One thing that’s already making sense when it comes to the upcoming Garbage Pail Kids that’s coming to HBO Max is that it’s been announced that it will be geared more towards adults, which is nice to hear considering that those of us who were so into Gpk back in the 80s are now adults that would love to see the dirtier version of this idea come to light. Right now there’s no set release date, but the idea is that the animated show could arrive in late 2021, but is more likely to be seen in early 2022. This

The Garbage Pail Kids will go from trading card to screen in an animated series in the works at HBO Max.
From co-creators and writers Danny McBride, David Gordon Green and Josh Bycel, the series is inspired by McBride and Green’s affinity for Garbage Pail Kids and Saturday morning cartoons. The animated program is set to be family-friendly for an audience of all ages.
The Topps Company created Garbage Pail Kids in 1985. The gross-out humor and subversive attitude of Garbage Pail Kids became a worldwide phenomenon that recently celebrated its 35th anniversary while remaining an integral part of a retro revival of all things 80’s.
Tornante TV’s Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen will Executive Produce alongside Rough House’s Brandon James (The Righteous Gemstones) along with McBride, Green, and Bycel.

Fancy some horror? We've been taking a look at the discs of Ghoulies, The Burning, Psychomania and more...
“Have you ever heard a frog scream?”, the tag-line to George McCowan’s 1972 ecological horror Frogs (out now on Arrow Blu-ray) should have read. Indeed, for any of you readers that have ever been rudely awoken at 2am by the sound of a traumatised frog being gifted to you by your pet cat/furry psychopath, an amphibian cry of terror is probably the second worst sound there is (behind, of course, Kaiser Chiefs).

What kind of crazy world do we live in where the trailer for Fifty Shades Darker is viewed more than the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens in a 24 hour period?! According to THR, the Fifty Shades Darker trailer was viewed 114 million times. The Force Awakens was viewed 112 million times. This baffles me to no end.
Did you see Fifty Shades of Grey? If you didn't you can just watch the Honest Trailer for it below. That's really all you need to see. The movie was absolutely terrible in every way, shape, and form. It was a laughable film with some of the most juvenile dialogue I've ever heard in a movie. The Garbage Pail Kids movie had a better script. The Fifty Shades Darker trailer was just as laughable. Maybe that's why so many people watched it?
I just can't wrap my brain around how anyone who saw...

Usually when I think of movies which deserve the “Collector’s Edition” treatment, Garbage Pail Kids does not come to mind. But Scream Factory did it anyway, so here we are. I haven’t seen this movie since I was pretty young. I didn’t like it, and it really holds no sentimental value for me at all. I remember it being way slimier and gross that it actually is, and honestly I think, viewing it as an old-ass man, I may like it even less than I did back then. That’s not to say that it doesn’t deserve to be on my shelf with all of Scream Factory’s other excellent Collector’s Edition Blu-rays, but among those films, it probably ranks near the bottom.
So, what’s so terrible about the movie itself? Practically everything. The story is an incoherent ripoff of several popular kid-related fantasy...

Every so often, a film gets made that is so singularly baffling, so misguided and so wrongheaded that it is a kind of terrible miracle—something that should not be and yet is. The Garbage Pail Kids Movie is exactly that kind of film.
On paper, it makes sense: a studio sees the success of the wildly popular line of Topps trading cards during the mid-’80s and determines a movie is there. The rights were snatched up by the Atlantic Entertainment Group and co-writer/director Rod Amateau was hired to bring the Garbage Pail Kids to the screen. Legendary effects man and sometimes director John Carl Buechler designed animatronic heads to be worn by little people actors and about $1 million was spent to make what would become The Garbage Pail Kids Movie, now widely regarded as one of the worst movies ever made. It’s now available in high-def...

The Movie Doctors is more than Wittertainment jumping from the airwaves to the printed page. Here's our review...
How do you write a review about The Movie Doctors, by Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode? Well, you just…, ah I suspect many of you got there first.
And if you did, this is your book. A fascinating, broad and beautifully presented collection of arguments, articles, diagrams and disputes that leap from the airwaves of Wittertainment (aka The Kermode & Mayo Film Review on Radio 5 Live/Radio Five/Five Live/we keep forgetting what they're officially called these days) and onto the printed page, there’s plenty that others could learn from this.
For in an era where books for fans of things have a habit of taking that audience for granted, that’s absolutely what The Movie Doctors doesn’t do. Running to over 300 pages, and with sky-high production values,...

Want to know Michael Eisner's new plan for a box office hit? The former CEO of Disney plans to make a movie based on disgusting collectible cards that were popular 25 years ago. How can his plan go wrong?
According to Deadline, Eisner's Tornante Company is developing a feature-length movie based on the Garbage Pail Kids trading cards. Created by Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Art Spiegelman, the Topps trading cards featured images of Cabbage Patch Kid faces on otherwise horribly disfigured children. The cards were extremely popular with kids in the mid-1980s, and a creepy feature, The Garbage Pail Kids Movie, was made in 1987; it made a whopping $1.5 Million in Us theaters. Apparently, the time seems ripe for a Garbage Pail Kids reboot, with collections of cards currently selling for literally dozens of dollars on eBay.
It seems that Eisner, who owns Topps, is hoping the movie will create a new generation of Gpk lovers.

