To all you hopefuls holding on to the prospect of winning the lottery even once, you might want to befriend Rosa Dominguez to see if her luck will rub off on you—because she just had one of the most legendary weeks of all time.
While on a recent drive home to California from Arizona, 19-year-old Dominguez bought lottery tickets while pumping gas in San Luis Obispo County, California. When she scratched off the Power 5’s ticket she purchased for $5, Dominguez discovered she had won the top prize of $555,555. “I was so nervous I just wanted to cry,” Dominguez told officials from the California Lottery.

Who needs boys when you have your best girlfriend to cheer you up? After reportedly calling it quits with fellow English star Chris Clark, Little Mix's Jesy Nelson hit the beach in Miami on Thursday with her bandmate Perrie Edwards. The two enjoyed some fun in the sun as they walked around sipping on drinks and holding hands. Aside from showing off their sweet friendship, they also flaunted their incredible figures as they strolled through the sand wearing matching Calvin Klein tops and cutoff shorts. No telling whether another jam-worthy breakup track like "Shout Out to My Ex" will come out of Jesy's new relationship status, but we are certainly loving the girls' incredible bond. While it would be a bit unfair to say that The Walking Dead is in trouble, it’s certainly far from its heyday. Season 7 got off to an electrifying, if controversial, start, but since then it’s been a rather dull journey, full of boring subplots, extended runtimes that wasted their extra minutes and too much focus being placed on characters that we just don’t care about. A few truly exciting moments have punctuated the first half of season 7, but mostly, it’s been quite underwhelming.
Thankfully, the cast and crew have noticed this and are working towards turning things around for when the show returns to AMC in February. For one, we’ve been promised more levity in the second half of the season, which will no doubt please many, and the last episode before The Walking Dead went on hiatus, “Hearts Still Beating,” teed up what looks to be an exciting,...

Donald Glover intended “Atlanta” to show people what it feels like to be black, and after 10 unpredictable but glorious episodes, the result is inconclusive but hopeful. The show is masterful in eliciting a range of feelings — a combination of joy and horror, tension and relief — but none more so than surprise. But can you now say you know what it feels like to be black? No, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

What “Atlanta” does instead is use tonal shifts, wholly unanticipated events and surreal elements to create such an atmosphere of subversion that it’s unsettling. And this is turn creates an openness in the audience to experience what comes next without expectation. To use a food metaphor, the acids in a marinade prepare the protein in the steak to...

Dustin Diamond is officially an inmate ... turning himself into a Wisconsin jail Friday night. Diamond reported to the Ozaukee County Jail to serve out a 4 month sentence. You'll remember, Diamond was convicted back in May for stabbing a man in a bar on Xmas of 2014. Lucky for Dustin, the judge only hit him with 2 misdemeanors and dropped the far more serious felonies. Not so good news ... Dustin checked in after dinner time at the jail.

If ever there was to be a Mt. Rushmore of modern horror, there’s no question that the face of Larry Fessenden would get prominent placement. One of the patron saints of indie horror, Fessenden is a true auteur and a true original whose incredible career is now being celebrated with the Scream Factory release of The Larry Fessenden Collection, containing four of his films and hours of bonus features that help illuminate just what a vital voice Fessenden has been in the genre for more than three decades. This is one of the best horror releases of the year.
Fessenden (whose Glass Eye Pix has been around since the mid-’80s, helping produce films including The House of the Devil, I Sell the Dead, Stake Land and Late Phases) has built a career on twisting and subverting the conventions of classic horror films and filtering them through his own distinctive lens.

Scream Factory and IFC Midnight have paired up to present an inspired disc set for The Larry Fessenden Collection, an assortment of four of the director’s most notable genre films. Migrating between a number of notable projects as a character actor (he usually appears as some peripheral, grizzled weirdo, showing up in titles by Scorsese, Neil Jordan, and Kelly Reichardt, amongst others), he’s also a noted producer, editor, screenwriter, and cinematographer. But Fessenden’s made his most striking impression with a growing body of genre oriented independent directorial efforts. Usually prizing strong characterization amidst situations of mounting dread, Fessenden seems fascinated with testing the strengths and inherent weaknesses of mankind, and it’s probably easiest to label his filmography as environmental horror.
Out of Fessenden’s own production company Glass Eye Pix, 1991’s No Telling (or the Frankenstein Complex) melds motifs of Mary Shelley’s famed mad scientist with modern animal experimentation.

