Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey surprised everyone with its spectacular commercial success with a micro-production budget of $50,000. Although it was unable to stay on the critics’ good side, film director Rhys Frake-Waterfield didn’t take it negatively.

It seems like every other week there’s a new horror release based on some classic literary character. Whether it’s Pinocchio or Winnie the Pooh, there doesn’t seem to be a sign of them slowing down. And this time their sights are on Cinderella. I’m sure you can imagine all the ways that classic tale can be given a horror slant, with Cinderella’s awful treatment by her stepfamily. The movie itself has some fun moments (you can check out my review Here) but the real highlight is Natasha Henstridge as the Fairy Godmother. She relishes every moment of screen time and looks to be having a blast. So I was excited to be able to talk to her about the part.
Plus, if you know me, you know I’m going to ask Ms. Henstridge about some random horror movie she’s in. The culprit this...

From the team behind Flickering Myth comes the gothic horror film The Baby In The Basket. First look and more details below.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: 2024 has been a proper rollercoaster ride for horror fans. After a slow start, we’ve since been treated to the excellent Immaculate and The First Omen and the riotously fun Abigail and we’re not too far off from the release of Renny Harlin’s The Strangers: Chapter 1.
We’ve now got word of another horror film heading our way, hopefully sooner rather than later. The Baby In The Basket is directed by Nathan Shepka and Andy Crane from a script by Tom Jolliffe.
The Baby In The Basket is “set in 1942 where, as World War II rages on as the nuns of isolated Scottish monastery St. Augustine’s prepare for an incoming storm front. During the night,...

The company was previously known as Toon Studio but has rebranded and refinanced with plans to create new versions of classic characters.
Deadline hears Elf Labs is building an immersive, cloud-based streaming platform for the characters and will also launch content based on the characters directly on YouTube, bypassing traditional gatekeepers. “I bring you news from America, where commissions are plentiful and they all come within two weeks,” joked Dawn Porter, playing to the industry crowd at the international television market MIPTV on Sunday.
It got a big laugh. Everyone in the audience knows the reality: That the era of peak TV is past and that broadcasters and streamers are slashing their budgets for original programming. That decline is one of the reasons this will be the last MIPTV, with plans to move Mip to London next year and dramatically downsize the storied TV market. The mood on the Croisette this year is practically funereal.
But Porter came to Mip not to bury the TV business but to praise it.

Oh dear. The Poohniverse is expanding. Umbrella Entertainment has released the first teaser for the next installment of their B-movie horror franchise centered on horrifying versions of beloved children’s characters.
In the teaser for Bambi: The Reckoning, two hunters are seen practicing shooting in the woods with a dead bird tied to a tree. “You ever shot a deer?” one hunter asks the other. “No. Have you?” the second hunter replies. “Yeah, once,” the first hunter says. The teaser seems to imply that this hunter is the same one who killed Bambi’s mother.
The final shots of the teaser show a vicious and angry deer attacking a car. The vehicle turns completely over before the deer lets out a guttural roar. The main plot of the film is said to follow characters Xana (Roxanne McKee) and her son Benji (Tom Mulheron) who are in the car wreck and...

The original Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was easily one of the worst films of last year, but based on its outrageous premise and low budget, it managed to turn a profit. That of course means a sequel, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, with all the usual claims of a bigger budget, more kills and better effects. Conspicuously absent were promises of a decent script or acting, however.
Taking place a year after the original, Blood and Honey 2 opens with the introduction of Owl, who looks more like a vulture than anything. He joins Pooh and Piglet in their fun and games, starting with the torture and killing of three scantily clad campers.
Elsewhere, Christopher Robin, now played by Scott Chambers, aka producer Scott Jeffrey,...

