Netflix has quite a few new movies and television shows joining its ranks this March. Some of these are exclusives or originals, such as the second season of "Shadow and Bone," while others like the "Riddick" trilogy are being acquired through licensing agreements. Needless to say, if you are subscribed to Netflix, the chances that you'll find something intriguing to watch that month are high.
Of course, when new programs are added, some have to leave. Netflix is certainly no stranger to having big-name titles come and go from their service, although the vast majority of its originals have retained their place. However, March will likely be the month where that exclusivity is tested. There aren't too many titles leaving Netflix that month, but the ones that are could set the stage for how the platform filters its so-called "content" moving forward. Contains spoilers for Knock at the Cabin and The Cabin at the End of the World.
Knock at the Cabin is about love. It’s a home invasion horror, an apocalyptic disaster movie, a virtually single location character piece, but mostly it’s about love. Paul Tremblay’s The Cabin at the End of the World is also a book about love, though in some ways it’s a rather bleaker prospect when it comes to the end, depending on how you see it.
The film sees family Eric (Jonathan Groff), Andrew (Ben Aldridge) and their 8-year-old daughter Wen (Kristen Cui) on vacation in a remote cabin when they are visited by four strangers who come with a terrible prophesy – the world will end unless the family makes the active decision to sacrifice one of the three of them. They must choose and they must kill that person.

The twist in M. Night Shyamalan’s latest film comes at the beginning, not the end. The trouble with that arrangement is that a career of surprise-ending films, such as “The Sixth Sense” and “Signs,” has conditioned audiences to expect something juicy to be revealed at the eleventh hour, by which point, this apocalyptic head-scratcher has already played its hand.
“Knock at the Cabin” starts like a home-invasion thriller, with four armed strangers descending upon a remote cabin to perturb its occupants, except that none of the characters fits the stereotypes associated with the genre. First of all, the family renting the cabin isn’t what you might expect: a gay couple (Jonathan Groff and Ben Aldridge) with an adopted Chinese American daughter (Kristen Cui), perhaps 6 or 7 years old, with a cleft palate. The intruders are even more unusual: a second-grade teacher (Dave Bautista), a nurse (Nikki Amuka-Bird), a short-order...

Tribeca Festival, the event that wants to offer something for everyone, returns Wednesday with its sprawling collection of features and shorts, live music, TV, podcasts, games, and Ar/VR. The annual New York City-set fest has moved mostly back indoors this year, but will feature nods to 2021 like free outdoor screenings and an online edition, Tribeca At Home. A rich documentary slate tackles abortion, press freedom and the rise of social media. There’s a first-time award for environmental impact and a series of talks with Blackhouse Foundation centered on Poc storytelling.
“We’re an activist festival,” said Jane Rosenthal, co-founder with Robert De Niro and CEO of Tribeca Enterprises. “When you think back to how we founded the festival, we’ve always been political,” she added, a nod to the duo launching Tribeca after the September 11 terrorist attacks to buck up a physically and emotionally devastated neighborhood.

Since 1980, UCLA film grads and industry veterans John J. B. Wilson and Mo Murphy have honored the very worst in cinema with the Razzie Awards. Here’s a look back to the worst pictures of the last four decades.
“Can’t Stop the Music” (1980)
The Golden Raspberry Awards got their start by recognizing this musical comedy, a justly mocked quasi-biopic of the Village People.
Rotten Tomatoes score: 8%
“Mommie Dearest” (1981)
Faye Dunaway goes full camp as Joan Crawford in a docudrama whose comedy was often unintentional.
Rotten Tomatoes score: 53%
“Inchon” (1982)
This bloated, over-budget Korean war film starring Laurence Olivier as Gen. Douglas MacArthur was an epic turkey.
Rotten Tomatoes score: 0%
“The Lonely Lady” (1983)
Pia Zadora followed her mysterious (and widely mocked in retrospect) Golden Globe win for “Butterfly” with this adaptation of a trashy Harold Robbins novel about a schoolgirl/wannabe screenwriter.
Rotten Tomatoes score: 0%
“Bolero” (1984)

