Princess Diana was the royal family’s most popular member, a spokeswoman for important issues, and a devoted mother to Prince William and Prince Harry. However, she had one ultimate dream that her daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, has since realized.
Princess Diana’s ultimate dream went unmet
The Mirror quotes formal royal butler Paul Burrell, who worked for Princess Diana for 10 years. Burrell was quoted in the 2017 Amazon documentary The Diana Story, that one of her ultimate dreams went unrealized.
Burrell explained of Diana’s crushing reality, “To have a baby girl in the family would have made everything for Diana.” His statement piggybacks on Diana’s remarks to author Andrew Morton in the book Diana: Her True Story.
Diana told Morton that she knew her second child, Prince Harry, would be a boy before giving birth. However, she didn’t tell Prince Charles since he had always hoped for a daughter.

Image Source: Getty / Tim Graham In honor of the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana's tragic death, many documentaries probing into her life, legacy, and untimely passing have been airing across the globe. One of them, NatGeo's Diana: In Her Own Words, aims to tell the princess's story from a different side: her own. The film is the only recent Diana documentary that is narrated entirely by the princess herself, using the taped conversations that would go on to be published in the controversial 1992 book Diana: Her True Story by Andrew Morton. From her tumultuous upbringing to her even more tumultuous marriage to Prince Charles, nothing seemed to be off-limits; Diana also touched on her complicated relationship with the press and paparazzi, something that would ultimately come into question after she was killed in a car accident in 1997 while being chased by photographers. The secret tensions between Princess Diana and Prince Charles didn’t remain behind closed doors for long.
Throughout the 1980’s, many viewed the couple as a fairy tale come to life — especially after their extravagant 1981 wedding. Quickly, Diana became one of the most photographed (and talked-about) people in the world.
By the time the ’90s rolled around, the press attention on Charles and Diana’s marriage was at an all-time high. So high, in fact, that Parliament called the editors of U.K. newspapers to Westminster to debate a person’s right to privacy versus the public’s right to know.

Princess Diana’s voice is being heard once again — 25 years after her death.
In the updated edition of Diana: Her True Story – In Her Own Words, author Andrew Morton revisits the extraordinary saga that led to the bombshell biography’s original publication in 1992.

Although that’s how their relationship began by many accounts, the real life version was of course far more complicated. Raine became Diana’s stepmother after she married John, Earl Spencer, when Diana was 15 years old. Poll was 89. An Avco Embassy release, The Lion in Winter was considered the favorite for the Best Picture and Best Director Oscars. The film had won the Best Film Award from the New York Film Critics Circle, while Harvey was the year's Directors Guild Award winner. However, Carol Reed's Columbia-distributed musical Oliver! turned out to be the winner in both categories. (Curiously, the previous year another Embassy release, Mike Nichols' The Graduate, unexpectedly lost the Best Picture Oscar to Norman Jewison's United Artists-distributed In the Heat of the Night. But at least Nichols came out victorious.
