One of the classics.
fibreoptic12 February 2004
I have to admit that i was always in to Transformers and He-man more than Thundercats but it didn't stop me from enjoying it every week after school on TV. Never bought any of the toys but i think it was because i was just slightly too old for it when the toys and TV show came out in the UK. One of the stupid things i noticed in it though was the mutants. They were the most useless bunch of bad guys ever, they always messed everything up from start to finish instead of just messing it up at the end (like most other villains do) and thank god for Mumm-ra who is a pretty decent bad guy. Thundercats is not as preachy as He-man either but it has its similarities with it. A great cartoon which is my 3rd best cartoon show from the 80's. Nice.

Great back then...but not so great now.
tmeyer49 May 2006
I loved Thundercats just as much as any other child of the 80s, I had the toys: the regular 6", the little 1" high ones, a giant Lion-O that lit up...of course they're all lost now.

But watching the episodes on DVD now is almost painful for how terrible and cheesy the shows are. The animation is cheap, though still not half as bad as shows like Pokemon. But the dialogue and voice acting are horribly overdone, the music is repeated ad nauseum...

I realize it's a kid's show, but look at shows like Dexter's Laboratory or Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends for well-done kid's shows with high production values. Let's not kid ourselves here, Thundercats was a very cheaply done kids' show with very imaginative and great characters, which serve its purpose of selling toys.

Rest assured, though, if they ever made a Thundercats movie with feature-quality animation, I'd be first in line...

The Best Cartoon Ever!
Starshimy9 July 2006
ThunderCats is the absolute best cartoon ever created. In a time when Anime was not yet that popular in the U.S., the creators of ThunderCats had the sensibility to try something new, to make ThunderCats stand apart by using Japanese cartoonists.

With the most talented voices of any cartoon, ThunderCats reached the top of the charts, an instant hit. It had sensational, original music which had a different theme for each character and the theme song was catchy and simple enough for kids to pick up and sing along.

It was truly original. In a time when heroes were macho beyond macho, Lion-O had the vulnerability of having the mind of a child trapped in the body of an adult, the result of his body aging while spending 10 Galacto years in a suspension capsule. As Tygra said in the second episode, he missed those important growing up years where a person matures into adulthood. He was truly relatable to kids.

Kids also related well to Wilykit and Wilykat, two kids on the team who had to deal with adults telling them what to do.

All the ThunderCats were superb characters, though I must say Tygra is my favorite. The cartoon blended three very important elements which helped it become a success: action/adventure storytelling, humor, and moral & ethical values. And that most kids love cats didn't hurt either.

Cartoons today stink, the 80's rocked for the best cartoons and ThunderCats were the best ever. This was my favorite cartoon as a kid and I find now watching them on DVD, I love them more than ever. It's a cartoon which both kids and adults can love.

ThunderCats Ho!

One of the best animated shows of the '80s, maybe even ever
TheLittleSongbird2 August 2010
I am a huge fan of animation, and when I came across ThunderCats I was interested. The concept intrigued me, so I decided to watch a few episodes to give it a try. In no time, I was actually hooked. ThunderCats is nothing short of brilliant. As I have said before I have seen plenty of exceptional shows, animated and non-animated, and ThunderCats is definitely one of those exceptional shows.

The animation is amazingly detailed in general, the colours and backgrounds are very sophisticated and the characters are all drawn wonderfully. There may be the odd occasion where it was perhaps imperfect but that is very minor. The music is also wonderful, the theme tune is one of the most memorable theme tunes in an animated show ever. The writing is very intelligent and thoughtful with a sense of adventure, and the story lines are incredibly deep(like I just said reviewing Gargoyles) and complex. Even more impressive are the characters, Lion-O is a courageous hero and leader, Cheetara is a beautiful, vivacious character and Mumm-Ra is a mysterious and sometimes frightening villain with a very sinister yet effective voice. The voice acting is superb and fit with the characters wonderfully, especially Earl Hammond as Mumm-Ra.

