Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) may have moved up in the world, but she seems to have regressed when it comes to her personality. In fact, day by day, she starts to resemble another spoiled and power-hungry despot that we’ve seen on “Game of Thrones” before: Her late son, Joffrey (Jack Gleeson).
This would explain so much, though. While her kids Myrcella and Tommen were kind of sweet (perhaps taking after Jaime, who is a fool for love and shows signs of a conscience), Joffrey was the bad egg, rotten to the core, and without any redeeming qualities. At the time, he had seemed like an anomaly, the twisted result of the DNA lottery that comes with inbreeding. But now that Cersei the Queen Mother has become the sole monarch, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Protector of Westeros, she’s been exhibiting signs that make it clear...

Barbara Crampton has been a mainstay in the horror community for more than thirty years, but she’d rather not be called a “Scream Queen.” In a recent essay, Crampton explained that for her, the term is reductive and dismisses the nuances and hard work that go into her roles. I can understand if she wants her legacy to carry more complexity than a catchy nickname, especially considering the wide range of roles that Crampton has contributed to the horror genre. In the past, she played a medical student hounded by reanimated corpses in Re-Animator, and more recently, she portrayed a grieving mother haunted by her past (as well as actual ghosts) in We Are Still Here, as well as the sinister host of a VHS board game in Beyond the Gates.
Crampton broke out in the 1980s with frequent collaborators Stuart Gordon and Jeffrey Combs to adapt H.P. Lovecraft...

In the wake of the success of Joe Dante’s classic Gremlins in the mid-’80s, movie theaters were flooded with low-budget horror movies about pint-sized creatures wreaking havoc on unsuspecting humans. No one took better advantage of this phenomenon than Charles Band, who would build a dynasty of films about little monsters first with his Empire Pictures and later with Full Moon Features—everything from Ghoulies to Puppet Master, Demonic Toys to Dolls. One of Empire’s first fantasy horror films about little monsters, 1986’s Troll makes its HD debut on Scream Factory’s Blu-ray alongside its notorious sequel, Troll 2, often considered one of the worst movies ever made.
The original Troll, directed by makeup effects legend John Carl Buechler in his feature debut, tells the story of the Potter family, recent transplants to a San Francisco apartment complex who begin to notice strange goings-on in their building,...

Probably one of the more overlooked Stephen King adaptations has got to be Tom McLoughlin’s Sometimes They Come Back which first aired on network TV in 1991. A film that I don’t think I fully appreciated until I got a little older (and much wiser), this revenge tale is centered around a troubled teacher (Tim Matheson) who is haunted by a gang of greasers who killed his brother and were obliterated in the attack as well, some 27 years after the tragedy. A creepy yet poignant exploration of loss and regret, Sometimes They Come Back is truly a film I think only gets better with time.
For Sometimes They Come Back, Matheson was joined onscreen by a talented ensemble featuring Brooke Adams (Invasion of the Body Snatchers ’78), Robert Rusler (A Nightmare on Elm Street 2), Nicholas Sadler (Twister), William Sanderson (Blade Runner), and Bentley Mitchum (Demonic Toys). The beginning of May every year means one thing to me and thousands of other horror fanatics around the world. For the past ten years, it’s meant we’ve arrived at another annual Texas Frightmare Weekend. It’s the only event in the Lone Star State that brings together genre actors and artists that we not only grew up watching but are still enjoying on the silver screen and television. 2015’s convention lineup is no different as we welcome actors from Scream, The Craft, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2, and Phantasm to name a few. The terrifying fun kicks off this coming Friday, May 1st at the Hyatt Regency located on the grounds of the Dfw Airport.
I’ve attended Texas Frightmare Weekend for the past few years and only regrettably missed it once. It’s one of the best conventions in the South. All the celebrity guests are...

Puppet Master #1
Written by Shawn Gabborin
Art by Michela Da
Published by Action Lab
For those of you unfamiliar with the series, Puppet Master is a product of Charles Band and Full Moon Entertainment. The studios produced ten Puppet Master films, and one unofficial crossover with Band’s other creations Demonic Toys. The series was also converted into two limited series produced by Eternity Comics. The current incarnation is written by Shawn Gabborin, and produced by Action Lab’s Danger Zone imprint.
The series opens with a homeless man squatting in the Bodega Bay Inn, closed for years after the events of the films. The homeless man is having a conversation with a mysterious someone, hidden off panel. Mid-conversation, however, Toulon’s living puppets arrive. Torch unleashes a jet of flame and roasts the man alive. The next day a group of teenagers arrive at the hotel, intending to break...

