Following news of O.J. Simpson’s passing, many are learning about his career in football and entertainment.
He was a Heisman Trophy winner in college and an NFL star throughout the 1980s. Like other athletes, he ventured into roles in movies and television.
Some of Simpson’s television roles came the year of his Heisman Trophy win, including single-episode appearances in popular shows Dragnet, Ironside, and It Takes a Thief.
In the late 1980s through the mid-1990s, he was a recurring character in the popular Naked Gun series.
The detective spoof films starred the late Leslie Nielson as Detective Frank Drebin and Simpson as Detective Fred Nordberg.
Based on scarce details, Simpson’s last movie may have been from the Naked Gun series. However, others might see him listed for the upcoming film Mayday Z.

Camp Pleasant Lake: "DeskPop Entertainment will release Thomas Walton's refreshingly indie new horror film Camp Pleasant Lake in select cinemas and on VOD February 27th! The picture, which stars 90s screen icon Jonathan Lipnicki alongside a bevvy of genre film icons, is a loving throwback to the thrilling, violent summer camp slasher films of the 1980s.
In Camp Pleasant Lake, Rick and Darlene Rutherford breathe life into the eerie remnants of an old campsite, unaware of its dark past. Strange occurrences haunt the area, mirroring the tragedies of the old camp, where two decades earlier, a young girl was kidnapped and her parents brutally murdered. Amidst chilling atmospheres and long-forgotten secrets, the couple grapples with a horrifying revelation—they are entwined in the camp's history. And as the shadows of the past collide with the present, the Rutherfords must confront the haunting histories of a sinister crime.

The deal was negotiated between Mat Levy for DeskPop Entertainment and Jared Safier and Thomas Walton of Safier Entertainment.

It’s not often that a movie which made less than $5 million at the box office will still be talked about four decades later, but Eddie and the Cruisers fits the bill. Despite the fact that it was a box office disaster, the film spawned a hit soundtrack, had a pair of hit singles, and became a cult hit through cable airings and home video. When the film was being shot, Michael Paré was a young actor working on The Greatest American Hero, and Eddie and the Cruisers was his big screen debut. Speaking at a fan event, Paré said he was as shocked as anybody else when the film started to take on a whole new life. No one was afraid of cinematic excess in the ’80s, and nothing says “cinematic excess” quite as perfectly as the rock musical, a sub-genre that took on all sorts of (rockin’ and rollin’ and just plain bitchin’) shapes in the decade that birthed everything from “Purple Rain” to “Flashdance” and “The Blues Brothers.”
Buried amongst a decade rife with musicals, rock jams, and the frequent intersection of the two is Walter Hill’s raucous “Streets of Fire,” an intensely creative rock musical fantasy filled with fantastic visuals and even better songs. It’s about as cool a film as anyone could ever hope to see, no matter the decade.
When it was released in the summer of 1984, the film was a box office bust: it made just $8 million on its $14.5 million budget, scuppering plans for an official trilogy, ultimately landing young star Diane Lane a Razzie nom (vile!), and sending...

Plot: Space scavengers and a group of mercenaries race across the cosmos in a search for a long-lost freighter that is said to contain great treasure.
Review: I have a lot of admiration for filmmakers who don’t let financial limitations stifle their creativity or force them to minimize the scope of their stories. In that regard, there’s a lot to admire about director Garo Setian’s sci-fi adventure film Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar. Just like the title instantly brings to mind Star Wars, Space Wars is reminiscent of the low budget sci-fi movies producers like Roger Corman pumped out in the wake of the original Star Wars’ success. You know, movies like Battle Beyond the Stars and the movies that featured stock footage from Battle Beyond the Stars. Space Wars just happens to have been made on an even lower budget than those had.

Chicago – The story of a drop-out rock and roll star… usually disappearing at the height of their fame… has fascinated the movies in both fiction (“Eddie and the Cruisers”) and documentary (“Waiting for Sugarman”). “Juliet, Naked” takes the premise and creates a charming, romantic story about fandom and redemptive decisions.
Rating: 4.5/5.0
All the cast is at the top of their game with a solid and very funny script. The Year of Ethan Hawke continues with another great performance by the man as the disappeared rocker. And Irish actor Chris O’Dowd nearly steals the picture as an obsessed fan, who inadvertently begins the demise of his long time relationship. Rose Byrne is his live-in girlfriend and the centerpiece of the proceedings, and she proves again that beyond her radiant good looks lies a deft and subtle comic actor. “Juliet, Naked” is a fun and intuitive life transition story, and is recognizable on many emotional levels.
Rating: 4.5/5.0

Once in a while, a show comes a long that blows you away, but is unfortunately difficult to describe. It isn’t that it’s taxing to try to convey what you appreciate about the effort, but that it’s actually hard to describe the show itself.
That may be a surprising statement, given that Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll has an official synopsis, was pitched, and has been and will be described countless times.
Sure, Denis Leary plays an aging rocker who never made it, and the series begins with him finding the daughter he never knew he had. The pull is that she sought him out so that he would write songs for her, because she wants to be famous, and he can’t afford to turn her down. Hilarity ensues.
That’s not what I mean.