Sam is a lonely, drunk New Yorker who finds comfort in a mysterious woman’s fangs in Habit. A family heads into the Catskills for a vacation but finds local conflict, tragedy, and legend in Wendigo. I clearly don't know enough about comics, because when it was announced last night that Spider-Man would be joining Marvel's Cinematic Universe (McU) while also remaining in control of Sony Pictures the Internet went wild. Why exactlyc I'm not sure, but it truly seems comic book fans young and old just can't get enough of these movies to the point any news will keep them up at night, speculating as to what it could mean for movies that won't be hitting theaters for several years. Then again, you may be getting your next Spidey fix a little sooner than that. Comic book go-to source extraordinaire, The Wall Street Journal is reporting Spider-Man will make his first appearance in the McU with Captain America: Civil War, a rumor that's been floating around for some time, though until now it didn't seem to carry too much weight. Though the fallout from the hacked Sony emails from the likes of Sony co-chairman Amy Pascal, producer Scott Rudin and even writer Aaron Sorkin has been unprecedented, it turns out that not all the previously private emails require an apology.
At least, not when you're the already super well-liked Channing Tatum and George Clooney, whose leaked emails over the weekend had their fans more amused than angry.

There are no shortage of independent horror filmmakers but Larry Fessenden is the filmmaker who puts the emphasis on the "indie" part of the equation. As a writer/director, he's take the classic horror genres and turned them inside out. No Telling was his take on Frankenstein as an environmental drama, Habit, a vampire story set in the drug addict culture of New York City, Wendigo, a monster movie of myth and imagination and The Last Winter, an eco-twist on the ghost story in the culture of big oil. Director, writer, producer, and actor Larry Fessenden has slogged his way to becoming a prominent force in the horror genre over the course of more than two decades. His first film to really start turning heads was the provocative thriller No Telling (1991). He secured his place on the horror film map by writing, directing, and starring in the gritty vampire nightmare Habit (1995), which was followed by Wendigo (2001) and The Last Winter (2006).
His acting roles have ranged from brief glimpses in films like Martin Scorsese's Bringing Out The Dead (1999), Brad Anderson's Session 9 (2001), Jim Jarmusch's Broken Flowers (2005), and Neil Jordan’s The Brave One (2007), to leading roles in Glenn McQuaid's I Sell The Dead (2008) and Chad Crawford Kinkle's Jug Face (2013). Fessenden can also be spotted in this year's You’re Next, directed by Adam Wingard, Hellbenders, directed by J.T. Petty, and We Are What We Are,...

How do you say “twerking” in Dutch? Fresh off of her tongue-wagging, eyebrow-raising performance on the MTV Video Music Awards, Miley Cyrus will appear in Amsterdam for the 2013 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs). Also read: Justin Timberlake Defends Miley Cyrus: ‘It Was the VMAs, What Did You Guys Expect?’ Cyrus joins other previously announced performers such as Katy Perry and The Killers, neither of whom have stirred the moral outrage of a nation recently quite like former Disney Channel princess has. No telling if Cyrus will similarly shock sensibilities at the Ema — Amsterdam has a reputation of being pretty loosey-goosey.

Larry Fessenden is best known for directing a series of spooky, atmospheric horror movies with a lot on their minds. "No Telling" was an environmentalist missive in Frankenstein's monster clothing. His masterful "Habit" toyed with the vampirism-as-disease metaphor while also incorporating themes involving urban isolation. "Wendigo" explored the darker pathways of childhood with its allegorical monster. "The Last Winter" envisioned global warming as a beast on the verge of taking us all. Working on his own terms while mentoring similarly individualistic horror filmmakers like Ti West, Fessenden has remained one of the genre's truly modern visionaries. Given that track record, the idea that he would work on a made-for-tv movie produced by Chiller, the sister channel of the Syfy Network, at first sounds a little off. Yet "Beneath," a killer fish movie that premiered at the Stanley Film Festival in Colorado on Friday ahead of its summer release, certainly fits the Fessenden oeuvre even.

Special Mention: The Fake Trailers from Grindhouse (2007, USA): The four fake trailers featured in the otherwise disappointing Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino double-feature: Machete by Robert Rodriguez, Werewolf Women of the SS by Rob Zombie, Thanksgiving by Eli Roth and Don’t by Edgar Wright-are all very entertaining trips down horror/exploitation film memory lane and are easily the best part of the film.