Shared, multi-franchise universes are all the rage right now, with many studios jumping on board to milk the cash cow. Cinelinx takes a look back at the five best combine universes in film.
The Avengers have made shared universes the big film craze of recent years. DC/Warner Bros. is planning to copy Marvel/Disney’s unified universe success with their own cross-franchise world, anchored by the Justice League. Disney is also spreading out its Star Wars universe, with annual solo films alternating between the main franchise and spin-offs featuring characters like Obi-Wan, Yoda and Boba Fett. Universal Studios has begun building their own monster-verse, starting with Dracula Untold. Fox is planning to merge their X-Men/Fantastic Four franchises. Paramount is looking at sequels and spin-offs to the Transformers series, making it into a multi-franchise story. Sony is toying with the idea of a combined universe built around the legend of Robin Hood,...

We recently reported that the Mistress of the Dark is returning soon to host horror flicks in Hulu’s 13 Nights of Elvira. Now you can get a taste of the humor to come, as Hulu and Brainstorm Media have provided us with a clip in which Elvira offers witty remarks on 1985’s Trancers and Oscar winner Helen Hunt before imagining what she would say upon winning an Academy Award.
Cassandra Peterson stars as the legendary horror hostess on Hulu’s 13 Nights of Elvira, streaming exclusively on the site beginning October 19th and running through Halloween. Each night Elvira will introduce a fright film and offer occasional comedic commentary—a setup similar to her Movie Macabre performances. Here’s the official schedule:
Cannibal Women In The Avocado Jungle of Death (1989) Sunday, Oct. 19 Puppet Master (1989) Monday, Oct. 20 Demonic Toys (1992) Tuesday, Oct. 21 Hobgoblins (1988) Wednesday, Oct. 22 The Gingerdead Man (2005) Thursday, Oct. 23 Dollman (1991) Friday, Oct.

For as long as there are horror and sci-fi movies of, shall we say, questionable quality there will be...Elvira. The Mistress of the Dark returns to the small screen in a new Hulu series called 13 Nights of Elvira and this time, she'll be poking fun at a new crop of films with her usual flavor of humor.
The titles include Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death, Puppet Master, Demonic Toys, Hobgoblins, The Gingerdead Man, Dollman, Trancers, Oblivion, Shrunken Heads, Hideous, Evil Bong, Seedpeople and Night of the Living Dead.

Hulu’s heart is on fire for Elvira. The Mistress of Dark is headed to the subscription-based and (perhaps soon-to-be slightly less) ad-supported “premium streaming TV destination” for a brand new series this Halloween season. 13 Nights of Elvira will feature Cassandra Peterson once again suited up in what very well may be the original stereotypical sexy girl’s Halloween costume to reprise her dual roles of Alistair Cooke and Roger Ebert for the B grade horror movie set. The program is a streaming iteration of Peterson’s cult classic Elvira’s Movie Macabre (which is also currently available on Hulu), and will feature pithy intros, and poignant, punny commentary from the self-proclaimed Personification of Instant Gratification. Elvira will playfully praise and skewer the following terrifically terrible flicks on the daily starting October 19: Cannibal Women In The Avocado Jungle of Death, Puppet Master, Demonic Toys, Hobgoblins, The Gingerdead Man, Dollman,...

The 1992 Full Moon flick Doctor Mordrid starring Jeffrey Combs was originally intended to be a Doctor Strange movie. Unfortunately, the rights reverted back to Marvel before Charles Band could get the film made.
With an actual Doctor Strange movie in the works, it seems fitting Band would give his pseudo-take on the character the Blu-ray treatment.
Re-Animator’s Jeffrey Combs dons his finest Doctor Strange lounge-wear to play enigmatic interdimensional sorcerer/New York landlord Dr. Anton Mordrid, sworn to protect our world by guarding the gates of the fourth dimension from his mortal enemy, the diabolical warlock Kabul (Brian Thompson, "The X-Files"), while also finding the time to for a little romance with a pretty police research consultant tenant (Yvette Nipar, “Robocop: The Series”).

