Thursday night marked Billy Joel’s 100th concert in his soon-ending Madison Square Garden residency, and to mark the occasion, Jerry Seinfeld came onstage to honor the Piano Man.
Calling the long-running Msg residency “a beautiful medallion on this career that he’s had,” Seinfeld talked about their shared roots on Long Island and what his music means to people hailing from the area.
“There’s three things that make Billy a genius of music: The voice, the music, the writing of the most beautiful songs,” Seinfeld told the sold-out crowd.

Billy Joel and Sting celebrated the first of their co-headlining tour dates in Tampa Bay by covering each other’s songs: Joel joined Sting to perform The Police’s “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” and Sting accompanied Joel for a rendition of “Big Man on Mulberry Street.”
Sting took the stage first at Raymond James Stadium on Saturday night, and Billy Joel introduced his longtime pal by proclaiming, “I saw this guy when he came with his band to the States, and I was blown away. This was the late ’70s. I thought he was great then, and I think he’s great now. He’s one of my favorite musicians of all time.”
Joel stayed on stage to perform The Police classic, and Sting returned halfway through Joel’s set to duet “Big Man on Mulberry Street” with him. Watch clips of both performances below.

Justin Timberlake is a big tease.
The singer appeared at a show billed as “One Night Only” in his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee Friday night. The occasion was to showcase his new song, Selfish, and his forthcoming album, Everything I Thought It Was.
The Selfish song marks his first new music as a solo artist in six years. Timberlake shared a short clip of the ballad in a video, which included snippets from rehearsals of his intimate gig at The Orpheum in Memphis.
Another clip showed Timberlake holding a hat that read, “What’s better than having everything that you dreamed of?”
Timberlake previously shared a video teaser earlier on Friday for his forthcoming album, with Benicio Del Toro narrating.
In another post shared on Friday, Timberlake confirmed that he will be appearing on Saturday Night Live Jan. 27, with Dakota Johnson hosting.

The Groundlings will host an improv musical fundraising event on Oct. 26, featuring Ana Gasteyer, Kristen Bell, Kristen Wiig and Will Forte. The event, held at the Performing Arts Center at Vista Del Mar, will benefit the Motion Picture & Television Fund to support below-the-line workers impacted by the strikes.
“One Night Only,” created and directed by Groundlings Main Company member Andrew Leeds, is a full production of a well-known Broadway musical. The catch? The improvisers are given the script and their roles only 24 hours in advance.
“These strikes have taken a terrible toll on our amazing crews, and it isn’t over yet. Even with the WGA strike ending, most crew members won’t be able to start work again until the SAG-AFTRA deal is ratified,” Leeds said in a statement. “Even then, many will be fighting to survive as they wait for productions to start back up.

Maren Morris is “taking an axe to the tree” that is rotting at the root — a metaphor in her new song “The Tree” about country music’s deep-rooted issues to grow with the times.
The singer, 33, dubs her new two-track EP The Bridge — released today — one of numerous metaphors she uses to imagine a path out of the country music industry, which made her a star.
“I thought I’d like to burn it to the ground and start over. But it’s burning itself down without my help.”
On “The Tree”, Morris sings, “I’m done filling a cup with a hole in the bottom”; while “Get the Hell Out of Here” begins with the lyrics, “Watered the garden but forgot to fill the well/ I fed all my good intentions while I starved myself.”

With the Venice Film Festival kicking off its 80th edition this week, the star power may be diminished this year due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike, but there are still a host of famed faces turning up on the Lido and at parties around the city. George and Amal Clooney were among the names who turned out for Diane Von Furstenberg’s Dvf Awards — Amal Clooney wore a vintage Christian Dior slip dress with Cartier jewelry — while Adam Driver hit the red carpet for his movie Ferrari on Aug. 31. Even more stars hit the town to attend Giorgio Armani’s “One Night Only” haute-couture celebration on Saturday, Sept. 2, and the amFAR Venezia gala on Sept. 3 sponsored by Chopard.

Showtime’s Personality Crisis: One Night Only may showcase a multi-hyphenated personality – David Johansen is a band member, solo artist, and a songwriter who composed the show’s tunes for his own alter ego, Buster Poindexter – but there is no crisis. Co-directors Martin Scorsese and David Tedeschi are documenting a party, Johansen’s 70th birthday in January 2020, which he spent at the Café Carlyle.
Martin Scorsese knows how to set a table, serving up Thanksgiving dinner along with The Band for their farewell performance in The Last Waltz at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom. But the fancy venue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side is an intimate space with just enough room for Johansen’s special friends, and he only has to take an elevator to put in an appearance. Personality Crisis: One Night Only, the Showtime documentary on David Johansen which was co-directed by Martin Scorsese and David Tedeschi, made its world premiere at The New York Film Festival, the same venue Scorsese’s Mean Streets debuted in 1973. That was the same year The New York Dolls’ first album came out.
During the Q&a which followed the screening, Scorsese said he would play the Dolls’ music to the actors before shooting scenes in Mean Streets. “I heard this song, ‘Personality Crisis,’ the rhythm and blues roots, the energy of it, the sense of humor, particularly when he sings ‘yeah, yeah, yeah’ and the band answers ‘no, no, no,’ it’s no game, we’re in,” Scorsese remembered from the panel. “I had played it for the guys, and I showed them the album cover and they said ‘what is this?’ It generated the energy of the whole movie.