In news likely to simultaneously delight and appall across the cinema world, a third instalment of IP-bludgeoning slasher ‘Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey’ has been confirmed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield and Scott Chambers of prolific horror banner Jagged Edge Productions.
According to the producers, ‘Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 3’ will have a bigger budget than the previous films and will introduce new characters from the original Winnie-the-Pooh stories, including Rabbit, the heffalumps and the woozles. All will no doubt be given sadistic, murderous twists.
The news comes with ‘Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2’ now in U.S. cinemas as part of its 3-day theatrical run via Fathom Events, and just over a year after the release of the first of what is now a quick-fire three-part franchise.

Plot: Not wanting to live in the shadows any longer, Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Owl and Tigger take their fight to the town of Ashdown, leaving a bloody trail of death and mayhem in their wake.
Review: Last year’s Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey proved to be one of the worst horror films of the year. It was my least favorite theatrical experience and completely barren of any passion. It was a dull affair that failed to deliver much on the horror or the fun. So I rolled my eyes when a sequel was announced. Then they reached near the back of my skull when the Poohniverse was announced. But I’m here to tell you that it appears the filmmakers learned their lesson and understand what their films need to be: fun.

The results are in on the 2024 Razzie Awards, and it was a very big (but not necessarily great) night for one movie and one actress this year.
The annual awards show, which took place one day before the 2024 Oscars on Saturday (March 9), hands out awards to performers and movies that have been deemed the “worst.”
Going into the ceremony, Expend4bles led the pack of nominees with 7 nods in categories such as Worst Picture and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off of Sequel.
However, when it came time for the awards to be handed out, another movie swept the field, picking up five Razzies. One actress also won big, being named Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actress.
However, one Hollywood icon received redemption this year!

Well, everyone, the winners for the 22nd Annual Golden Schmoes for the year 2023 are in. As expected, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer walked away the big winner, earning nine Schmoes. It took home most of the big prizes, including Best Movie, Actor, Supporting Actor, Director, Screenplay, Poster, Trailer, Line of the Year and Best Sequence. While an excellent showing that beat the seven wins Everything Everywhere All At Once took home last year, it still falls short of our all-time winner here at the Schmoes, Nolan’s own The Dark Knight, which won an amazing 12 awards.
Otherwise, the winners were an eclectic mix. Godzilla Minus One, which is now widely considered the greatest Kaiju movie ever made, took home three awards, including Best VFX, which is impressive considering how small its budget was compared to the competition. Third place was an interesting tie, with John Wick: Chapter 4, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,...

In the past few years, there have been more than a few films in Hollywood that took childhood classic characters, that symbolize innocence and purity and turned them into something horrid and dark.
The Winnie the Pooh horror film is the perfect example. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey follows the story of a setting where Christopher Robin goes to show his fiance to his childhood friends, only to find out that things have drastically changed.
A still from Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey
The concept is something that hasn’t been seen before and stirred a lot of conversation. Despite this, it would seem that the film could not pass two of the biggest loops that any film has to pass to be relevant and successful; audience and critics.
The 2023 film scored embarrassingly in both of the categories, unfortunately turning itself into the laughingstock of the horror community.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is among those entries in the slasher film category that horrifyingly re-conceptualize iconic children’s properties and characters that were (and continue to be) symbols of child-like familiarity and nostalgia in most audiences’ lives. Development of the horror movie started in 2022, the same year that A.A. Milne’s 1926 book about the titular anthropomorphic teddy bear went into public domain.
Although the endeavor sparked public intrigue at the peak of its announcement, the responses it received at the time were divisive.
Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey (2023)
Upon its release, partly due to its viral stature, the Rhys Frake-Waterfield-helmed and written premise was triumphant at the box office, given its $100,000 budget. However, it failed to resonate with critics and several viewers and earned itself a 3% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Last year’s viral hit Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is getting a sequel this year, and Jagged Edge Productions has released the film’s bloody official trailer this morning.
The team has promised that returning director Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey II will be bigger, better and bloodier than the first film, with a higher budget allowing for both brand new creature designs and a higher kill count.
IGN debuted the trailer today, and you can watch it below.
Frake-Waterfield had teased the upcoming sequel last year, “This time Pooh and friends will be leaving the 100 Acre Wood to take their fight to the quiet community of Ashdown!”
The sequel will feature Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin, Piglet, Owl and Tigger.
Here’s the official synopsis:

Awards season is here, which means it is also time for the annual Golden Raspberry Awards. The Razzies, which aims to (dis)honor the least successful films of the year, has announced nominations for its 44th edition.
The most-nominated film is “Expend4bles,” the fourth entry in the action-packed, but critically underwhelming, “The Expendables” franchise. It received seven nominations. Tied for second place with five noms are “The Exorcist: Believer,” the revival of the classic horror series, and “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” a blood-soaked take on everyone’s favorite honey-loving bear. Two big-budget superhero movies, DC’s “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” and Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” both got four nominations.

Expend4bles leads the nominees for the Golden Raspberry Awards — aka the Razzies — which were unveiled Monday morning.
The film earned seven nominations for the Razzie Awards, which honor the worst of the year and are announced annually ahead of the Oscars noms announcement, which takes place Tuesday morning.
Expend4bles is one of five movies competing for “worst picture” of the year. The nominees in that category, along with the Razzies’ comments, are:
— The Exorcist: Believer: “a 50-years-later remake/rip-off that was horrifying in unintended ways”
— Expend4bles: “another installment of a franchise that’s fading faster than Razzie ‘winner’ Donald Trump’s mental acuity”

Mickey Mouse has got a knife. With those simple words, and the corresponding horror movie trailer which goes with them, it’s become clear that the 21st century is about to get weird. Well, weirder, at any rate.
Nearly a hundred years after Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks animated the short film “Steamboat Willie,” which introduced a rodent who helped Walt build an empire, the same short cartoon has entered the public domain as of Jan. 1, 2024. And already there have been as many new Mickey Mouse slasher projects announced as there’ve been days in the New Year.
The first and clearly most advanced is Mickey’s Mouse Trap, a film set in a fictional amusement park where teenagers are picked off one at a time by a man with uncomfortably familiar-looking mouse ears. The logline promises (or warns?): “It’s Alex’s 21st Birthday, but she’s stuck...

Another horror film using Steamboat Willie Mickey Mouse as a villain has been announced. More details here:
Well, they wasted no time on this. Earlier today, we brought you the trailer for Mickey’s Mouse Trap, an upcoming horror film which takes full advantage of Steamboat Willie, the 1928 black and white animated film that introduced Mickey Mouse to the world, entering the public domain.
Variety now reports that there’s another Mickey themed horror film coming to our screens. This one is still untitled at the moment, but will veer closer to the Steamboat Willie iteration of the character. The film will follow a sadistic mouse terrorising the passengers on a ferry.
Steven Lamorte is on directing duties for the film, which is reportedly a comedy horror rather than a straightforward scarefest. Lamorte has previously helmed The Mean One, which was a horror parody of The Grinch.

In the blissful infancy of YouTube back in 2006, one of the medium's earliest viral sensations was a video called "Scary Mary." YouTube creator Christopher Rule edited his own trailer for "Mary Poppins," Disney's 1964 musical classic. Instead of depicting the movie's family-friendly fantasy, though, Rule cut "Scary Mary" as a horror film. The result was surprisingly convincing, and posited an intriguing, funny, and somewhat disturbing thesis: With a change in perspective, beloved fictional characters can instantly switch from kind to creepy.
The team behind "Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey" — a real movie in the Year of Our Lord, 2023 — embraced this spirit to imagine the universally adored Pooh Bear of literature and film as a serial killer. Made on a budget of less than $100,000, director Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s movie Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey (watch it Here) earned more than $6 million during its global release earlier this year – which means the sequel, which is going by the title Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, has a larger budget. In fact, it’s estimated to be around ten times the budget of the first movie. The filmmakers are using some of that extra money to give the creature effects an upgrade, as you can see by the look of Pooh in a recently unveiled image from the film. That image can be found at the bottom of this article.
The Hollywood Reporter got the first look at this image of Pooh, and also sat down for an interview with Frake-Waterfield and producer Scott Jeffrey (who steps in front of the camera to play Christopher Robin in...