Filmmaker Pat Longstreth’s documentary Iron Family is a portrait of Jazmine Faries, a 32-year old woman with Down syndrome obsessed with soap operas, Barbie dolls, and Matthew McConaughey. For the past 5 summers, her family has performed her original stageplays for a small audience in their town of Iron River, Michigan. In this sixth season, we follow the creative process of writing, rehearsing, and performing the play. Family bonds between her brother Chad, and her mother, Kate, are strengthened and put to the test by the mishaps and chaos of coordinating a production with limited resources. Along the way we see Jazmine’s personal struggle for independence, her yearning for a romantic partner, and how a single spark of creativity can spread joy throughout a community. Parody movies are nearly extinct these days. Don’t get me wrong, the genre as a whole will never be dead. We’re getting something here and there, but the demand for these types of movies is simply faded away. While Airplane! is far from the first film to make a parody feature, the comedy that mocks disaster movies made the genre a hot commodity. Then more movies like Caddyshack, Leonard Part 6, The Naked Gun, and Lethal Weapon popped up. As you can see, the genre had some clunkers but

The Post learned from Law Enforcement that the 54-year-old Lovecraft Country actor was found in his Brooklyn apartment by his nephew.
While there isn't an official cause of death, there was drug paraphernalia in the apartment, suggesting a possible overdoe.
The star had been open about his personal struggle with drugs, revealing in an interview with NPR in 2016 that he went to a church in New Jersey to get help for his addiction.

Exclusive: We have learned that Jim Mickle, co-creator of Netflix’s Sweet Tooth, is partnering with Legendary and AfterShock Media to helm the film adaptation of Donny Cates’ acclaimed graphic novel God Country.
In God Country, Emmett Quinlan is an elderly widower rattled by dementia. Emmett isn’t just a problem for his children–his violent outbursts are more than the local cops can handle. When a tornado levels his home–as well as the surrounding West Texas town–a restored Quinlan rises from the wreckage. An enchanted sword at the eye of the storm gives him not just a sound mind and body, but phenomenal power. He’s now the only man who can face the otherworldly creatures the sword has drawn down to the Lone Star State in a film that will bring a Western aesthetic to the super hero genre.
Cates adapted the screenplay from the Image Comics 2017 graphic novel.

It’s happening. It’s finally happening. What was once a particularly pervasive and aggressive Internet meme is now a reality. HBO Max’s list of new releases for March 2021 is highlighted by none other than the mythical Snyder cut.
The entity now known as Zach Snyder’s Justice League will premiere on March 18. While it was originally planned to be a four-part miniseries, this recut version of 2017’s ill-fated Justice League will in fact be a four-hour movie. But perhaps even four hours won’t be enough for fans who have been waiting years for just such an event.

As reported by Deadline, character actor John Hostetter—who had a recurring role on Murphy Brown and did voiceover work for a handful of anime films—died last week from “cancer complications.” He was 69.
Born in Brooklyn but raised in Maryland, Hostetter was a stage actor before making the transition to film and TV. His first movie role came in the 1979 Arthur Hiller comedy The In-Laws, and from there he moved onto a whole bunch of minor roles in big shows like CHiPs, T.J. Hooker, Knight Rider, Remington Steele, Family Ties, and Moonlighting, as well as the occasional movie role in stuff like Into The Night, Heartbreak Ridge, and the Bill Cosby vehicle Leonard Part 6. However, his most recognizable role came in 1988 when he joined the cast of CBS’s Murphy Brown. The show went on to become a big hit for the network, and ...

