All of the week's hot casting news in one fell swoop ...
Ewan McGregor is looking to play the bad guy again, following his sleazy turn earlier this year in "Haywire." Deadline reports that the "Trainspotting" star is set to star in "Son of a Gun," an Australia crime thriller that chronicles the complex relationship between a notorious criminal (McGregor) and his young protege. That's not all for McGregor — he'll also be joining Kate Hudson for the showbiz comedy, "Born to Be King," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Penelope Cruz is going to teach us about clothes ... and murder! The "Bandidas" beauty is in talks to star in "Gucci," a drama about the Italian family behind the legendary clothing brand in which she would play Patrizia Reggiani, who was jailed for 29 years for allegedly ordering the 1995 murder of her ex-husband and heir to the family empire, Maurizio Gucci.

According to Deadline, the second season of Magic City will be adding two pivotal figures to its already luxurious world. James Caan and Esai Morales have signed on to enter the world of Miami gangsters and hotel dons, with each role set to be recurring. Caan will be playing Sy Berman, the head of the Chicago mob and one of the few men that can control Ben Diamond. The two have had a long-standing father-son dynamic, but Berman has a connection to Lily that might end their friendship once and for all.
Morales, meanwhile, will be playing a former Cuban rebel named Carlos Ruiz that once fought alongside Castro, though he is now trying to liberate his country. While his connection to the rest of the cast has yet to be unveiled, I wouldn't be surprised for him to have some type of familiarity with Vera; Vera made it pretty...

DC Comics has already had a large job exodus from New York to Los Angeles, and now there are signs that what’s left may have to pack up soon, as well as the rest of Time Warner. Deadline Hollywood has the story:
CEO Jeff Bewkes told staffers in an email that the company’s preparing to evaluate “our office footprint in the New York metropolitan area and develop a long-range plan to meet our future needs.” The team leading that process — to be run by Chief Financial and Administrative Officer John Martin and Global Real Estate Svp Tom Santiago — probably won’t make a decision until the end of 2012. Then it could take years to implement. The corporate ranks and cable channels including CNN probably will stay in the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle; the company owns about 1 million square feet in the building. But Time Warner leases...

Every once in a blue moon, Hollywood dishes up a comeback story so amazing it seems like something out of a … well, a movie.
After succeeding as a child actor in classics like "Bad News Bears," Jackie Earle Haley couldn't faltered in the transition to adult roles, and wallowed in obscurity in Texas for a good decade-and-a-half. In 2006, he was plucked out of actor purgatory for "All The King's Men" and an Oscar-nominated turn in "Little Children," and the rest is history.
Now he's hit the pinnacle, working with the grand puba of directors, Steven Spielberg, in the bearded one's upcoming biopic "Lincoln."
According to Deadline, Haley will portray Alexander Stephens opposite Daniel Day Lewis as President Stovepipe Hat.
Besides looking a great deal like Stephens, the Vice President of the Confederacy during the Civil War, the role presents another opportunity for Haley to sink his teeth into the dark side of human nature.

Airlock Alpha has the first report from the Battlestar panel at Comic-Con. Richard Hatch, Kevin Grazier, Michael Nankin and Lili Bordan were there, and Michael Taylor had to skip because of surgery. Get better soon, Michael Taylor.
Here is what is happening with Blood and Chrome:
The pilot is not expected to be completed until at least October, especially since the sets were extremely minimal, Bordan said. Hatch told the crowd that Syfy plans to air "Blood & Chrome" as a movie event first, and a backdoor pilot, similar to what was done with "Caprica." It looks like the network is not spending the money to do a miniseries, like it did with "Battlestar Galactica."Also, unless there was a misunderstanding at the panel, they are/were exploring the possibility of showing it in 3D. Read the whole article for more details.

To start with the good news, Sasha Roiz will be back on TV every week this fall. His new show, Grimm, has been picked up to series by NBC. Spoiler TV has the first still from the pilot, which was written and exec produced by David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, and we'll probably get more details about the show after the upfronts. For now, here are the basics, from TV Line:
A fantastical drama, Grimm stars David Giuntoli (Privileged) as a detective whose mission is to protect humans living in a world where Grimm’s Fairy Tale characters actually exist. Silas Weir Mitchell (Prison Break), Sasha Roiz (Caprica) and Kate Burton also star. The bad news from NBC is that 17th Precinct didn't make the cut. Not much to add that hasn't been said at the Battlestar Blog.
David E. Kelley's take on Wonder Woman hasn't been picked up either.

