Daniel Montgomery and Justin Fix know that for most people, the scariest thing to do to someone is to stare into their eyes.
“There was this poll that went out that said, ‘How long does it take for a stranger to look into another person’s eyes before they creep them out?’ It was three seconds! And that just astonished me, that we can’t look at a person passing the street for more than three seconds before a person get the creeps. To me that speaks to a human condition,” Fix said.

If you're the type of parent who falls squarely in the middle of a Venn diagram of people who enjoy fire pits and people who enjoy messing with young kids, you may be in the market for this Bb-8 fire pit from Alex Dodson and Burned By Design. The UK company has taken the lovable droid from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and charred him to a metal crisp, with the character now serving as an awesome-looking casing for flames in your backyard. Considering how beloved Bb-8 has been since even before the film came out last December, seeing him motionless and on fire might be difficult to explain to a terrified child who may think the First Order got their hands on him and dumped him to Earth.
Bb-8 isn't the only droid they've adapted into a fire pit — they've converted R2-D2 into one as well.

Life Beyond The Books
In the run-up to Season 6 of “Game of Thrones,” there was one major question that dominated the conversation — and it wasn’t if Jon Snow was really dead. The big debate was about how different the show would be now that it has gotten past the books. On the eve of the season finale, the answer to that question, at least for this long-time book reader, seems to be… not much.

Fandom, like nature, abhors a vacuum. And in the absence of new written material — and a declining amount of public participation from George R.R. Martin — fans have made a number of assumptions and decisions about what goes on behind the scenes of the show. Much of this dynamic centers on the “fast” show fixing the problems of the “slow” books.

Across his career Stephen King has taken a cue from his own heroes (Richard Matheson and Hp Lovecraft), by always keeping his nib inked in the long and short story form – standing now as one of literature’s true masters in both of these writing styles.
In turn, his skills at putting together a scary tale are something that Hollywood and TV studios cottoned onto decades ago, churning out iterations of his stories, confident that they have the legs to stand up on screen.
The reason a lot of his adaptations collapse inwards like a nudged stack of dusty VHS cassettes is due to the way King writes, where he often creates a world, situation and sends us hurtling towards – usually – a dour, closed ending. The same goes for his shorts; as while most readers of this feature will agree that his best include the...

Mild-mannered Charlie Kaufman has written some of the loopiest screenplays of the past 20 years, including Being John Malkovich (1999), Adaptation (2002), and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004): films about mind control, writing, and erased memories that also hammer out fundamental truths about love and human identity. But Kaufman hasn't released a movie since his divisive 2009 directorial debut, Synecdoche, New York. His potential followup film, Frank or Francis — a musical that he says is about the Academy Awards, a robotic screenwriting head, and "this unbridled and anonymous anger on the Internet...

After offering an introspective look at a fictional folk singer with Inside Llewyn Davis – arguably the pair’s best effort in some time – Joel and Ethan Coen are bound for the 1950s with Hail, Caesar!, a period piece that mixes elements of comedy and musical drama and sets it against the fabled Golden Age of Hollywood.
Charting the day-to-day life of a studio fixer operating at a time when business was booming in Tinsel Town, the Coen Brothers have assembled an appropriately starry cast for the feature, and today’s first trailer simply pulses with a snappy, crackling energy as it showcases the high-profile production of the title movie within the actual film.
From George Clooney’s Roman general fluffing his lines to the camp story driving the project, there will be ample light-hearted jokes littered throughout, just don’t call Hail, Caesar! a musical comedy.
Here’s what composer...

Bow down before Alex Dodson, the man who made this Darth Vader-shaped fire burner that's currently going viral.
The enterprising craftsman's business is called Burned By Design, selling a variety of pop culture-themed wood burners and fire pits.
He's been selling similar products fashioned to look like Iron Man, Batman and Ultron for over a year now, but it's taken an Australian customer to get his name out there.
Posting a video of his freshly-delivered Darth Vader fire burner to Facebook, the unnamed fan has seen over 12 million people view his clip.
Dodson also creates hearths in the shape of R2-D2, Boba Fett and the Witch-king of Angmar from The Lord of the Rings.
Here's hoping George Lucas sees the funny side and orders his own Darth Vader fireplace rather than, say, ring his lawyers.
The latest film in the series, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is out later...