2) Other Notable Horror Films Of The 2000’s:
This list focuses on films that are partially successful and even touch on brilliance at times but ultimately don’t pull everything together to fully deliver on their promise.
Intacto (Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, 2001, Spain):
This film about a group of people blessed with supernatural good luck has a great premise, several great scenes-the revelation of the plane crash early in the film, the blindfolded race through the trees and the Russian roulette climax-plus the welcome presence of...

The line-up for 2011′s annual FrightFest in London’s Leicester Square has just been announced and it’s another amazing year.
Opening with the Guillermo Del Toro-produced Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark and closing up with Julian Gilbey’s A Lonely Place to Die there are plenty of thrillers, shockers and gore-fuelled splattefests, with premieres of some big genre films.
Robin Hardy’s The Wicker Tree, the companion piece to his classic The Wicker Man, is having its European premiere and Andy Nyman’s dark thriller The Glass Man goes before an audience for the first time.
Chillerama, a horror anthology from directors Adam Rifkin, Tim Sullivan, Adam Green, and Joe Lynch, was hinted at last year’s festival and now comes before the FrightFest faithful with ludicrous and brilliant titles such as The Diary Of Anne Frankenstein, I Was A Teenage Werebear and Zom-b-Movie on offer.

Writer/director Adam Barnick made his first impression on genre fans back in 2007 with his surrealistic vision of conformity, Mainstream, a short film that was released as part of Fangoria’s Blood Drive II. After Mainstream, Barnick went on to produce some of the most masterful behind-the-scenes featurettes for other indie favorites including Grace and Frozen and is now currently working on his documentary What is Scary? as well as a music video for singer/songwriter Rivulets.
We recently caught up with Barnick who gave us a look at some of his favorite independent horror flicks that may not be on the radar of a lot of genre fans out there.
1. Habit (1997)
I saw this film at the best or worst time, depending on how you look at it. Having recently moved to New York City after struggling to return there post-school, I lost my job and my girlfriend in the span of two weeks,...

The stellar I Sell the Dead (review here) is finally hitting DVD and Blu-ray on March 30th, and in honor of the occasion Dread Central will be running a series of interviews with several members of the cast and crew. First up is writer/director Glenn McQuaid.
Elaine Lamkin: First, I have to say how surprised I was when during the behind-the-scenes featurette on the DVD someone mentioned that The Scratcher pub in the East Village, which doubled for the interiors of The Fortune of War pub in I Sell the Dead, is owned by Irish actor, Karl Geary, whom I interviewed for his role in The Burrowers! The film world, particularly the indie film world, can be very small.
Glenn McQuaid: It's a small world all right, especially when you're working in the horror genre. Karl's a fellow Dubliner, too, but it's through his acting that I know him.

Now we have some good news and we have some bad news for you from THR. Good news first; Actor, producer, writer, director and all around great genre guy Larry Fessenden has been signed to direct a fairly high profile genre film. So what's the bad news you ask? Said film is the American remake of Juan Antonio Bayona's The Orphanage. There's more good news on this one though, so hang in there. Guillermo del Toro returns to produce (he produced the original Spanish version of the film) and apparently handpicked Fessenden for the job. Fessenden may not be a name that all of you are familiar with, but he has a long history within our genre, directing art house horror flicks like Wendigo, Habit, No Telling and...

The film is being produced by Contrafilm's Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson. Fessenden's credits include 2006's horror "Last Winter" as well as 1991' "No Telling. The original film was directed by producer Guillermo del Toro's protege Juan Antonio Bayona and was both an eerie and touching film. The story told of Laura (Belén Rueda from The Sea Inside) who purchases her beloved childhood orphanage with dreams of restoring and reopening the long abandoned facility as a place for disabled children. Checking in with a series of post-show reports from our recent Chicago stop on the 2009 Weekend of Horrors Tour, is Dave Canfield. First up is a look at the 2009 horror films showcased as a part of Fangoria's Future Fears. Check out Dave's report, along with many of the trailers after the jump!
Future Fears ran all three days, offering attendees the chance to catch a little over an hours worth of trailers for upcoming horror films. If the group I saw is any indication 2009 is going to be a great year for horror and gore freaks.
The hour kicked off with the trailer for the much anticipated remake The Last House On The Left. I’ve seen this film and it’s worthy of the buzz, carrying the exploitation energy of the original into the new millennium and offering a powerful meditation on how quickly we can dehumanize ourselves and...
