventually got fired from his own studio after Nike's Phil Knight took it over.

So yes, do some detective work.

Forgettable dinosaur info video
Horst_In_Translation10 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This is a 27-minute documentary which uses a boy's school project to give us the basics on dinosaurs. Some of it is new, some of it (the claymation) was taken from an older Will Vinton movie. I personally did not fins the story with the school-kid to interesting or authentic and the animation wasn't really my preferred choice either. The animation in the first part is more cartoon style, but near the end it's all about Vinton's claymation. Also the voices we heard when we saw the claymation were really more annoying than credible with their aaah's and oooh's. The boy (Golden Globe nominee Fred Savage) probably got a good grade for his assignment, but this film cannot get a good grade from me and with it's 30th anniversary approaching one has to say that it really hasn't aged well. Also from the mere educational aspect it is much worse than a simple documentary on dinosaurs and I found the contents and depiction of these only suitable for very young children. Not recommended.