Overall, a brilliant show, one of the best animated shows of the '80s, maybe even ever. That may be rather rash to say, but it is pretty much my way of saying how wonderful ThunderCats is. 10/10 Bethany Cox

Pure Fantasy
Big Movie Fan17 May 2002
Thundercats was pure fantasy for me when I watched it in the 1980's. Thundercats is the type of cartoon you can watch and it makes you forget your troubles. The world can be a tough place sometimes so it's nice to be able to sit down and watch a bit of escapism, to be able to watch a world where the heroes always beat the bad guys.

I first watched Thundercats in 1985. However, I picked up a couple of videos of it in late 2001 and watched them. I still enjoyed them.

Thundercats was based on Third Earth which had the most beautiful scenery of any cartoon. Lion-O was the leader who was full of courage. He had a team he could depend on-the strong Panthro, the reliable Tygra and the beautiful Cheetara who could run really fast. They helped him in his battle against the evil Mum-Ra (one of the best cartoon baddies ever in my opinion, certainly more evil than Skeletor from He-Man).

The stories were very good like most 1980's stories. My favourite part of each episode was where Lion-O used to call his friends with the aid of the Sword of Omens whenever he was in trouble.

This was a great series with a brilliant theme tune.

30 years after...
orionqark20 April 2018
30 years after i enjoyed Thundercats i decided it is time for my 6 years old daughter to get to know them :) and i was not mistaken, she loves them. I was considering He Man but when i look at that cartoon today, im sorry to say but it looks strange and funky. Thundercats cartoon stlye on other side looks 10x better, even great for todays TV standards (at least for me). That intro - just pure epicness.

I see alot arguing about wich one is better, He Man or Thundercats... for me that question is no brainer really. On show popularity i guess He Man was more popular, but considering marketing behind it - it doesnt suprise me, but popularity doesnt mean it was better.

As for characters and theme...i had He Man toys as kid but when you look at characters and their story/abilities i can feel more connected to Thundercats than He Man and his unlimited power...Thundercats story is (for me) more original and definitly more emotional.

2018 - let your kids today see Thundercats - they will learn more about honor, friendship and whats right or wrong than many other cartoons you can see today.

One of the best and most beloved 80's cartoons for a number of reasons! Warning: Spoilers
I loved a lot of little details about this show when I was a kid. I loved Panthro and Tygra having actual professions, Panthro was an engineer and Tygra was an architect and all Thundercats seemed to have some training in metallurgy. Why? because when you are a child you dream to be alike the characters you like and being an engineer, an architect or some kind of "metals specialist" were actual, long run, achievable goals. This is something (BTW) that they share with another 80's Classic: MASK ; where every chapter they made a selection of experts with different expertise areas according to the profile of each mission.

Another plus point for the Thundercats is that they had a real origins chapter called "Exodus". Most shows (both animated and live action) don't take the time to give a full story that explains so exquisitely how the adventure started in the first place. Also, calling it "Exodus" like one of the most important books of the Bible and the Kabbalah (even when Kabbalists actually call it Shemot), gave a feeling of importance, a feeling that you were about to watch a really fine story.

Are there some things about the Thundercats I didn't like? Well, like many shows I hated that they repeated the same villain over and over. Differently to other fans, for me, the show is 90 percent about the heroes and only 10 or 20 percent about the villains (with some exceptions,of course), and a villain is even less appealing for me if he or she appears too much. Mumm-ra and Lion-0 had many "last battles" and if you ask me they are good in inverse order of appearance; being the actual last battle the less good and the first last battle the best.

All the original characters were great in my opinion: Lion-0, Tygra, Panthro, Cheetara, Wilykit and Wilykat, and even Snarf were all good elements of their group. Talking about the three new Thundercats that we got to know later, I think only Linx-O was good enough to become a Thundercat right away, but Pumyra and Bengali weren't so bad either.

Talking about the story. like any other show, it liked some episodes better than another. I will try to make some specific reviews for some of them one of these days .

Thanks for reading.