You big tease! Fans may wince a little to hear the showrunner of "Fear the Walking Dead" openly admit, "We purposely built the show a bit more slowly than the original." Oof. One of the complaints about the original "The Walking Dead" -- especially in Season 2 -- was its slow pace. So if this one is going to be even slower, and the first season only has six episodes, are fans even going to have the patience to stick around for the full apocalypse in Season 2?
"Fear the Walking Dead" starts August 23 and (many) fans are excited to see the dawn of the zombie outbreak over in L.A. But we've been warned that this is a show about a dysfunctional family, and the world happens to end while they're dealing with other things. As showrunner Dave Erickson said at the TCAs press tour, "By design, we tried to make...

The zombies in Fear The Walking Dead will be in no rush to mobilize.
At the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills on Friday, showrunner Dave Erickson said the walker quotient will be decidedly light in spinoff’s six-episode first season (debuting Aug. 23). “We purposely built the show a bit more slowly than the original,” said the Ep. “We call them ‘infected’ and not ‘walkers.’ There’s absolutely going to be walkers, [but] there will be a build.

The Interceptor is BBC One's attempt to emulate classic shows like The Professionals, says creator Tony Saint.
Saint revealed at a recent press screening that his new crime thriller was inspired by the '70s shows he'd enjoyed as a boy.
"It's got action in it, it's got an element of humour in it - and it's got a double-act at the heart, so there's a buddy element to it, which harks back to classics like The Professionals and Starsky and Hutch," he said.
"Kojak is another one - I think the balance between action and peril and fun, that's one of the big things [we tried to emulate]."
Saint added that The Interceptor is designed to have a "broad appeal" and target a wide range of ages.

By design, Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart.s new comedy Get Hard is racist. Stop for one second and think about the plot. A clueless white executive (Ferrell), upon learning that he.s going to prison, hires a random black man (Hart) to train him on how to survive behind bars. Forget the fact that Hart.s character has never served time. But after the film.s World Premiere in SXSW, the audience had hard questions about the opinions in Get Hard, and director Etan Cohen stood his ground. Get Hard screened in the Paramount on Monday night in a prime slot on the SXSW 2015 schedule. During a Q-and-a session following the film, an audience member got up and accused Cohen (screenwriter on Tropic Thunder) of making a movie that is "racist as fuck," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Obviously, due to content, the movie was going to tow the...

On March 18th, VH1 is bringing you Erin and Sara Foster‘s Barely Famous, a mocku-docu-something-reality show about two sisters who definitely do not want to be on a reality show.
Take a look at the supertrailer below, and get a feel for not only the harsh look at reality shows you’ll be getting, but also several of the guest stars who will be appearing on the show.
It’s not that this general idea hasn’t come our way before, including in the form of shows like Burning Love, but I don’t think we’ve had quite as blunt an effort that specifically took on the “We’re just famous,” sub-genre.
Potentially, this one could be hilarious, and I’ll let you know a little closer to the air date, but let me know what you think about the idea.

Robson Green has admitted that he is "living the dream" with his latest series Ultimate Catch.
The Grantchester and Strike Back star returns to Quest this week for his latest fishing adventure, in which he travels around the world in search of some of the most sought-after fish, such as the Golden Dorado in Bolivia.
He told Digital Spy: "So many people and professional anglers come up to me and say, 'You are the luckiest actor on the planet', and I just reply and say, 'I'm a hard working actor'. I do a lot of prep and my father used to say, 'The harder you work the luckier you get', and 'Get a job you love, then you never have to work again in your life'.