NBC's magical pilot "17th Precinct" is attracting quite the talent. Already, "Battlestar Galactica's" James Callis, Jamie Bamber and Tricia Helfer have signed up for starring roles in the series, as has "The West Wing's" Stockard Channing, with "Smallville's" Kristin Kreuk signing for a recurring role. Now, the series has added another notable name to its line-up ... Esai Morales. "17th Precinct" has been described as an ensemble cop drama with a science-fiction twist, and revolves around crime in a town where magic rules science. According to Deadline, Morales will play Lt. Liam Butterfield, one of the police officers charged with keeping the peace in the enchanted town of Excelsior. Unlike other police departments, the law enforcement in the town has to deal with magically-based ...

What the spiders collected this week:
Bear McCreary has won the Ifmca award for Best Original Score for Television for his work on Human Target. It's his second win in a row. Last year, he nabbed one for Battlestar. Huge congratulations!
Jane Espenson and Drew Z. Greenberg will take part in a panel discussion on TV writing in Los Angeles on March 27. More details here.
Blogcritics.org has an eight-page interview with Kath Lingenfelter (Caprica 1x05, "There Is Another Sky"), who is working on House these days. Snippet:
How did you come to write for the series?
When I first started in television, it was as an assistant to Jason Katims, who at the time was running a show called Roswell on the now defunct WB. The [show’s] staff at that time included Katims, Ronald D. Moore (who went on to adapt Battlestar Galactica for SyFy); Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts...

Announced just moments ago… film distributor Motion Film Group has reportedly picked up distribution rights to Rashaad Ernesto Green’s Sundance 2011 entry, and his feature film debut, Gun Hill Road.
Deadline says Motion Film Group paid “low seven-figures for worldwide sales and distribution rights” to Rashaad’s film, which premiered Monday, in the U.S. Dramatic Competition, with the plan being to take the film to Cannes, to sell international rights, and then release the film stateside, in theaters, this summer.
The coming-of-age drama is set in the Bronx, and stars Esai Morales as a macho ex-con, who returns to his Bronx family home, after a three-year prison sentence, to learn that his son Michael (played by Harmony Santana) is transgendered.
Judy Reyes and Isiah Whitlock co-star.
Ron Simons of SimonSays Entertainment produced the film; he also produced Night Catches Us, a 2010 Sundance selection last year, which was acquired by Magnolia Pictures.

Caprica 1x16, "The Heavens Will Rise," airs tonight at 10 pm on Space. Both this week's episode and the next one, "Here Be Dragons," were directed by Michael Nankin.
Beyond that, there isn't much info out there about the last few eps, but there has been a lot of speculation about some massive plot points that happen toward the end of the season, so whether you are DVRing, downloading, waiting for the DVD, or waiting for Syfy to air the episodes, if you don't like reading major spoilers, stay away from reviews and discussion forums. Great choice there for most people: either steal or be spoiled. Thanks for that too, Syfy.
That said, Space has posted the synopsis for "The Heavens Will Rise:"
The Graystones (Eric Stoltz & Paula Malcomson) search New Cap City for Zoe (Alessandra Torresani), while Lacy (Magda Apanowicz) uncovers a mystery about the Cylons. Clarice (Polly Walker) learns the truth about Amanda.

Some great news today: Syfy has announced that the second half of season one will start airing in October, as originally planned. Episode 1x10, "Unvanquished," will air on Tuesday, October 5, at 10 Pm, right after Stargate Universe. Sanctuary, on the other hand, got shifted back to Fridays, but at least we'll see their resident werewolf Ryan Robbins in four episodes of Caprica (starting with 1x11, "Retribution") when the show returns. In October.
No word yet on whether the show will get picked up for a second season, but Deadline writes that a reduced season 2 order is still a possibility.
Here is the first preview for "Unvanquished," with Deadwalker Zoe kicking some virtual ass:
The episode was directed by Eric Stoltz. David Eick said on one of the podcasts that he calls it the "Taxi Driver" episode (reasons to be determined in about a month). Also, I'm pretty sure that this will...