Seeing as 1987’s The Garbage Pail Kids Movie is widely considered one of the weirdest and worst movie adaptations of all time, you might think that ever getting another live action film about gross little doll-like kids who mutilate themselves would be too much of a long shot to actually happen. But, in thinking this, you would be giving Hollywood too much credit. The Garbage Pail Kids are something that people vaguely remember from the 80s, and Transformers proved that something people vaguely remember from the 80s could theoretically translate to box office dollars, so we’re all going to get another chance to spend time with beloved characters like Greaser Greg and Valerie Vomit. Those whose history doesn’t go as far back as the 80s might be wondering what the heck The Garbage Pail Kids are. Well, they were a series of trading cards launched back in 1985 that parodied the Cabbage Patch Kids phenomenon of...

The Garbage Pail Kids are returning to the big screen. Deadline has word that Pes, an artist best known for his short films, will direct an all-new feature-length adaptation through The Tornante Company. Relative newcomer Michael Vukadinovich will provide the screenplay.
First released by the Topps Company in 1985, Garbage Pail Kids were a series of trading card stickers that, parodying the popular line of "Cabbage Patch Kids" dolls, offered gross-out character designs based on simple puns.
Turned into a film in 1987, the original The Garbage Pail Kids Movie was directed by Rod Amateau and featured dwarf actors in puppet costumes as the Garbage Pail kids themselves. There's no word on what approach Pes will be taking, but his below film, "Fresh Guacamole", offers a solid example of what he's been working on recently...

If you go back in time to the late 80’s there was an absolutely brutal movie called The Garbage Pail Kids Movie, based on, what no doubt some of you collected, the stickers and the gum. Now, and if you’re waiting on something to send you over the edge, this is it. Another Garbage Pail Kids movie is currently in development, funded and produced by The Tornante Company, which is owned by Michael Eisner. Obviously Eisner and co see a market for this drivel and no doubt the movie will come with a whole host of merchandising including stickers and that god awful chewing gum. Somethings are better off left alone, and in my book, this is it!

Just when you thought that Hollywood's obsession with '80s nostalgia couldn't get any worse, well... someone goes and decides to make a new movie based on the the Garbage Pail Kids. As you may know, Garbage Pail Kids were a series of collectible trading cards produced in the '80s that parodied the wildly popular Cabbage Patch Kids dolls. They were the brainchild of Art Spiegelman and had pun-oriented names like Up Chuck, Fartin' Martin and Potty Scotty, accompanied by grotesque and sometimes controversial imagery. They were so popular that they eventually spawned a feature film, The Garbage Pail Kids Movie, which is still hailed to this day as one of the worst movies ever made. Now Michael Eisner's The Tornante Company is setting up a brand new Garbage Pail Kids movie. It seems unlikely that it will be a direct remake, but it is possible that it...

Well, this certainly qualifies as horrific. I know you're all familiar with the Topps line of trading cards but have you actually seen The Garbage Pail Kids Movie? Holy sh*t is it awful. And weird. And kinda scary. But mostly it's the kind of gross that makes you want to throw your TV out the window and move somewhere cold, clean and untouched. The Yukon, maybe. So it comes as a great surprise that it's being remade. And that Michael Eisner, the former CEO of Disney, is behind it. The film will be written by Michael Vukadinovich and directed by Pes (to be fair, I wouldn't want to direct this under my own name either). Per Deadline, "Michael Eisners The Tornante Company will finance and produce development of a feature film based on Garbage Pail Kids..

There's no word on what approach Pes will be taking, but his below film, "Fresh...

In ‘celebration’ of the release of Adam Sandler’s latest comedy Jack & Jill (which is already out in the Us, alas UK readers will have to wait until February 3rd, but at least then you can take your loved ones to it on Valentine’s Day!), I thought I’d take a look at 10 other films I am baffled ever got the green light. I mean, watching the trailer for Jack & Jill one might think it was a deleted scene from the film Funny People in which Sandler mocked the kind of ridiculous high concept comedies that he is so often guilty of making. We thought after pushing them to extremes with spoof clips in that movie which included Sandler’s head magicked onto a baby’s body, it seemed like Sandler was both affectionately lampooning some of his early career decisions and also putting to rest that kind of...

An elf, a zombie, a rabbi, and an anime ninja walk into an all-purpose gym. Ok, so there’s no punch line, but it does sum up my weekend. This past weekend, Fangoria traveled to Long Island for the 28th annual I-con Convention. Though small compared to the New York Comic-Con or Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors, I-con does have a great deal of charm and personality all its own.
After setting up our booth, I journeyed out into the sea of vendors and costumed fans to see what I could find. Glancing over the convention schedule, I realized that Fangoria was the Only horror company there! I had my work cut out for me, spreading the word of Fango and representing the entire horror community by myself.
Along the way, I met tons of fans in some amazing costumes. I normally attend horror conventions, and I’m used to the...
