At this point, I'm convinced Natasha Lyonne can do anything. The actor, writer, director, and producer is on a serious roll, starring in (and showrunning) the fantastic second season of the Netflix sci-fi series "Russian Doll" and starring in Rian Johnson's new Peacock series "Poker Face," but once upon a time she wasn't as famous and lost out on some pretty big roles. Lyonne has been acting since she was a child, with her first credited performance on "Pee-Wee's Playhouse" when she was just six years old, and that means she's been to enough auditions that she's probably lost count. Apparently, among those auditions were try-outs for the title role on the ABC comedy series "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and for Six on the NBC comedy series "Blossom," both of which would have been wildly different with Leone.

Natasha Lyonne is dishing on some iconic roles she was close to landing early in her career.
While on Thursday’s episode of Watch What Happens Live, host Andy Cohen asked the Poker Face star to name a role that another actress got that she thinks should have been hers. She quickly responded in a playful manner, “Oh, gosh, there’s a lot … I mean, how far back do you want to go?”
“Well, I didn’t get Six or Blossom. I didn’t get Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” she said, taking Cohen by surprise. Lyonne then added that she didn’t get a role in John Hughes’ 1991 film Curly Sue.
Cohen seemed to be most taken aback by the Orange Is the New Black actress saying she did not get the role of Six in the ’90s hit series Blossom. “Wow! I would have loved to see you as Six,...

During a pivotal scene in Gillian Robespierre's Landline, just out on DVD, a familiar song begins to play. Curious to figure out what it was, I quickly Shazamed it on my phone to discover that it was Angel Olsen's 2016 song "Sister." It is an epic song -- almost eight minutes long, discussing the longing nature of wanting to change. I was initially delighted to hear a song that resonated with me back when years ago. But why was a tune from the late 2010's playing in a film that takes place in 1995?
Landline is a film that is all about time. It is rooted firmly in the mid-90's with plenty of political, social, and pop culture references (Jenny Slate's Dana remarks that her and her fiancé rented Curly Sue from Blockbuster and that "it's a good film"). The use of "Sister," however, speaks...

Alisan Porter is back!
The season 10 winner of The Voice released her new single “Deep Water,” and on Tuesday night, she returned to the singing competition to make her primetime debut of the soulful ballad.
The former child star — she starred in John Hughes’ 1991 movie Curly Sue — caught up with People on Tueday. Porter, 35, dished on her new music, her tight-knit bond with former mentor Christina Aguilera and her life as a rock star mom.
Congrats on “Deep Water”! How did the song come together?
I had been wanting to go to Nashville for a really long time and finally.

Let me get this out of the way up front: I think Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 sci-fi action classic, RoboCop, is a perfect film. With its mix of brilliant social satire, comic book action, dystopian sci-fi, and insane violence—a brilliant blend of ’80s aesthetics, Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner’s sharp script, a perfect cast, and Paul Verhoeven’s particular brand of genius/madness. It is the kind of movie that cannot really be reproduced… though two sequels and a 2014 remake certainly gave it a shot. That each came up short in different ways comes as no surprise. It only offers proof of the original movie’s magical alchemy.
Though they are disappointing in comparison to RoboCop, both of its initial sequels—1990’s RoboCop 2, directed by Irvin Kershner, and the Fred Dekker-helmed RoboCop 3 from 1993—attempt to replicate different aspects of the original and are not without some amount of charm,...

A former child actor, Porter starred in commercials as a toddler, became the youngest winner on “Star Search” and soon after graduated to films and TV shows. Her biggest job came at age 9, starring as a young street-savvy vagrant who follows in the footsteps of her surrogate father (Jim Belushi) in John Hughes‘ 1991 family comedy “Curly Sue.” Also Read: Rae Dawn Chong Blames Spike Lee for 'Soul Man' Racial Stigma 30 Years Later The movie is chock full of adorable moments from the spirited.

Porter beat out Adam Wakefield to take home the coveted crown, and she said the moment was years in the making.

It's that time, people—time for The Voice to crown another champion. Which of the final four remaining singers will follow in the footsteps of season nine winner Jordan Smith? Was it initial frontrunner Alisan Porter, the former child actress (Curly Sue) with the sublime country-rock voice on Team Christina? Was it country crooner Adam Wakefield, the soulful Nashville songwriter on Team Blake? Was it preschool teacher Hannah Huston, the quirky educator with pop sensibilities on Team Pharrell? Or was it guitar god Laith Al-Saadi, the bluesy singer with the epic beard on Team Adam? Most importantly, since coaches Blake Shelton and Adam Levine have multiple wins under their belts and Pharrell Williams has...

Ever since Alisan Porter joined Christina Aguilera's The Voice team in the season 10 premiere (and was joined by a ton of similarly talented singers), it's been a very, very real possibility that this could be the season a female coach finally wins the show. And in the final moments of the season ten finale performance show, Porter brought her coach to tears. After her last remaining singer delivered a particularly moving performance of West Side Story's "Somewhere," Aguilera broke down. "If anybody deserves to take the cake and be the winner of The Voice, it's you, Alisan," she told the actress-turned-singer (yes, Porter played Curly Sue in the childhood classic). "Thank you so...

Season 10 of The Voice has proven to be full of serious talent. From Laith Al-Saadi's roaring, blue-sy melodies to Alisan Porter's unbelievably powerful vocals (which, by the way, never fail to keep us wanting more), some may think the outcome is somewhat up in the air.
However, there can only be one winner and we've put together a list of why we think Alison Porter – yes, little miss Curly Sue – will win Season 10 of The Voice come Tuesday.

“You’re still in the process of really improving a lot,” Adam said cheerily to Team Xtina’s Nick Hagelin, which, translated into Real Talk, would go something like, “Dude, you’ve got a long way to go.”
“That was super solid, Mary,” countered Xtina, describing Team Blake’s Mary Sarah with the most damning adjective she’ll allow herself to say on live television.

And the winner of this Knockout Round is… obvious!
Indeed, even if you were severely distracted during the final six-and-a-half* head-to-head showdowns of The Voice‘s tenth season — organizing your tax receipts or folding laundry or contemplating the reasons for Adam Levine’s cotton candy-hued tresses — the mismatches were screamingly obvious.

Those ugly words of vitriol you spat over the weekend about Miley Cyrus joining The Voice as a full-time, red-chair-occupying coach for Season 11?
We regret to inform you that you’re going to have to sprinkle ’em with cinnamon and sugar, then nom-nom-nom ’em. Because despite her array of questionably tailored, homemade clown costumes, the “Wrecking Ball” singer — who was serving as Special Advisor to all four teams during the Season 10 Knockout Rounds — offered more specific, actionable, insightful advice over the course of the episode than Adam, Pharrell, Blake and Xtina combined.

Directors’ trademarks is a series of articles that examines the “signatures” that filmmakers leave behind in their work. This month, we’re examining the trademark style and calling signs of John Huges as director.
John Hughes’ is one of the most influential filmmakers of the past few decades. His contributions as writer, director, and producer have created many well-loved and contemporary classic films. While his impact as a filmmaker in general overshadows his contributions just as a director, there are many commonalities between the films he directed versus the films he only contributed a script. As such, the trademarks considered below are meant to represent the films directed by John Hughes, but they can easily also apply to the films he contributed to, but did not direct.
