Good Luck Charlie‘s titular rugrat revealed herself to be all grown up — because that is how aging works, after all — in a delightful surprise reunion with her TV dad.
Airing for four seasons from April 2010 to February 2014 (and a favorite of the Mitovich twins), Disney Channel’s Good Luck Charlie in large part revolved around Teddy (played by Bridgit Mendler), the second-oldest child in the Duncan clan. Worried that she will be at college and not around much when her toddler sister grows up, Teddy recorded video diaries for Charlie, ending each imparting of wisdom with [see title of TV series].

Law & Order: Organized Crime‘s search for a Season 4 showrunner is dun-done.
Organized Crime — led by Christopher Meloni, reprising his Svu role as Elliot Stabler — premiered in April 2021, and had already cycled through five showrunners. Original series boss Matt Olmstead was replaced by Ilene Chaiken before the spinoff made it to air, while Chaiken was replaced by Barry O’Brien midway through Season 2. O’Brien was succeeded by Bryan Goluboff, who lasted three months, before Sean Jablonski was appointed showrunner No. 4.

Does Netflix have some sort of stealth ownership stake in Planet Hollywood?
Just a couple of months after giving Arnold Schwarzenegger a three-hour puff piece documentary, the streaming giant is set to release Thom Zimny’s feature-length Sly, a documentary in which Sylvester Stallone is exactly as candid and introspective as executive producer Sylvester Stallone wants him to be.
With Schwarzenegger, the documentary had the feeling of a quid pro quo to accompany the former California governor’s series Fubar, but Stallone’s current television series Tulsa King is on a different service and isn’t so much as mentioned in Sly. It doesn’t need to be. It’s not as if, in the big picture, Tulsa King has cemented its place as a key piece of Stallone’s resumé, but it’s just one of many little and not-so-little parts of his career and life that don’t come up in Sly.

The bread and butter of film festivals is the unveiling of new movies. And in the case of the major festivals taking place in the late summer and early fall — Venice, Telluride, Toronto and New York — the selections offer a preview of potential Oscar nominees and winners. Remember the eight-minute standing ovation Brendan Fraser received last year at Venice for “The Whale”? It kicked off his comeback and journey to a best Oscar win this year.
And with the 50th annual Telluride Film Festival kicking off August 31 at in the picturesque Colorado mountain burg, let’s take the cinematic time machine back 1993 when the fest was a mere 20 years old. John Boorman of “Deliverance” and “Hope and Glory” fame was the guest director of the festival. Jennifer Jason Leigh, then just 31 and whose latest film was Robert Altman’s “Short Cuts,” was honored with a tribute as was socialist British director Ken Loach,...

Pairing wine with movies! See the trailers and hear the fascinating commentary for these movies, and many more, at Trailers From Hell. This week, we salute the recently departed actor Sidney Poitier.
I opened the door to my home and heard my wife crying. Out loud. As she is not one who finds herself openly weeping all that often, I was concerned. With tears streaming down her face she said, “Sidney Poitier died.” She did not know him personally, had never met him, but, for her, it was as if a close relative had been struck down. Browsing through social media posts, it is apparent that many feel that way. My wife has met a number of celebrities during her time in Los Angeles, but never Poitier. That will always live within her on the minus side of her life’s ledger.

The stakes of the original 1996 “Space Jam” were always silly: To keep the beloved Looney Tunes out of the clutches of an uninspired alien businessman who wanted to use their visage to trump up his failing amusement park, the tribe enlisted Michael Jordan to play a space-set basketball game to earn their freedom. That concept is strange enough (though not strange enough to keep the film from making over $250 million at the box office and capturing the hearts and minds of an entire generation of kids); even stranger was that this blatantly commercial film was about the dangers of, well, commercialization. Free the Tunes from a life of corporate servitude by sticking them inside a ridiculous blockbuster designed to sell merchandise for a major entertainment conglomerate and one of the biggest sports franchises in the world? Oh, the irony.

The following equation recently appeared on a standardized math test for third graders, thanks to the Common Core State Standards Initiative:
American Idol selected 48 Season 14 contestants to perform at a showcase at Los Angeles’ House of Blues — with the goal of having its three judges (and a team of no fewer than 37 producers) whittle the field down to 24 vocalists who’ll compete for the public vote. If the final roster of contestants must be split evenly by gender — and 12 hopefuls were shown advancing on Wednesday night’s telecast, then who’s likeliest to advance in the night’s final battle:...
