Taylor Swift‘s “Love Story” is the best country love song of the 2000s, if not the best country love song ever written. Surprisingly, it was inspired by a romance that never got off of the ground. The tune includes references to two classic works of literature. One of these references doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Taylor Swift’s ‘Love Story’ has a nonsensical reference to ‘The Scarlet Letter’
During a 2009 interview with Time, Swift discussed the origin of “Love Story.” “‘Love Story’ is actually about a guy that I almost dated,” he said. “But when I introduced him to my family and my friends, they all said they didn’t like him. All of them!
“For the first time, I could relate to that Romeo-and-Juliet situation where the only people who wanted them to be together were them,” she said. “That’s the most romantic song I’ve written,...

Taylor Swift is continuing to keep Swifties guessing!
During the surprise songs portion of her final show at Accor Stadium in Sydney, Australia on Monday (February 26), Taylor performed two songs: “Forever & Always” from Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and “Maroon” from Midnights.
She followed up the piano performance by grabbing her guitar to sing a mash-up of songs about complicated relationships: “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve” from Midnights and “Ivy” from Evermore.
Keep reading to find out more…
Taylor performed the songs in her green surprise songs dress, one of the four-color options she has worn throughout The Eras Tour. The other three dresses of the same design are in maroon, green and yellow.
Some Swifties have theorized that the dress colors provide hints as to the kinds of surprise songs she will play during a particular show.

Taylor Swift performs two surprise songs for the acoustic set during every show of her Eras Tour and she has already performed a ton of incredible tracks across the first year of her tour.
The 33-year-old singer is currently on the international leg of her tour and there was recently a rule change.
Taylor previously made a rule that she’s only allowed to repeat songs if she messes them up the first time or if they’re from Midnights, her most recent studio album. Well, that’s no longer a rule!
Head inside to see the full list of remaining songs…
“This is sort of like a public service announcement … I’ve been thinking, I want to be as creative as possible with the acoustic set moving forward. I don’t wanna limit anything and say, ‘Oh, if I’ve played a song before I can’t play it again.

"Fearless. Fierce. First." Netflix has revealed the official trailer for their upoming biopic film titled Shirley, from filmmaker John Ridley following his Nola hospital thriller series Five Days at Memorial just before this. The film is now set for streaming in March on Netflix, and based on early test screening reviews, it's not going to make much of an impact (which is why it didn't open in last year's awards season). Shirley tells the story of the first Black congresswoman in America's history and a political icon, Shirley Chisholm, and her trailblazing run for President of the United States years ago. It chronicles her audacious, boundary-breaking 1972 presidential campaign. The film stars Regina King in the lead role as Shirley Chisholm, with Lance Reddick (Rip), Terrence Howard, Lucas Hedges, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Michael Cherrie, Christina Jackson, Dorian Crossmond Missick, Amirah Vann, and André Holland. This looks like a by-the-numbers biopic in every way.

Taylor Swift’s historic fourth Album of the Year win
After Taylor Swift’s Album of the Year win for “Midnights,” Noah claimed she was the first person to win Album of the Year four times. That is not exactly correct — engineers Tom Coyne, Serban Ghenea, and John Hanes had won four times before “Midnights” — but Swift is indeed the first woman and first performer to win this many times, following her victories for “Fearless,” “1989” and “Folklore.” This historic win is a testament to Swift’s ability to make consistently successful albums,...

“This is my 13th Grammy,” Swift said when accepting the award, acknowledging her proclaimed lucky number. “I want to say thank you to the members of the Recording Academy for voting this way, but I know that the way that the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans. So I want to say ‘thank you’ to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years — which is that my brand new album comes out April 19.”
The album will be called The Tortured Poet’s Department.
After making the announcement, Swift further teased the upcoming album on social media by sharing the album cover.

Taylor Swift is the odds-on favorite to make history with an Album of the Year victory for “Midnights.” It would be her fourth win in the category following victories for “Fearless,” “1989” and “Folklore.” That would set a new record for the most Album of the Year wins for any recording artist ever, breaking Swift’s tie with Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon. But she’s only tipped to win two other categories out of her six total nominations: Best Pop Vocal Album for “Midnights...

