While our review of War of the Worlds: Goliath will be posted later this week, we have a very, and I mean very, special giveaway to one special reader.
For those that may not remember, War of the Worlds: Gliath was written by David Abramowitz of Highlander fame, features the voice talents of Adrian Paul, Peter Wingfield, Adam Baldwin, Elizabeth Gracen and Jim Byrnes among others and takes place in an alternate reality Manhattan where Martian invaders use 80 feet tall steampunk-like war machines to lay waste to the planet.

Produced by Tripod Entertainment, War of the Worlds: Goliath comes from executive producer Kevin Eastman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and is directed by animation veteran Joe Pearson, and written by David Abramowitz (Highlander). Featuring the voice talents of Adrian Paul, Peter Wingfield, Adam Baldwin, Elizabeth Gracen and Jim Byrnes, the movie is animated with combination of CG and traditional cel animation in what looks to be a steampunk epic!
Currently in production, War of the Worlds: Goliath is scheduled for worldwide release in 2012.
In 1899, the Earth was attacked by ruthless invaders from the planet Mars. The Martian’s 80 ft tall, heat-ray spewing, Tripod battle machines laid waste to the planet, but the invaders ultimately fell prey to Earth’s tiny bacteria. Fifteen years later, Man has rebuilt his shattered world, in large part by utilizing captured Martian technology. Equipped with giant, steam-powered Tripod battle machines, the international rapid reaction force,...

The 2011 edition of a movie critic's dream unreels again this week. In my own home town, I'll be able to show the films of my choice in a classic movie palace, flawlessly projected on a giant screen before a movie-loving audience. To paraphrase Orson Welles when he was given the run of Rko Radio Pictures to make his own movie, it's the biggest train set a boy could ever want.
Ebertfest 2011 runs April 27-May 1. The passes have been sold but we've always been able to find room for everyone in line inside the 1,600-seat Virginia Theater. Its long-term renovation continued this year with work on the lobby, the concession stand and the upstairs lobby. The marquee is a work in progress.
The preservation of theaters like this is invaluable; such buildings will never again be constructed, and most of our filmmakers will never have seen their films with such a large audience.

Looking.. mighty.. fine! We first reported on this project back in June, but now that the first mech-tastic trailer just dropped today we're even more excited to check out Joe Pearson's War of the Worlds: Goliath. I mean, it's steampunk, it's got an interesting throwback animation style and more massive rampaging robot war machines then you can possibly imagine.
