For an actor it’s a strange experience to come upon a character you’re about to play in the flesh — or in the plastic. After Ryan Gosling first read the script for Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” he walked into his backyard and found the real thing — one of his daughters’ Ken dolls — lying in the dirt, naked, with his face in a pile of mud.
“I’m sure you heard this story,” Gosling says with a grin. It’s true — it’s a story he loves to tell. But now there’s a new ending. Long after “Barbie” opened in theaters last July, after it became the biggest movie of 2023 and inspired grown men to don neon pink in public, Gosling spotted Ken in his family home once more. This time, he was better dressed, which is to say that he was dressed. “He was wearing a tuxedo, albeit a sleeveless one,...

Among Keri Russell’s many screen credits is one of her earliest, and least remembered: appearing in “The All New Mickey Mouse Club” back in the early 1990s.
In a new interview with W Magazine promoting her recent Netflix drama “The Diplomat”, Russell recalled her days as a teenage Mouseketeer alongside a cast of future stars that included Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling and Christina Aguilera.
“Some of those people are still my best friends — Ilana [Miller] and Lindsey [Alley],” she said.

Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" centers around the iconic doll (Margot Robbie) trying to find her human owner in the real world in hopes that it will stop her from further malfunctioning. While Ken (Ryan Gosling) plays a big part in the film, his goal is much simpler: to get noticed by Barbie. After failing to do so several times, Ken sings his frustrations out in a ballad called "I'm Just Ken" during the film's climax. The song is all about feeling like he'll never be good enough for Barbie with lyrics like, "Doesn't seem to matter what I do. I'm always number two."
Since some actors don't actually provide their own vocals in movies, you may have left the theater wondering whether Gosling actually sings in "Barbie." Let's dive into it.

With Warner Bros.’ “Barbie” and Universal’s giant action tentpole “The Fall Guy” on the way, Ryan Gosling remains one of Hollywood’s most in-demand leading men. But that wasn’t always the case. The Oscar nominee recently told GQ magazine that his rise to leading man got its start because he landed his first few roles on the belief that he wasn’t leading man material to begin with.
Gosling’s acting breakthrough came in 2001 with his leading role in Henry Bean’s “The Believer,” in which he played a Jewish kid from New York who becomes a Neo-Nazi. Gosling is none of these, but he said “the fact that I wasn’t really right for it was exactly why [Henry] thought I was right for it.” The actor got similar feedback when he went to audition for “The Notebook,” Nick Cassavetes’ 2004 Nicholas Sparks adaptation that turned Gosling and...

For art director Alan Bodner, working on animated special “Mickey the Brave!” (premiering July 16 on Disney Junior) was a chance to pay homage to “The Mickey Mouse Club,” which he grew up watching as a child.
“You felt as if you were in a storybook,” Bodner reflects as he remembers the beautiful sets. The styling and whimsical feel of the series were ideas that he pointed to when it came to creating the special episode that kicks off the “Mickey Mouse Funhouse” series. The primetime special sees Mickey Mouse and his friends Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Daisy and Pluto go on an adventure to the funhouse forest to find out if dragons are good or bad.
The fearlessly bold colors and fantastical world of Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland” served as an influence for “Mickey the Brave!,” but the new episode wasn’t simply a copy. “We wanted to look at...

Christina Aguilera is voicing her support for Britney Spears. During a court hearing on June 23, Britney requested for her years-long conservatorship be terminated, detailing the "abusive" arrangement that is stopping her from living a full life, including getting married or having kids. On Monday, Christina reacted to the court hearing in a series of emotional tweets, reiterating that Britney deserves all the love and support in the world.
"These past few days I've been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through," she wrote alongside a throwback photo of her and Britney from their Mickey Mouse Club days. "It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish. March marked the 65th anniversary of the wrap of the first season of the “Mickey Mouse Club,” and the recent death of one of the original Mouseketeers, Johnny Crawford, reminded fans of the enduring talent that the show, and especially its early 1990s iteration, brought to the entertainment industry. The original “Mickey Mouse Club” launched the career of Annette Funicello, who occupied a beloved niche in audiences’ hearts for six decades, and the 1990s revival produced Oscar nominees and artists who’ve sold tens of millions of albums and redefined pop music and pop culture. But who are the greatest Mouseketeers? It’s a list ready for debate between boomers and gen Z.

“If you come anywhere near me, just remember I have hip-hop friends and country friends — two populations that are guaranteed to own guns,” a scandal-drenched and lap dance-promising Matt Gaetz was told on Saturday Night Live tonight in no uncertain terms by Lil Nas X in the cold open.