Give me sight beyond sight
Keyan-the-Eagle14413 December 2021
I used to rent this show's videos from my local video outlet when I was like 7 or 8 back in the 1990s. I never got bored of it. At one point I lost interest but then when I was 14 I watched it on Cartoon Network's Toonami and it captivated me once again. Of course, like most 1980s shows it hasn't aged well and it deserves a proper reboot sooner or later. The music was the best part and the characters were stunning. Mumm-Ra stole the show as the main villain (I liked him better than Skeletor). Yes, it does share similarities with He-Man but I never really watched the original He-Man.

The show has science and magic, various races, and a world of intriguing settings. What's not to like? And each show has an ending that works like a public service announcement. Morals and such. You don't get that very often in today's shows.

In short, if you're an old-time fan, a visit can be a nice little reunion. Most kids from the current era will find this one a little hokey and cliched, but as before, someone needs to give this show a proper reboot. If TMNT and Transformers can get multiple reboots and alternate universes, then why can't this?

Mumm-Ra vs the Thundercats in a grand never ending swords sorcery and sci-fi struggle of good against evil!!! (And "Snarf-Snarf!")
This will always be my most favourite out of all the classic Saturday morning animated shows of the 1980s, as it was the only one that I ever made that special childhood connection with and took to heart. It must have been right at the tail-end of the 80s when I saw the few episodes on TV that I did, the rest were on dusty old beloved VHS tapes that I picked up over the years. It was definitely enough for it to greatly capture my imagination though, and I was always very thrilled and entertained by the rich and unique world of the show and all it's varied and colourful heroes and villains and I still love and have a special place for it today, it's one of those animated shows that can take me right back. When I eventually got the whole series on DVD I was surprised by how well it held up for me and how much fun I still had watching the many episodes that I never got to see as a kid. I find the style of the show to still be pretty cool and impressive, especially the iconic intro song that always got me all amped-up to watch it! I love how it was set on a planet that could be an alternate version of Earth that's eons into the future, based on how it was named "Third-Earth" as well as how most of the native races are recognisable as humanoid versions of Terran animals. That fantastically strange world had something for just about anybody, it had futuristic technology and robotic races like the bizarre Berbils, who while most fans always seemed to unanimously hate them, I always thought they were cute as weird buttons! They had those things side by side with medieval style villages and magical fairy folk and axe-wielding savages and cyborg pirates and gigantic monsters and ancient demons. It may have been very episodic in nature but not to the downright painful degree that other popular animated shows of the time were, they did try out some story arcs like Lion-O's Anointment and Mumm-Ra Lives, and I enjoyed the vast majority of the episodes, even when things started to get just a little crazy when the Lunataks showed up and the exploded home planet of Thundera began putting itself back together! Some of my favourite episodes are "The Tower of Traps" because it's such an atmospheric little tale and it has a poignant ending, "The Garden of Delights" for the hilarious blatant drug addiction metaphor, "Mongor" because a demonic purple goatman who feeds on the power of dear is awesome, "The Book of Omens" as it's the only time Mumm-Ra asks Lion-O to save him, and "Shadowmaster" for it's the only time that Mumm-Ra secretly helps out the Thundercats, if only for his own benefit! The Wildstorm comic books beautifully carried on the story after the series ended and I'd highly recommend them if you're a fan of the show. It had its moralistic themes but they weren't mercilessly preachy and rubbed in your face all the time. I loved how the Thundercats could get their hands dirty and fight if they had to, but were fundamentally peaceful beings, their idealism and innocent outlook and diplomatic attitude was something good and positive for little kids to be watching. I think the animation is fine enough, to me it also holds up just fine, it has a certain look and style to it. In some sequences it looks to be inspired by Japanese anime. And now on to my favourite animated villain of all time. Poor Mumm-Ra during the intro, screaming in insane frustration at being eternally thwarted and foiled in his evil schemes! I love that crazy old demon mummy, he was always so much fun to watch, and he was pretty scary too with his corpse-like blue skin, red eyes, sharp teeth and infectiously demented laughter! The way he looked and sounded, coupled with the macabre visuals of his black pyramid lair was almost chilling. He was so evil yet absurdly lovable too that I sometimes wanted him to win! No matter what the Thundercats did to banish him he always came back, even if he and his whole pyramid were completely destroyed the Ancient Spirits of Evil could just bring it all back out of nothing, and thanks to his sarcophagus time was certainly on his side... And what an amazing trademark insane laugh Earl Hammond had, the man did a truly phenomenal voice acting job as the bandaged ranting fiend that still puts most animated villains to shame to this very day, how he man erode his voice-box while cranking out those booming commands and hoarse roaring cackles at such incredible pitches is beyond me! It was truly one of the all time great voice performances, let nobody ever dare to forget the magnificence of the mighty Mumm-Ra!!! He was possibly the most memorable thing about the show, hell one could even say that he made the show. I never even got tired of seeing his transformation sequence in practically every single episode where he was freakishly beefed-up and had his power level greatly increased and had a much cooler design yet was strangely never all that more effective in his evil ways, it was so epic! This to me is a timelessly wonderful series that I still love to revisit every once in a while for old time's sake. I mean yeah it was a product of its time but Thundercats was still a very great and special show that stood out from the rest, it was one of a kind and still is. I don't think they'll ever be its like again. My thanks to everyone involved who pulled such a terrific and legendary animated series together. Too awesome to be forgotten. I can still feel that Thunder!!! x