Released at the height of the straight to video techno-horror phase that rode in on the coat-tails of The Lawnmower Man and also saw the release of films such as Evolver and Brainscan, Arcade was, I think, unfairly overlooked, at least in the UK, at the time due to poor distribution, a lack of big-name stars (unlike Brainscan which had a post-T2 Edward Furlong, the biggest stars in Arcade were A Christmas Story’s Peter Billingsley and St:tng’s John De Lancie), and effects that – even though they were apparently redone after the film was completed – did not compare to other CGI-heavy films at the time.

Brick Bardo (Thomerson) is a traveller from outer space who is forced to land on Earth. Though regular sized on his home planet, he is doll-sized here on Earth,...

David Goyer has come a long way since penning the screenplay for Full Moon's Demonic Toys, and he's been a real busy dude of late. What's next for the powerhouse writer? He's headed to The Breach, and full details await ye!
THR reports that Lionsgate has picked up an adaptation of Patrick Lee's sci-fi thriller novel Breach, which Goyer is attached to direct. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing with Justin Rhodes writing the script.
The story centers on a corrupt ex-cop who is trying to get his life back in order when he discovers a crashed plane in the Alaska wilderness. The first lady is among those dead in the wreckage. That sets off an adventure featuring a beautiful survivor, assassins, a secret organization, alien technology and an end-of-the-world scenario.

The headline says it all. Expect more and more classic Godzilla titles to find their way to Blu-ray in the coming months as the May release of the big budget American reboot approaches.
Even King Kong is getting some hi-def lovin’ thanks to the King of the Monsters' resurgence.
King Kong vs. Godzilla may not ever get critical respect, but it has more than earned its status as one of the all-time great b-movies. The forerunner to the Alien vs. Predator, Freddy vs. Jason, Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys, and Batman vs. Superman of today, the King of the Monsters and the 8th Wonder of the World squared off for the one and only time in this 1963 Toho monsterpiece.

The latest release from 88 Films’ Grindhouse Collection label, Laserblast is a very early Charles Band production that, for fans of 80s Dtv productions, is probably one of the most notoriously “bad” movies to come from the Full Moon head honcho. Notorious in so much that the cover art for the VHS release (also present on this DVD) should be in the bad movie hall of fame… And so should some of the acting!
For those interested in a plot, Laserblast tells the story of Billy Duncan, a put-upon teenage loner who, after being bullied by two local teens and given a speeding ticket by two police deputies, wanders into the desert and discovers a laser...

It’s been nine years since we last saw Chucky, and since making his debut in “Child’s Play” in 1988, he's cornered the market on killer pint-sized dolls. Sure there have been other contenders for the title like “Puppet Master” or “Demonic Toys,” but they never had the same absurd charm as Chucky. And while his later films were laugh-out-loud bad, his presence has been sorely missed in the horror community. However, if history has taught us anything, it’s that you can’t keep a good horror villain down for long and Chucky is no different. The killer doll is making his grand return later this year in “Curse of Chucky” and we have the first trailer down below. Director Don Mancini (the man behind the original “Child’s Play”) is returning to the director’s seat for this direct-to-dvd sequel which unites the original voice of Chucky, Brad Dourif,...

Ron checks out the first episode of Starz's newest historical adventure series, Da Vinci's Demons...
When looking to launch a new television series of any sort, the first thing you need to have is a protagonist that people are interested in. In the case of Da Vinci's Demons, a swaggering co-production of the Starz Network in the United States and BBC Worldwide, that box is checked but good. Indeed, the centerpiece of Da Vinci's Demons is Leonardo Da Vinci, one of history's most fascinating characters, albeit not one known for sexcapades and intrigues.
In the real world, Da Vinci was a true Renaissance man before the term was invented, a polymath who excelled at engineering, painting, sculpting, architecture, philosophy, mathematics, music, anatomy, geology, cartography, botany, writing, and pretty much any other pursuit he put his considerable mind towards conquering. He shares these traits with the fictional Da Vinci,...