Rapper Lil Nas X made his Saturday Night Live “debut” this week (by way of Chris Redd) in a cold open that also featured Britney Spears, cancelled Looney Tunes character Pepé Le Pew and disgraced Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz. Because why not.

For cinema owners, 2020 was clearly a watershed year, with many wondering about the long-term future of moviegoing. So a Nov. 2, 1953, guest column by Walt Disney, “The Crucial Year for Pictures,” is a reminder that theaters have survived other crises, and presumably will again.
“The motion picture industry stands once more on the verge of a new era,” wrote Disney, adding that it was “a crucial time, certainly, but one of many it has survived with little impairment of its progress or its health. And certainly without occasion for alarm or defeatism.”
He referred to it as a time of “growing pains which must come periodically to every vital institution which deals with masses of people.” But in the entire column, he never mentioned the source of anxiety: television. In 1950, only 20% of American homes had a TV set. Only two years later, in July 1952, Variety reported that one out of three U.

While the two were good friends back then - Justin's mom even became Ryan's legal guardian during the last six months of filming - the two had a rather awkward encounter at the Academy Awards on Sunday night. During Justin's energetic opening performance of "Can't Stop the Feeling," he danced through the audience and stopped to interact with other stars, including Ryan, who looked less than excited when Justin came over to him and rested his hand on his shoulder. Earlier this month, Justin revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that things have chilled between the former pals. Ryan Gosling has spent more than half his life in the entertainment industry, beginning in 1993 on The All New Mickey Mouse Club, and he has made some giant strides in his career in that time. His latest big step, however, has been to put acting on pause while he exercises his skills as a director. Originally titled How To Catch A Monster, Gosling's filmmaking debut Lost River has been in the works since late 2012, and today it made its global premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. So how are critics reacting? To call them "mixed" would be an understatement. Entertainment Weekly has collected a large sampling of professional opinions of Lost River in Tweet form, and while comparisons to the works of great filmmakers like David Lynch and Nicolas Winding Refn are common, some are outright harsh while others seemed to enjoy it quite a bit. Easily the most negative...

Paying back the favor, Macaulay Culkin rocked a t-shirt featuring Ryan Gosling – who happens to be donning a t-shirt of the “Home Alone” star.
If that’s too confusing for you, just take a look at the photo above! You may recall, we shared photos of “The Notebook” hunk showing his love for the child star last year when he stepped out in the tee featuring Culkin’s adorable mug.
The Pizza Underground star must have appreciated the shoutout, because he turned that photo into a piece of apparel and rocked it on Instagram writing, "Let's get meta #ryangosling #macaulayculkin."
Both actors got their start early on making appearances on “The All New Mickey Mouse Club” alongside Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears.

Ryan Gosling, James Franco and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are the hottest men in Hollywood. So why aren't they sticking to the path of previous pin-ups? Nicholas Barber on a new wave of actor-directors
Read enough interviews with Hollywood film stars and two themes keep cropping up. Theme one is that the star in question is working on a screenplay. Theme two is that they hope to become a director. Perhaps we can all take some comfort from the knowledge that, however much power and influence these stars may have, the vast majority never finish that screenplay or direct that film.
A few stars do get around to directing when they've passed their acting peak (Robert De Niro, Tommy Lee Jones, Dustin Hoffman). A few manage the transition once they've established themselves as A-listers (George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes). And some (Ben Affleck) turn to directing in desperation, following several years of lurching...

It’s hard to catch a big break, and some stars get theirs performing for little ones. Everyone knows now that Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera all got their start on The Mickey Mouse Club, but did you know there are more children’s shows that spawned Disney stars than just ye olde Mmc? Long before they were Disney starlets, Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato were adorable tykes on Barney & Friends? Or that Ben Affleck‘s first claim to fame wasn’t being an actor or a director; he was a passenger on The Voyage of the Mimi.
Sesame Street might be everyone’s first foray into television viewing, but for esteemed adult actors like Alan Arkin and Raul Julia, it was their first television paycheck! Jennifer Love Hewitt and Fergie once danced together on Kids Incorporated and Leonardo DiCaprio was reportedly fired from his first job on Romper Room.

Ryan Gosling and Britney Spears, sitting in a tree ... k-i-s-s-i-n-g. It's true, Ryan and Britney played kissing games during their formative years as Disney Mouseketeers. Gosling, whose film "The Place Beyond the Pines" hits theaters Friday (April 12) says Spears was his "girl next door."
"Britney was a sweetheart. She lived right above me," Ryan tells The Sunday Times. "The little girl I used to play basketball and spin the bottle with." Gosling appeared on "The All New Mickey Mouse Club" in the early 90's alongside Spears, Justin Timberlake, and Christina Aguilera. He says his mom and sister moved to Florida with him to support his role as Mouseketeer, but his dad disapproved and stayed behind -- a decision Ryan says led to his parents' divorce.