Somehow I haven't gotten around to talking to legendary costume designer Albert Wolsky in my time, but "Birdman" presented the opportunity and here we are. With seven Oscar nominations and two wins, Wolsky is one of the titans, with a legacy on both stage and screen. Alejandro González Iñárritu's latest, then, was a fascinating project for him in that it bridged the gap between those two disciplines. But as Wolsky says in the lengthy interview below, the work in movies like this is "invisible." By design, of course, but often that leads to a lack of appreciation for what goes into outfitting a movie like this. Nevertheless, Wolsky has tried his hand at a number of extravagant productions in his day, so of course we carved out plenty of time to talk about some of those. From Bob Fosse's "Lenny" and "All That Jazz" to Sam Mendes'...

Maybe you've heard of GamerGate. Countless stories have been written about the controversy over the past two months—yes, it started that long ago—in outlets ranging from game-centric titles to our biggest national publications. GamerGate has gone mainstream in a big way, but it remains elusive and difficult to understand. If you're someone who would like to know just what GamerGate entails, check out this exhaustive piece by Deadspin writer Kyle Wagner. It's long, but it's also evenhanded and nuanced. Anyone who tries to break the whole mess down in a bite-sized YouTube video or nifty imgur link is probably trying to mislead you.

What Richard Linklater’s Boyhood accomplishes is due the highest praise; as a feat of extended cinematic biography, there have been few experiments as rounded, detailed, and character-developed as this twelve-year gamble.
Nailing my heart to the wall with a good growing-up tale is a favorite cinematic past-time going back to a lot of young, smart French faces in the 1950s and 1960s; Russian kids with militarized gazes but poetic minds; the amazing Killer of Sheep’s gentle look at black youth in 1970s Los Angeles. Richard Linklater has contributed his share of closely-observed movies on adolescence, from his debut self-starring film It’s Impossible to Learn to Plow by Reading Books (1988) and breakout indie ramble Slacker (1991)to the evergreen Dazed & Confused (1993) and Before… series (1995-2013), Linklater returns to the philosophical delusions of youth and retrospect realities of age again and again. Bryan Fischer doesn’t want to think about gay sex while eating a Whopper, Sam & Cat comes to early end, Emmy Awards are not about making audiences happy
Angelica Celaya has been cast in Constantine as Zed, who acts more as a foil for Constantine than the original female lead Liv would have. “Zed has a little more smarts, has a little more wherewithal. By design, she’s more assured. She comes from a very, very dark background. Even down to the love interest at the end of the day. Zed is the first character in the Hellblazer comics whom Constantine gets romantically or sexually involved.” So they’re going to establish that he likes girls up front. There are no plans to reshoot the pilot, as people drop in and out of Constantine’s life all the time.

For those who saw The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in theaters a year ago might have found it, familiar, in that it followed so many of the beats found in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, all the way down to a scene with Gollum crammed in. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy more than a fantasy quest and a Peter Jackson adaptation of a J.R.R. Tolkien novel, and it was created in magnificent craftsmanship, but as a stand-alone film, it left a lot to be desired. That says a lot about a film that was nearly three hours long. Oh there were technical bells and whistles and many film fans and pundits found themselves talking more about the merits of 3D or 48 frames per second more passionately than the actual story itself. We don’t think that will be the problem this time around. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug...

Chicago – Charlie Chaplin’s “City Lights” used to be more widely considered to be one of the best films ever made. In early editions of the Sight & Sound poll (the every-decade poll of film historians and critics), it appeared in the top ten regularly. Its esteem seems to have slipped a bit over the decades as some now prefer other Chaplin to “Lights” (me, I adore “Great Dictator” and “Gold Rush,” both available in Criterion Blu-ray editions as well) but the new Criterion edition reminds one why so many people consider this one of the best. It’s still a glorious gem.
Rating: 5.0/5.0
I think one of the reasons that “City Lights” maintained such esteemfor so long is the fact that it’s Undeniably one of the most influential films ever made. When one thinks of Chaplin, the mind first goes to his tramp character, who was arguably never more...