While films that pit notorious horror icons together to ‘face off’ are far from classic cinema, there is no denying that they can be fun if taken as the mindless entertainment they are intended to be. When Freddy vs. Jason was released, it surpassed expectations by grossing over $80 million domestically. The film almost spawned a sequel, Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash. The follow up never came to fruition, since Sam Raimi wanted to maintain the rights to the Evil Dead franchise. A year later, we saw another epic pairing with Avp: Alien vs. Predator, which also grossed an estimated $80+ million. Then, in 2007, we saw Avpr: Alien vs. Predator: Requiem hit the market. And, of course, who could forget the Oscar contender (sarcasm) that was Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys.
There are plenty of hoops to jump through in order for studios to bring icons from different franchises together to duke it out.

As a child of the 80′s, the video store was my second home. There were a few shops here in St. Louis that carried some big box titles and among them, I always remembered Wizard Video. One of Wizard Video’s most notorious releases was I Spit on Your Grave. In the past few years, VHS tapes have become a collector’s item of sorts. Some people I know go crazy and try and collect all the VHS tapes they can find. I am a bit more selective with what I pick up (I tend to go for big boxes and releases that have some nostalgia for me). There is no doubt that there is still a market in VHS. Is it the best format to watch a film, no. However, there is a certain allure to watch a film on VHS. It feels more organic and feels dynamic and...

It’s officially Christmas Eve. That means that it’s officially the scariest damn night of the year. You should be afraid, but I suppose if the apocalypse didn’t get you what’s an obese man trying to fit down a chimney with a child labor law violation or two gonna do to you? Welcome to It Came From 1980x. We’ve been following the “evolution” of the Silent Night Deadly Night series starting with a review of the first two movies re-released as a double feature by Anchor Bay and then moving on to the later three sequels that really have jack and shit to do with the rest of the series. That doesn’t mean that we dislike them although my personal preference on the third installment have been documented interwebz wide. This is the final entry in the franchise prior to the reboot/reimaging/remake that...

With the recent announcement of Zombies vs. Gladiators, Amazon Studios' upcoming Clive Barker project, it's official: All you need to make a movie these days is a script whose title is composed of two nouns separated by a "vs."
This approach to moviemaking might seem simplistic and/or lazy, but it has one major thing going for it — everything you need to know about the product film is in the title. And that's a godsend to a production company's marketing department.
Obviously, this strategy must work, because producers are returning repeatedly to the Well of Versus. To illustrate my point, the following is a partial list of "vs." films:
Monsters vs. Aliens
Mega Python vs. Gatoroid
Dinocroc vs. Supergator
Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys
Eagle vs. Shark
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Alien vs. Predator
Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem
Freddy vs. Jason

I just bought one of those Midnight Horror movie packs for $5 at Walmart. I mostly bought it for Demonic Toys, but it also features the Asylum film I Am Omega. Believe it or not it was actually better than Will Smith's I Am Legend. It features the guy from Iron Chef (Mark Dacascos) in the Robert Neville role, and instead of vampires it has mutants. I recommend it to people who enjoy low-budget post-apocalyptic movies. Asylum is currently working on another film entitled 2 Headed Shark starring Carmen Electra, Brooke Hogan, Charlie O' Connell, Christina Bach Norman and David Gallegos. I have a feeling this one won't be as good as I Am Omega. Check out Electra and her huge boobs on the set below.

Evil Bong & Gingerdead Man box sets I don't know about you, but I love campy horror films! First and foremost a horror film, in my opinion, should just be plain out fun! Charles Band has delivered that time and time again for the past five decades with plenty of horror films that have cult followings such as Puppetmaster, Creepozoids, Demonic Toys and Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl O Rama. Well... get set! Two feature films from Full Moon Entertainment that sure look like they deliver the camp and the fun are getting an early DVD release date through the direct website. My decision to explore director William Butler’s highly-anticipated killer doll opus “Demonic Toys: Personal Demons” was based solely on nostalgia alone. Having been a Full Moon Entertainment fan for nearly 20 years now, slipping back into this Charles Band-inspired universe after an extended hiatus was oddly comforting, like a warm, friendly blanket taken directly from a stylish cinematic dryer. Naturally, my opinion of the picture is incredibly biased, as I’m the proud owner of the entire “Demonic Toys” series, including that insipid “Dollman vs. Demonic Toys” endeavor released in 1993. If that’s not devotion, then you need to invest in a dictionary, my friend. Pronto. Butler, who many genre fiends may remember from “Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood” and Tom Savini’s questionable remake of “Night of the Living Dead”, seems to have done his homework, as “Demonic Toys: Personal Demons” looks and feels like...