I was recently forced to think about the connection between soundtracks and films, and when that relationship is taken to another level, and it moved me to create a list of some of the ones I think reach for the stars in this area.
But, I didn’t want to include those that are too obvious (though I probably did anyway), and for a very specific reason.
For example, I wasn’t interested in putting Once on the list, because really, why bother? Putting Once on the list is somehow to just repeat yourself. Pretty in Pink didn’t work either, because when your movie is a song on the soundtrack, well, you’re just telling us what’s up right there. Same with Eddie and the Cruisers. There’s probably plenty of them.
At any rate, I’ve got a list of soundtracks, and once I had it, I...

Songs On Screen: All week HitFix will be featuring tributes by writers to their favorite musical moments from TV and film. Check out all the entries in the series here. When we talk about underrated directors, it's hard not to mention Walter Hill. Hill is an underrated director, the way Michael Ritchie and Peter Yates were underrated directors, the way Roger Donaldson, Joe Dante, and Fred Schepisi are underrated directors. They’re all underrated because it’s only when you look at their filmographies that the numbers start to total up and you realize, boy, he directed a lot of really good movies. In Hill’s case, that list includes "The Warriors," "48 Hours," "The Long Riders," "Southern Comfort,: "Hard Times," "Trespass," and "Wild Bill." Some great. Some solid. (My personal favorite of those is Hard Times, a pulpy film about bare-knuckle boxers in the Great Depression.) There were clunkers...

Bad Boys 3, billed as Bad Boys for Life, will see Will Smith and Martin Lawrence back together in January 2020.
Bad Boys 3 or Bad Boys for Life, has been, up until now, a long-kept secret. The difficulty, as producer Jerry Bruckheimer said back in summer 2013, centered on the task of reuniting its duo headlining personnel. Back then, he was "trying to find a hole in Will Smith's schedule."
Having finally overcome dilatory issues, the long-awaited threequel revives the popular buddy cop film franchise of 1995's Bad Boys and 2003's Bad Boys II, both of which were directed by Michael Bay. While he ultimately dropped out of directing the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence revival vehicle, he would be replaced by a duo of up-and-comers in Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.

In his first foray in producing since winning a Tony Award for producing “Clybourne Park” on Broadway, “Selma” star Wendell Pierce has come on to produce the racial drama “Billy” with Jerry Leider (“The Jazz Singer”), TheWrap has learned. Writer-director Martin Davidson is behind the adaptation of author Albert French’s debut novel, which was published in 1995. Davidson is the filmmaker behind the cult classics “Eddie and the Cruisers” and “The Lords of Flatbush.” A “To Kill a Mockingbird”-esque drama set in 1947, “Billy” is an emotional roller-coaster that tells the story of how a small segregated town in Mississippi reacts.

Although Batman has had the most big screen versions of his character (more on that here), Superman surely holds the record for most re-castings once you add his vast television history into the equation. From Smallville to television musicals via Man Of Steel and old-school cinematic serials, The Big Blue Boy Scout sure has got around over the years.
Of course, the iconic Christopher Reeve holds the record for most filmic appearances, and remains to many film fans The Superman. Henry Cavill is surely after both of those accolades, even if the former seems the more likely goal.
While we wait for Cavill’s Supes to receive a post-Metropolis-levelling ass-whupping from Affleck’s Batman, then, let’s have a look at the actors...

Of all the movie hybrids, William H. Macy's feature directorial debut, Rudderless, is among the strangest, combining plot elements of the schlocky 1980s rock 'n' roll franchise Eddie and the Cruisers with that of somber grieving dramas like We Need to Talk About Kevin. The result, despite a few stellar moments, is a not-quite-tragic-enough meditation on mourning and self-healing, crossed with a not-quite-gritty-enough portrait of indie rockers trying to break big. A fine Billy Crudup plays a once-successful businessman turned alcoholic, houseboat-dwelling recluse, shell-shocked after the sudden death of his college-aged singer-songwriter son. At a dying open mic-bar a local teen (Anton Yelchin, in nattering Jesse Eisenberg mode) sees Crudup's chara...