Ryan Gosling plays a motorcycle stuntman turned bank robber in "The Place Beyond The Pines," and in a new interview, the actor revealed it's a profession he always wanted to attempt.
“I’ve been thinking about a bank robbery my whole life, and I finally got to do it," the 32-year-old told the Telegraph. Gosling's bank robbery fantasy came as close to a reality as possible -- without the actor actually getting arrested, of course -- but it didn't quite live up to his fantasy.
“I’m there with the gun and I look down and people are just smiling,” he says of the first robbery scene they filmed. As Gosling explained, director Derek Cianfrance arranged to shoot the scene in one take using the bank's real customers and employees. “They were just enjoying the show and I think I spotted someone filming me on their camera phone as I robbed the place.

Good news, Ryan Gosling fans -- Buzzfeed dug up a video of the heartthrob actor in his teeny-bopping Mickey Mouse Club days.
The video (shown above) features an adorable pint-sized Gosling, side-stepping in an oversized all-white outfit and belting out a solo in the group's performance of "Cry For You."
Fellow Mickey Mouse club alum Justin Timberlake also takes his turn at the mic, exhibiting his trademark falsetto and a retro set of curls.
Timberlake has spoken about his Mickey Mouse Club friendship with Gosling, telling Ellen DeGeneres in 2011 that he was roommates with Gosling at the age of 11. "Funny enough, his mother had to keep her job in Canada the second year that we were on the television show and my mom was his guardian for like six months," Timberlake added.
Timberlake's former 'Nsync group member Jc Chasez also appears in the video, giving a strong solo. Chasez,...

There comes a time in every girl's life when she must decide which hard-bitten-yet-handsome gentleman from an upcoming cop drama she'd most like to take home to Mom and Dad. (Isn't there?) Now that the Jan. 11 release date of "Gangster Squad" is upon us, it's time to make the call: Is it Nick Nolte who will wait for you at the end of the perp walk aisle? Josh Brolin whose detective skills will equip him for a very, ahem, intimate inspection? Ryan Gosling who will meet a noir-style, gritty end at the barrel of a gun? (Or at the bottom of a long drop, not that we've thought about it too much.)
Yes, the time has come for Eff, Marry, Kill: "Gangster Squad" Edition.

Once a Mouseketeer, always a Mouseketeer!Christina Aguilera, who was a member of the "Mickey Mouse Club" from 1993-1994, returned to her roots last night ... by stepping out in a shirt with everybody's favorite rodent on it.But this shirt definitely wouldn't be up to Disney standards, as it was very low cut and full of holes that showed off Aguilera's red bra.The singer wore the Mickey shirt to the Samsung Galaxy Note II bash last night in Beverly Hills, where she was spotted with boyfriend Matthew Rutler.Christina continues to rock those bright pink extensions, which are slowly going higher and higher each time we see her. Oh Ok, Internet. As if we needed another reason to love Ryan Gosling. Before he became only the hottest thing ever, Gosling was a 12-year-old boy in a blue jean button down who had just booked a gig on Disney's The All New Mickey Mouse Club and thought it was "so neat." Watch the recently unearthed video of Gosling's very well-mannered interview on Canada Am, accompanied by vintage home video of Ryan flirting his way through an Elvis karaoke session and shimmying like a mad man in what appears to be a school show. And yes, his Canadian accent is on full display here. That's what we're talkin' aboot.

While Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears are snagging headlines for their reality show antics, let us not forget that J.C. Chasez is the Og Mmc judge, having been with America's Best Dance Crew since 2008.
Now in its seventh season, MTV's dance battle show is having its most unpredictable season yet and that's just one of the reasons J.C. is particularly jazzed about it. I caught up with him to find out what makes ABDC7 so special, what you'll never see on the show and what his approach to judging is.

J.C. Chasez: I didn't know what to expect from these crews, but I've been so pleasantly surprised by the caliber of talent. Overall, it seems like in seasons past, there were three crews from the beginning that people thought were going to win. But this year, almost every crew has the chance to win if...

Was this supposed to be a dig against Christina Aguilera? If so, it flopped.
"The Voice" contestant Tony Lucca told Zap2it last week that he planned to take his former "Mickey Mouse Club" costar Aguilera's criticism in stride. Her tone was harsh enough that fans rallied to his defense.
Instead of stepping out of the "Mickey Mouse Club" spotlight this week, though, Lucca decided to play up his connection to the 1990s kids' show that kicked off the careers of household names like Aguilera, Timberlake, Britney Spears, Ryan Gosling, and Keri Russell.