Interesting enough show, kept me entertained as a child.
Aaron137521 February 2009
This show followed the exploits of the Thundercats, a race of human cat people whose planet was destroyed so they were forced to relocate to another planet. Their future leader, Liono is but a child when they leave their planet, but thanks to a pod malfunction he ages to an adult while the others in the group essentially stay the same age. He is given the sword of omens and a cat claw and they start a new life on a planet filled with many perils including mutant men, pirates, and the evil creature Mummra. The cartoon was a pretty action packed, the dialog at times was corny and as the show progressed it got weaker, but that is really a lot of cartoon shows at the time. I have to admit, of all the cartoons there were this was probably the easiest one to collect all the toys for as they really did not add to many characters to the show as it went along. You basically had Liono, Panthro, Cheetara, the tiger dude (can't remember his name), Snarf and the two kid ones. The villains consisted of about three mutants, Mummra and a group of pirates that really did not have all that many episodes. There were another set of super berserker warriors and two or three more Thundercats introduced in later episodes, but I do not ever recall seeing them as toys. So all in all a good show, with the one story arc of Liono having to past these tests facing the other Thundercats as one of the highlight multiple part stories.

Thundercats was and still is an excellent cartoon series.
tom_avenger_2013 February 2007
Some of the best things about Thundercats were the obvious battles between good and evil and the blend of the different genres like Science Fiction,Fantasy,Action,Myth,Magic, etc and of course such memorable and extremely well written episodes. My favourite episodes from the first half of Season 1 are:

Exodus: The origin episode,if you will.

The Unholy Alliance: The Mutants crash land on Third Earth and join forces with Mumm Ra.

Berbils: The first appearance of these robot/bear soon to be allies of the Thundercats and this episode is where Panthro builds the Thundertank too.

The Slaves Of Castle Plundaar: The Thundercats free a docile race of aliens known as Brutemen from the clutches of Slithe,Monkian and Jackalman.

Pumm Ra: This is an episode where Mumm Ra infiltrates the Thundercats Cats Lair and causes mayhem.

The Ghost Warrior: basically a Jaga VS Grune The Destroyer episode.

The Doomgaze: a good Mumm Ra episode.

The Spaceship Beneath The Sands: The Mutants combat the Thundercats with their own weaponry to no avail.

All That Glitters: Mumm Ra tricks Lion O and Tygra into fighting each other and The Sword Of Omens becomes shattered,so Lion O must get the Inflamer,a mercenary to reforge it for him.

Snarf Takes Up The Challenge: All the Thundercats except Snarf are captured by the Mutants and are held in Mumm Ra's pyramid,so it is up to Snarf to save them.

The problem with cartoons nowadays is they just are not interesting anymore and do not really have any morals to teach kids. Thundercats did just that and of course other great cartoons from the 1980's such as He-Man & The Masters Of The Universe,She-Ra and Transformers which all spawned toy lines and comic books like Thundercats did also.

Among the 1980's Finest

...Yeah everything from the theme tune to the show itself was pretty damn cool all round! The movie was amazing aswell... much better than the Pokemon movies could ever come up with!