Now that it is just barely summer, it’s time for the networks to try their best to get you excited for fall television. ABC wants you to get excited for their schedule, and their new shows, and I’ve got some previews for you, as well as some initial thoughts.
I have to tell you, ABC is looking more and more strange as time goes on, and the overall efforts of the network really have to make you wonder. While there are some hints of interesting shows, and one or two that might turn into worthwhile vehicles, in the Eddie and the Cruisers world of television, ABC is Joe Pantoliano, clutching his tapes, and furiously blathering about the lunacy of not giving the idiotic public what they want, especially since they keep demanding it.

Not only did that recipe become Eddie Wilson’s reason for living in the 1983 film Eddie and the Cruisers, but it has also served as the modus operandi of Elton John and Bernie Taupin since initially joining forces back in 1969.
Their opening statement, Empty Sky, sowed the seeds of greatness early on despite not producing a single track worthy of revisiting. John was still flying by the seat of his pants artistically and Taupin had yet to find his comfort zone as a poet capable of synthesizing the static with the mercurial to create something truly profound.
Nonetheless, the potential was evident, and, by the next year, they would have a bona fide smash on their hands in the form of, Your Song, an immortal ballad that wears its emotions on its sleeve while Taupin’s protagonist professes love to someone who is destined to leave the...

Birthday shoutouts go to Robert Englund, who is 66, and Harvey Fierstein is 59.
Fxx (the new channel from FX) has announced its first series, Chozen, an animated comedy about “a gay white rapper who’s newly released from prison and is on a quest for redemption and domination.” Oh Jeez. On the plus side, it’s from the creator of Archer, but on the other hand, Nick Swardson is involved, who doesn’t have a great track record with gay-themed humor. In fact, he’s terrible. Plus … Fxx is geared toward a young, presumably straight male audience, so … I have my doubts.
Out of the frying pan?

Hologram Tupac Shakur may want to watch his back because, according to Suge Knight -- who was with 2Pac when he was fatally shot in Las Vegas -- Shakur isn't dead. In a Friday (April 20) radio interview, Knight says his theory explains why Shakur's murder was never found -- because Shakur wasn't killed that night in 1996.
"Maybe the question is ... Pac's not really dead ... Pac's somewhere else," Knight tells 93.5 KDay, who theorizes that Shakur may have just wanted to retire from public life and that exhausting East coast/West coast rap feud.
"The person who supposedly cremated Tupac," says Knight. "This guy got about 3 million dollars personally from me -- cash. And next thing I know I never heard from the guy or seen him again -- he retired and left."
Asked whether he ever personally saw Tupac's body, Knight says: "Nobody seen Tupac dead."
Spinning this out to its logical conclusion,...

Although it’s nearly two-and-a-half minutes in length, the teaser trailer for director Albert Pyun’s upcoming sci-fi actioner “Cyborgs: Rise of the Slingers” doesn’t show you very much. That’s kind of impressive. What could have easily been a one minute clip is magically stretched to the breaking point, producing the needlessly lengthy video you see below. Still, something is better than nothing, and at least we know the film is still in the works. It’s been quiet on the “Rise of the Slingers” front for a while, leaving me to wonder if this flick was actually going to happen. Veteran actor Michael Pare (“Eddie and the Cruisers”) claims that the film “feels like a sci-fi ‘Expendables’”, a quote that should be proudly plastered across the picture’s promotional material. The film, which stars Paige Lauren Billiot, follows the adventures of a young girl as she traverses an extremely dangerous post-apocalyptic world.

As promised late last year, David Byrne and Will Oldham have teamed up to contribute to the soundtrack for Paolo Sorrentino’s forthcoming This Must Be The Place—the timeless story of a goth-rock star (played by Sean Penn in full Robert Smith makeup) who hunts down his father’s former Nazi tormentor. (Which we’re pretty sure was already the plot of Eddie And The Cruisers, but whatever). Byrne’s participation—all but demanded by the film’s Talking Heads-derived title, and chronicled by Byrne here before he devolves into a long tangent about Detroit—extends to performing both ...

How do I know that Dr. Crankypants’ pesky pill addiction looms large in House‘s Oct. 3 season premiere? Because TVLine managed to learn the title of the episode, and I’m getting high just reading it.
What is it?
“Twenty Vicodin.”
But what does it mean, exactly?! Let’s examine the other evidence:
We know that the action picks up with House in prison, presumably for driving his car into Cuddy’s living room in the finale.
We also know that he encounters a beautiful doctor while in the pokey, and she looks a lot like Brothers & Sisters‘ Odette Annable.