A sequel to this year’s Winnie the Pooh slasher movie, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is on the way soon, and it promises to be bigger, bloodier, and (hopefully) better.
Speaking with Variety this week, returning writer/director Rhys Frake-Waterfield talks about the increase in budget for the sequel, and how it will allow for more carnage.
“In comparison to the first film everything’s stepped up massively. It’s a horror film. A lot of the times people are going there for the death scenes and for those elements and we’ve really upped the ante,” Frake-Waterfield explains. “I think the last time I did a count there was over 30 deaths in the movie, which is quite substantial compared to most movies. I think that’s at least over three times what the first film had and there’s various massacres and stuff. So there’s...

“Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” is back in the news after a Miami teacher reportedly showed the film to his fourth-grade class. With the sequel to the viral micro-budget horror set to premiere on Valentine’s Day next year, Variety spoke to director and co-writer Rhys Waterfield about how much more blood (and honey) audiences can expect and whether he thinks those fourth graders will be Ok.
What did you think about the fourth-grade class accidentally watching the movie?
It’s mad, isn’t it? I think it’s crazy. Because when you watch the film there is no way you can mistake it for a child’s film, literally in the first 10 minutes, crazy stuff’s happening. And [the characters] look scary. So I don’t know how — because they said it went on 20 to 30 minutes — I don’t know how it went on that long. I don’t know...

A sequel to this year’s Winnie the Pooh slasher movie, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is on the way and in production now, and IGN shares new imagery today.
The sequel will feature Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin, Piglet, and Owl, we recently learned, and IGN confirms this week that Tigger will also be brought into the mix.
“Tigger is incredibly violent. He loves to torture his victims before killing them,” producer Scott Jeffrey tells IGN, teasing the twisted version of Tigger we’ll meet next year.
IGN also reveals that the reason Tigger wasn’t used in the first movie is because the character wasn’t in the public domain at the time. In 2024, however, he will be.

As of January 1, 2022, Disney no longer owned the exclusive rights to A.A. Milne‘s Winnie The Pooh. Now the situation wasn’t exactly black and white as there are little wrinkles to the situation. For instance, Tigger remains exclusive to the company giant until 2024. However, Winnie The Pooh is out in public domain, and that means anyone can make use of the popular character for film or television. Enter Rhys Frake-Waterfield. The writer/director announced a horror film highlighting the popular cartoon character. Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood & Honey actually got some solid traction from the mainstream because of the unique nature...

The Mean One, a highly unofficial Christmas horror movie that turns the Grinch into a slasher movie maniac, received a limited theatrical release last holiday season. THR reports today that the holiday slasher finally set a date for home release.
Steven Lamorte‘s outrageous slasher parody will finally come home to VOD on October 3 from DeskPop Entertainment.
In the audacious new parody, The Mean One (Terrifier 2‘s David Howard Thornton) is a hairy, green-skinned grump in a Santa suit, living on a mountain high above the town of Newville, despising the holiday season. Young Cindy You-Know-Who (Krystle Martin), whose parents were butchered by The Mean One twenty Christmases earlier, is returning to town to seek closure… but when the Mean One launches a new reign of terror that threatens to destroy Christmas, Cindy finds a bold new purpose – trapping and killing the monster.

This one is the 76-year-old Dundee-born actor, who started his career as a classically trained Shakespearean thespian, who played opposite Laurence Olivier in King Lear in 1983. His performances in Rob Roy and Braveheart shot him into the mainstream. Roles soon followed in The Long Kiss Goodnight and Super Troopers. Turns out Treadstone was all his fault in 2002’s The Bourne Identity. And if he’d been a bit nicer to the apes in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, perhaps they wouldn’t have taken over the world. Silly Brian.