For years I, and many others, believed that James Bryan’s The Executioner Part II was one of those “hilarious” movies – like Leonard Part 6 and Surf II – that posits that it is a sequel, only it’s a sequel to a non-existent movie! Turns out that is Not the case here… Bryan’s film is in fact an in-name-only sequel to the 1970 George Peppard film The Executioner. How do I know this? Well it’s all thanks to the fascinating interview with James Bryan found on the new Blu-ray of the film from Vinegar Syndrome off-shoot Exploitation.TV – released as part of the Indiegogo campaign for the companies VOD service.
Hailed as one of the craziest, and most incomprehensible action movies Ever, The Executioner Part II is just that.

Who's that man posing with the Beatles? He's the Hollywood producer who signed the Fab Four to star in A Hard Day's Night before they touched down in America for the first time. He's also the guy who launched the James Bond movie franchise by giving the green light to make Dr. No, then saved it by luring Sean Connery back for one more movie. He also discovered the likes of Steve Martin and Woody Allen on the stand-up circuit and started their movie careers. Many movers and shakers in the entertainment industry are hidden in the fine print and not seen in the spotlight, and now legendary producer David Picker is stepping out with a new memoir – Musts, Maybes, and Nevers: A Book About the Movies – and sharing some Hollywood tales with ETonline.

What is this, a leftover SNL sketch? The family-friendly comedy genre is a lean one and with good reason -- they usually don't work. "I Spy"? "Leonard Part 6"? "Get Smart"? "Spies Like Us"? You see where we're going with this? But Seth Rogen thinks he can figure it out and has set up a new movie over at wholesome Disney studios. Entitled "The B Team" (clever!) the project was a pitch picked up by the studio three years ago, and will now enter development with Rogen set to star. Dreamed up by Derek Guiley and David Schneiderman (the duo behind the Mandy Moore rom-com "Chasing Liberty") the story will center on a secret agent who is kidnapped, forcing the rest of his team to come to the rescue. So imagine if Ethan Hunt was inept and had to be rescued by Simon Pegg. Hilarious? Everything is still in early...

There are no two comedic stars who are as serious about comedy as Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy, and no two actors who have starred in such a bounty of diverse blockbusters. Murphy, his mouth spouting jokes at breakneck speed, is a natural foil for Stiller, who's at his best when shown struggling to comprehend the intentions of a stronger willed costar.
Lucky for us, the yin-and-yang pair (no, not because one's white and one's black -- we mean in temperament!) is about to collide in "Tower Heist." And, as a pre-game show, we're throwing this vertically challenged duo in the ring to battle it out. So let's get ready to rumble ... and/or read quietly to ourselves!
Full Name
Eddie Murphy: Edward Regan Murphy
Ben Stiller: Benjamin Edward Stiller
Advantage: Stiller. By co-opting Eddie's name as his own middle name, Stiller dominates Murphy in truly humiliating fashion.

Back in the day, Bill Cosby’s “Leonard Part 6″ didn’t have much luck introducing itself to audiences as an original product with a higher integer in its title, and the teen-lilting sci-fi action adventure “I Am Number Four” perhaps elicited similar confusion when it bowed in theaters earlier this February. Unimpressive domestic returns ($55 million), however, might not have sullied the chances of survival for this adaptation of the first in a proposed six-book series cowritten by James Frey (yes, the lying author emasculated by Oprah Winfrey) and Jobie Hughes. If it returns, one will have both international markets (where it grossed $90 million) and the presence of Teresa Palmer,...

I haven't seen "Vampires Suck" so I have nothing to say against it. I'm not big on Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer's most recent spoof flicks, but all credit goes to them for starting a fun series with "Scary Movie." I think my problem with subsequent efforts, like "Date Movie," "Disaster Movie" and "Meet the Spartans," is the lack of a strong narrative thread. Most of the greatest classic send-ups tell a story first and mix in the humor second.
I hear that "Vampires Suck" does that as well, following the basic story beats laid out in "Twilight" and "New Moon." I can't say if they've been taking notes from some of the classics, but whenever one of these movies comes out I always thumb through my catalog and pull out some favorites to watch again. I figure with "Vampires Suck" out tomorrow, now's a good time to share...