In competition shows like American Idol and America’s Got Talent, contestants audition to hear “yes” or “no” from the judges. The Voice works a little differently. Instead of a vote, the coaches who are interested in a contestant will turn their chairs around. The artist then gets to pick their coach if more than one person turns. Only a handful of artists each season manage to turn all four chairs on The Voice. Many artists with four-chair turns, like Girl Named Tom, even go on to win. So, let’s take a look at the artists who turned four chairs on The Voice Season 23.
Noivas received four chair turns on ‘The Voice’ Season 23. | Casey Durkin/NBC Team Blake’s 4-chair turns on ‘The Voice’ Season 23
Blake Shelton has seen many four-chair turns in his 12 years on The Voice. In his final season, however, he has just one on his team: Neil Salsich.

Tuesday’s conclusion of The Voice’s Season 23 Blind Auditions not only introduced four more promising contestants, it raised a question: Wth had Alyssa Lazar done to wind up performing the only tryout to be abbreviated to near nothingness?
Over the five episodes that made up the Blinds, the show found time for a Jimmy Fallon gag. It found time to remind us a zillion times over that this is Blake Shelton’s last visit to the rodeo. It found time to give Chance the Rapper a gimmick and pass down the finger-point schtick from Blake to “son” Niall Horan.

At the end of an epic two-hour, two-episode season premiere of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 15 on January 6, Seattle-based queen Irene Dubois was given the chop with the season’s first “sashay away” from RuPaul Charles. She went head-to-head against Amethyst in the Lip Sync for Your Life to guest judge Ariana Grande‘s song “7 Rings,” but lost out in her last chance to save herself from elimination. Do you think Irene was the right queen picked for elimination in the season premiere? Vote in our poll below to tell us if the judges made the right choice.
Irene fell into the bottom based on a talent performance that missed the mark for the judges. Irene decided to instruct the room on an ice water recipe that she explained is a bit she’s performed before, but with a longer run time. She admitted to the judges that she could have...

When you talk about award shows, you have to talk about campaigning, by which artists are able to get their material out there in hopes that voters become more familiar with them and their craft. This year a few methods, both new and old, stand out as great ways of getting on the radar during Grammy season.
SEEGrammys flashback: Clash of the ’90s titans when Alanis Morissette beat Mariah Carey “Tiny Desk Concert”
NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concert” remains the best campaigning method right now. The intimate online series provides artists an opportunity to showcase their talent in a more intimate setting where their musicianship can be more easily appreciated. The series especially appeals to musicians, which is obviously more effective when it comes to Grammy campaigning since the Recording Academy is made up of industry professionals, and it has helped many surprise nominees like Anderson .Paak in 2016 and Jacob Collier...

Adele has expressed her gratitude after winning her first Emmy Award on Sunday (4 September), and made a joke about being close to the coveted “Egot” status.
The British artist was awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) for Adele: One Night Only, her acclaimed TV performance filmed at the Griffith Observatory, which aired last November.
Classed as a television movie, the special saw the singer perform songs from her most recent album, 30, as well as other familiar tracks from earlier in her career.
The event also involved a couple getting engaged in front of a crowd that included celebrity guests such as Lizzo, Leonardo DiCaprio, Selena Gomez and James Corden.
Though Adele wasn’t present at the awards ceremony, she received her statuette later that day at home.
She shared her happiness about the achievement with a post on social media.

Music superstars Adele, Eminem, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are nearing Egot, now just a notch away. All four of them won Emmy Awards on Saturday at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony in downtown Los Angeles.

Tonight, Adele won the Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) Emmy for her CBS special, “One Night Only.” She is now just one little Tony award away from joining the illustrious Egot club.
Egot stands for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony and only 17 people can claim the status, including recent new member Jennifer Hudson, who won a Tony for producing the musical “A Strange Loop” in June. Adele has collected multiple Grammys over the years and in 2013, she won the Oscar for Best Original Song for “Skyfall.”
“One Night Only,” a concert filmed at L.A.’s Griffith Observatory, marked Adele’s first live performance in six years. She debuted tracks from her latest album, “30,” and sang many of her biggest hits, from “Rolling in the Deep” to “Someone Like You.” In the middle of the show, she helped a fan pull of a surprise marriage proposal, quipping “Thank god she said yes!

Adele is one step closer to achieving Egot status after winning the Emmy Award for outstanding variety special (pre-recorded) for her CBS special, “One Night Only.”
With multiple Grammy Awards under her belt and an Academy Award for best original song, the singer and songwriter only needs a Tony Award to achieve the elusive Egot. It is a title given to artists who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.
The special aired last November and included a new sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey. It was billed as her “first televised wide-ranging conversation about her new album ’30,’ the stories behind the songs, life after divorce, weight loss and raising her son.”
On divorce and family, she told Winfrey, “I was just so disappointed for my son. I was so disappointed for myself, and I thought I was gonna be the one that stopped doing those bloody patterns all the time.