Just when you thought Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was going to be the only for-adults-only adaptation of the classic children’s story this year, Variety reports today on an entirely different project in the works from Boat Rocker Studios and Bay Mills Studios.
Titled “Christopher Robin,” this particular adaptation of the public domain story is said to be a hybrid of live action and animation, and it very much aims to be rated “R”.
In the series, “Christopher Robin is a disillusioned New Yorker navigating his quarter-life crisis with the help of the weird talking animals who live beyond a drug-induced portal outside his derelict apartment complex, the Hundred Acres.”
Conrad Vernon (Sausage Party) is directing the pilot and executive producing.
Charlie Kesslering wrote the script for “Christopher Robin” and will also executive produce. Nick Nantell executive produces for Boat Rocker along with Shamier Anderson and Stephan James for Bay Mills.

Oh, bother. What has Winnie-the-Pooh gotten himself into this time? Something quite a bit more troubling than the usual travails of Hundred Acre Wood, it turns out.
First, the lovable children’s character was transformed into the murderous protagonist of Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, a micro-budget U.K. slasher film that went viral and scored theatrical distribution across the globe. Then, when the film landed in Hong Kong, Pooh — or the new, cannibalistic horror flick version of him — became the surprise source of a censorship controversy involving none less than Chinese president Xi Jinping. And the impact of this surreal character arc, according to insiders, could have real-world implications for the fabled Hong Kong film industry’s rapidly dwindling creative freedoms.
From prolific Brit horror banner Jagged Edge Productions, known for its gleefully exploitative and childhood-ruining shlock (it’s currently working on a slasher version of Bambi), Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey...

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, the new horror film based on A. A. Milne’s beloved bear, was pulled by cinemas in Hong Kong and Macau abruptly on Tuesday, just a day before the film’s official premiere there.
While there’s clear reason for the cancellation — and uncertainty as to who actually made the decision — many in the West are speculating whether it has to do with the film’s titular character, who has a complicated association with China’s president, Xi Jinping. In the 2010s, after memes of then-President Barack Obama and President Xi went viral, China censored key images of the character. Yet, Winnie the Pooh is not “banned” in the country: while there is still targeted censorship of certain portrayals, the bear appears on merchandise shelves and even has rides at Shanghai Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland.

The director of John Wick: Chapter 4 has hit back at criticims of the film’s mammoth three-hour runtime.
The film – a third sequel to the hit 2014 action thriller starring Keanu Reeves – is the longest entry in the franchise to date, lasting two hours and 49 minutes in total. In comparison, the original John Wick was a mere 101 minutes.
Critics and fans have questioned the reasoning for such a long sequel, with The Guardian branding the film “overlong and overstuffed” in a two-star review.
However, the film’s director Chad Stahelski has dismissed the impact of these criticisms, telling Digital Spy: “If that’s the critique, we’ll take it.”
He continued: “I don’t think we’ve ever concerned ourselves, we just watch the movie. I think it’s the length that we feel is the best version of the movie. We’ve tried longer, we’ve tried much shorter.

When AA Milne first came up with the character of Winnie-the-Pooh, he probably never envisaged the loveable bear slitting the throats of four East Sussex truck drivers. It’s also unlikely that he ever imagined a scenario in which Piglet would bludgeon someone to death with a sledgehammer in a swimming pool. However, these are things that actually happen in Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, the micro-budget slasher film that reimagines the creatures of the Hundred Acre Wood as cannibalistic freaks.
If that concept sounds utterly ridiculous, that’s because it is. From the design of Pooh to the fascinatingly ropey script and performances, this film really does produce bigger laughs than your average comedy. But according to writer-director Rhys Frake-Waterfield, it’s meant to. He points to a scene in which Pooh throws a decapitated head at a car, only for it to be swept away by the windscreen wipers.

The movie world could soon be getting a new cinematic universe to rival that of the MCU and MosterVerse, although on a significantly more cut-price level. And with a lot more gore.