You know it upsets me when I see what animators are coming up with now, it's no wonder than 80's cartoons are back in fashion because all this cyber/Pokemon/3-D Animation rubbish is just awful! Give me Thundercats, He-Man, Real Ghostbusters, Inspector Gadget, Danger Mouse any day!

The only bad thing about Thundercats was the Ed McMahon style HO!!!! they put onto the name... It dated in a horrendous way!

Lion-O you were the man! I bet most red headed people look up to you as their god!

Thundercats Was One of The Best 80s Cartoons Around
wchngliu2 July 2007
Thundercats was the so-called arch rival to He-man: Masters of the Universe. And yet I loved this more than He-man. The cartoon was a mixture of fantasy, sci-fi, action-adventure with a bit of humour thrown in as well. The Thundercats were made up of leader, the young but fearless Lion-O, who wielded the Sword of Omens and his compatriots, Tigra, Cheetara, Panthro and Wily Kit and Wily Kat, not to mention the lovable Snarf. Together they battled against the evil Mum-ra, of whom was the more convincing baddie, in stark contrast to Skeletor from He-man.

Thundercats deserves full marks for being original and for having the most inventive-yet interesting characters. The animation may have been a little dodgy at times, but design-wise, they were well drawn and created. The dialogue was at times a little corny to say the least but the show also had episodes where basic morals, values and ethics were highlighted and addressed within the series.

This was a great TV show to watch with an equally memorable theme tune to boot! Thundercats, ho!!

Opinion from the former USSR
sashafromdonetsk29 March 2010
Opinion from the former USSR. My childhood has coincided with our Reorganization and disintegration of the USSR and then at us information freedom, which was not in the USSR, has begun, and has appeared a lot of western, especially American, films, cartoon films, music. I saw very many, much was pleasant to me were a favorite "Ninza Turtles", and from "ThunderCats" I then saw only one episode (about huge spiders), but they have sunk down to me in soul and later 20 years they (ThunderCats) is my favorite cartoon serial from serious (and from comic - "The Pink Panther") and I now try to extract a full serial on disks in the original (without a translation into Russian).

Unholy alliance flaw
luckygaskey18 July 2006
Just a quick note for those who haven't caught it already, the Unholy alliance episode is totally missing all the background music. I was doing a little hunting around and everything I've run across talks about replacement discs being available but I haven't found anything yet. If anybody out there has any info on this I'd appreciate it as I'm sure everybody else will, otherwise I'll update this myself if anything comes to light. It seems like too many companies are getting in that rush to deliver these releases and they never bother to spend the time double checking the final product. I've had three individual titles that I've had to send back to Warner Bros. alone just trying to get a product that delivers the way it should. Usual story Quantity over quality.

The best animated series from one of my favorite animation studios, Rankin/Bass
ja_kitty_7111 June 2009
Like I had said many times, I was shocked, surprised, and flabbergasted by the negativity I heard on Keyframe.com. I've watched this show, and frankly, I find it awesome! Based on characters created by Tobin "Ted" Wolf, the series is set in the far future (I don't know how far) and follows the adventures of a team of heroes: cat-like humanoid aliens from a planet called Thundera.

The series starts with the dying Thundera meeting its end, forcing the ThunderCats (similar to Thunderean nobility) to flee their homeworld. The ThunderCats' young Lord, Lion-O, and his elderly guardian Jaga, as well as the ThunderCats Cheetara, Panthro, Tygra, the ThunderKittens WilyKit and WilyKat, and Snarf, are aboard the flagship. The fleet was soon attacked by their enemies, the Mutants from the planet Plun-Darr, who destroyed all of the starships in the "ThunderFleet" but spared the flagship in the hopes of capturing the mythical Sword of Omens, which they believe is onboard. The sword has the mythical Eye of Thundera, the source of the ThunderCats' power, lodged in the hilt. Even though the Mutants cause damage to the flagship, the force of the Eye drives them away, and Jaga pilots the ship to the safety of "Third Earth." However, he dies in the process because there are insufficient cryo-stasis pods aboard the ship, and travel to Third Earth takes many decades, even with advanced interstellar spaceships. When the ThunderCats arrived on Third Earth, they made friends with many creatures and built a castle. Mumm-Ra, the centuries-old embodiment of evil, and the mutants who destroyed the rest of the Thunderans, however, remain a persistent threat. But Lion-O, the ThunderCats' new commander and now a grown man owing to a failure in his cryo-stasis pod, will wield the Sword of Omens to give the ThunderCats a fighting chance in their newfound home.