Bill Cosby is 73 years old today! I love you Bill, but you still owe as an apology for Leonard Part 6. Speaking of Leonard Part 6, did you know that Cosby, knowing fully well how horrible the film was, denounced it in the press weeks before it was released, expressing his disappointment in it, and even discouraged audiences from going to see it? He also bought the TV rights, to ensure that it never would air on television! I guess that was his way of apologizing… alright Bill, we forgive you. Happy birthday...

Here's a look back at past weekends comparable to June 25-27, 2010: 5 Years Ago - 2005 Topping the weekend, Batman Begins held solidly by summer blockbuster standards in its second outing, dropping 43 percent to $27.6 million. The three new nationwide releases were sourced from 1960s, and none faired particularly well. Bewitched wasn't as enchanting as its makers had hoped, grabbing $20.1 million at 3,174 sites. The picture strayed from its television predecessor with an unrelatable Hollywood send-up, and co-star Will Ferrell was unconvincing as a romantic lead opposite Nicole Kidman. Herbie: Fully Loaded aimed to be an all-encompassing family hit but, in the process, wound up with limited appeal, making $12.7 million at 3,521 sites. Relying mostly on its brand name in the wake of the Dawn of the Dead remake, George A. Romero's Land of the Dead grabbed $10.2 million at 2,249 sites. * Weekend Report: 'Batman' Sweeps 'Bewitched,' Swats Bug 10 Years Ago - 2000 Me,...

Despite its fast pace and boatload of action (literally!), this week's episode of Lost didn't deliver significant answers or raise any major questions.
As a result, we only gave it three out of five stars, our lowest grade for any season six installment.
But that doesn't mean there wasn't a lot to break down from "The Last Recruit." A trio of TV Fanatic staff members has done just that in this week's edition of the Lost Round Table...
So... the Man in Black admitted he's been Christian each time Jack's father appeared on the island. Were you satisfied with this resolution?
M.L. House: Yes. But I was disappointed in Jack's follow-up, or lackthereof. I know Lost must drag out the suspense and can't just answer every question in one conversation. But the monumental moment of FakeLocke sitting down with Jack, and revealing such a vital piece of information, fell...

Forgotten Films [1] is a semi-regular feature on Film Junk where we explore interesting movies that have fallen off the radar or slipped through the cracks over the years. I've been getting a bit behind on my Forgotten Films lately, but in a way, it's only fitting that I waited until now to write this column since there has been so much Cosby content on the Film Junk Podcast lately. While Jay has been busy going through every single season of The Cosby Show, a couple of months ago I rewatched one of Bill Cosby's less celebrated classics: the disastrous '80s spy spoof, Leonard Part 6. There once was a time when Bill Cosby could do no wrong. He made a name for himself doing stand-up comedy in the '60s, and his charisma and knack for storytelling and characterizations led to him being cast in I Spy alongside Robert Culp.

One of the great features over at the Internet Movie Database is the Bottom 100. Based on ratings viewers of the site give to various films, the worst of the worst films get put on this list. Some of them are on and off in a matter of days. Others stick around for the long haul, showing just how much suckage they truly emit.
It’s time to look at these movies and determine where they stand. Do they deserve to be on the Bottom 100 list? Are they not as bad as everyone says? Will they be off the list any time soon?
Here’s the breakdown for this week’s film:

Bernie (Gregg Sulkin), the hero of the Britcom "Sixty Six," is a preteen Job whose lengthy list of miseries - including the failure of his hopelessly square dad's greengrocer business - is topped by his bar mitzvah being scheduled against the final of the 1966 World Cup at Wembley.
Bernie's fantasies of a Big Fat British Bar Mitzvah to rival his older brother's literally go up in smoke even as he places a voodoo curse on his country's World Cup team and dutifully studies with a blind rabbi.