Cheetara, Tygra, the ThunderKittens WilyKit and WilyKat, and Snarf-oh, and Snarfer as well. So all I could say is that this is one of the best animated series from one of my favorite animation studios, Rankin/Bass, with plenty of fantasy, adventure, humour, and beautiful animation. And one thing: anyone who watched the episode "Dimension Doom" will notice that near the end, Cheetara and Wizz-Ra took a moment to have a sentimental farewell. Anyone thinking of doing some fanship with them? I might.

Memorable
Simon_J_Rodgers14 August 2012
I wasn't really into this cartoon when I was very young, but it was certainly all the rage with a lot of other children, including my brother.

The animation and plots were quite good and worth remembering. It all seems like it was yesterday just thinking about it I wasn't that old when it first started either. This makes me feel so old.

It's no wonder that some episodes have been released onto DVD, about 20 years after their initial airing.

A few repeats on TV wouldn't go amiss I suppose? For me it would be for nostalgic interest only though. However I do understand that for other viewers it would be for so much more.

Thundercats....20 years later
aliceanne823 February 2007
Like all Thundercats fans I really loved this cartoon!! So much so, that 20 yrs since watching an episode when I saw the whole series on DVD for sale online I decided to order it. I was so excited when I received my package that I thought I'd have a Thundercats marathon with my older sister (who also loved it) about halfway through the first disc (there's about 14 discs all up) I couldn't remember why I loved this cartoon so much? Don't get me wrong, it was exactly how I remembered it but something was missing? Probably the fact that there was absolutely no opportunity of me ever becoming a Thundercat or cruising around 3rd Earth in the Thundertank, I guess it lost all of it's appeal. Oh and Liono, Lord of the Thundercats really annoyed me, he was more like Liono, Lord of stating the obvious! I guess when you're older you pick up their silly mistakes, such as when they introduced new characters (such as bengaly and pumara) the old characters (such as cheetara & tigra) disappeared off the face of 3rd earth. It wasn't a total waste of money though, I have a younger brother and sister who were born after the Thundercat era and have grown up on the "new" 3d cartoons (that have absolutely no morals or lesson to be learned) so seeing them watch the series was OK I guess!

Why this is one of my all time favorite shows.
thehuman-228 July 2016
It's extremely flawed and corny. granted. The story lines are mostly weak, even to a point of in-coherency and complete absurdity, granted. There are no exceptional depths of characters, granted.

However, this is a masterpiece if you know how to experience it as such.

To me, I find it compelling, mostly in terms of the biblically epic soundtrack for the most part, and the animation.

If you try to not render too much meaning to this journey as a storytelling, but more as a thematic soundtrack experience that manifests itself in certain situations and scenarios that you can easily relate to, then this experience would leave its mark on you in the most profound way, as it has on me ever since I've first experienced it as a 6 year old, and still in awe to it now as I'm already in my early thirties. one can't simply deny the way it reflects the mood and general ambiance in such a remarkable way, and still for the most part include the lite motif of the theme song in it without diminishing the mental traits of every track respectively. Secondly - I loved the animation, and the characters, although quite depth-less were very memorable and had a lot of gravitas in the ways they expressed and handled themselves.

To conclude, the real mastermind behind the success of the Thundercats is no other than Bernard Hoffer, who granted us one of the best soundtracks in the history of film and television, and I want to thank him personally for this amazing and one of the most memorable experiences in my life.

They don't make bad guys like HIM anymore
firefrost7927 September 2001
Be honest - when was the last time in recent years you saw ANY villain in a cartoon series who put the breeze up your kilt like Mumm-Ra used to? That 9' frame, those sinister trailing red-and-black bandages and of course a voice like bubbling tar and grated glass. Even now, hearing that terrifying 'HHRRRRAAAAAAA!!!' that he bellowed in the opening credits still sends a shudder down my spine. And whats it up against? Let me think... umm - NOTHING. EVER. DVD!! DVD, again I say!!! Show the next generation that cel villains CAN be scary!

Definitely a fave

One of my favorite cartoons as a kid, behind He-Man. And like, He-Man, they tried to remake Thundercats and failed, miserably. You can't beat this one! All the characters are awesome, even snarf. Even though, from what I remember, was so whiny!

And like other 80s cartoons and shows - they all got movies (or they tried to make movies but this one never got one! Especially now with all the movie magic tech that's around, I think a Thundercats movie would be phenomenal!

I would probably buy the DVD without even seeing a trailer! A real life Lion-O would be so great to see, I think! As well all the other characters, obviously! MOVIE PRODUCERS - GET CRACKIN!!

As someone who didn't grow up with this show I can still appreciate its influence and craft.

One of a number of action orientated shows to come out of the 80s, Thundercats certainly made an impression to stand out from the rest of the crowd. Following a group of cat-like aliens collectively known as the Thundercats, the show follows their exploits on their adoptive planet of Third Earth after their home planet of Thundera is destroyed. The focus of the Group is Lion-O who becomes leader of the Thundercats after the previous leader Jaga sacrifices himself succumbing to old age so the rest can arrive on Third Earth in stasis.

The show is a fun mixture of space opera, sword and sorcery, as well as sword and planet tropes that make for a very entertaining show. It also has an appreciably diverse set of characters who each bring something unique to the story. The show also has a fun selection of villains and obstacles for our heroes to fight against with Mumm-Ra easily being the best with his gravelly voice and two designs that are both equally imposing.

What elevates the show from being good to great is its technical craft. The animation produced by Pacific Animation Corporation(Topcraft in Season 1) is heavily influenced by Japanese animation in its character designs and animation style and gives the show a unique visual style that carried quite a bit of influence even into the 90s. With the animation on this show it's clear why Disney acquired them in the late 80s to work on many a Disney afternoon show including Talespin, Rescue Rangers, and cult favorite Gargoyles.

The show is not flawless however. Sometimes the villains can be a little lacking(with the Plun-Darr mutants serving more as annoyances to our heroes than legitimate threats, but this adds to their charm and makes them somewhat endearing), and the fact that the show only had six voice actors providing voices for the entirety of the shows cast can sometimes result in characters sounding similar to others(especially female characters as they're all done by the same female voice over artist). The show also goes a bit overboard with its comic relief character Snarf who tries to serve as a Jiminy Cricket type character who warns Lion-O of potentially reckless actions, but his grating voice and whininess make him a chore to sit through(though luckily he is used sparingly)

Despite not having a nostalgic attachment to this show, it can still be appreciated for its creativity and influence and its successors in the same category. There is a lack of polish in comparison to later era cartoons, but this helps give the show a unique identity and still makes it worth watching not only for curiosity's sake but as a milestone in TV animation alongside such staples as Jonny Quest.

Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats HO

One of the greatest battle calls in history Whenever you heard the the famous "Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats HO"! You know you were in Thundercats.

Easily one of the greatest cartoons of the 1980s but also ever. Yes I grew up as a fan of Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles but I still am a fan of Thundercats.

The series characters are still praised to this day with such as Lion-O, Cheetara, Tygra, Panthro as the group known as the Thundercats.

The series main antagonist remains one of the most powerful villains to this day. Mumm-Ra The Ever Living! He is an powerful foe and it is easy why he is among top favorite villains when you watch the show.

The Series animation style is very well done as it is like in the 80s, The voice acting is very strong as well as each actor did a successful job bringing them to life.

The Music is very well done as it helps move the series along with each scene. Also the theme song and intro is a classic as it's theme gets you pumps up for each episode. The theme is awesome.

Thundercats remains one of my favorite shows and it not to be miss by those who love the classics.

Thunder Thunder Thunder Thundercats HO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