The nonprofit We Are Moving the Needle presented the Resonator Awards on Tuesday night, an inaugural celebration designed to spotlight women in the music business in a push for creating a more inclusive industry. Naturally, the biggest name in the game received a shout-out from the podium.
Two of Taylor Swift’s close collaborators — producer Jack Antonoff and mixer and recording engineer Laura Sisk — hit the stage inside Beauty & Essex in Hollywood. Antonoff had the honor of presenting the Exceptional Ears Award to Sisk, a three-time Grammy winner who has also worked with Lana Del Rey, Lorde, St. Vincent and Florence + the Machine.
Antonoff kicked off his tribute by detailing that he’s known Sisk for more than a decade. “She’s absolutely fucking incredible,” said Antonoff, one of two speakers from the podium who noted how loudly distracting the event’s kitchen staff was during the program. “I met Laura 12 or 13 years ago,...

The biggest Grammy Award of the night is Album of the Year, meant to honor complete pieces of work that defined the music scene and impacted the culture throughout the eligibility period. The award has gone to some of the most influential records of all time, including The Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and Adele’s “21.” While some years are more uncertain than others, this year the category seems to be a two-horse race, although a few other players might sneak their way through as well.
The frontrunners here are Taylor Swift’s “Midnights” and Sza’s “Sos.” Both records are massive commercial successes, finishing 2023 as the second and third biggest albums of the year, respectively. Both have also managed to be career peaks for these already uber-popular stars.

This article contains spoilers for "Mean Girls."
Every stage-to-film musical adaptation requires reimagining, rearranging, or removing elements that wouldn't gel well with the camera and the editing room. Retelling "Mean Girls" (every version of which has been penned by Tina Fey) involves the monumental assignment of adapting layers-upon-layers of its sources, starting with Rosalind Wiseman's 2002 nonfiction parent book "Queen Bees and Wannabes," and then moving onto the original 2004 Mark Waters-directed film based on Wiseman's book, the 2018 Casey Nicholaw-directed Broadway stage musical adaptation (which also features music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin), and, finally, the 2024 "Mean Girls" movie musical directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr.
Naturally, the "Mean Girls" movie musical had to scrap several songs and gags from the Broadway stage musical to leave space for makeovers. Theatre heads who've experienced the stage version are bound to notice some major exclusions, including those listed below.

For the entirety of my twenties and a chunk of my thirties, I knew the inebriated pleasure of debating the most trivial subjects known to humankind via what we used to call the "bar argument." Oh sure, people still knock back beers and fiercely debate the Hegelian messaging of the "Airport" franchise, but there was a time, a glorious time, when an elbow-tipping blowhard could loudly assert as fact that "The White Shadow" was an "All in the Family" spinoff, and no one could pull a rectangular device out of their pocket to authoritatively prove they're utterly full of horse pucky. Short of pulling Norman Jewison out from behind the jukebox for a McLuhan-esque correction, this dolt could double and triple down, and all you could do was yell at them. We've lost so much.
The best bar arguments tended to revolve around song lyrics, but movie quotes ran a very close second.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift reached an idiosyncratic tier of cultural prominence in her own right, breaking chart records and delivering an extravaganza of her own on the career-spanning stadium run, the Eras tour. Taylor Swift’s concert documentary “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” was as brilliant in the theater as it was to witness from the nosebleeds of SoFi Stadium. I won’t say it was better because the collective effervescence of a concert cannot be created without an arena setting and thousands of screaming Swifties, but the film transported me.
The only expectations that weren’t met (because the unexpected is almost always expected from Swift) were those that imply she may hint at the next re-record — rumored to be “Reputation,” which came out originally in 2017 — or anything of that nature.
With the grand entrance Swift makes at the start of the concert memorialized on film in high definition, the “Eras” tour became cemented in history and popular culture. “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” officially opened on Friday, October 13. Under normal circumstances, Friday the 13th wouldn’t seem like an advantageous time to do anything except maybe get hunted by a hockey-masked serial killer, but in this case it happens to coincide with Grammy voting, which started on October 11 and ends October 20. Will that help her clean up in the nominations?
“The Eras Tour” has been a blockbuster on concert stages, and it was a blockbuster in movie theaters before it was even released, selling $100 million just in pre-sale tickets. That’s an astronomical number for a concert documentary, but it’s par for the course for Swift, who has enjoyed unprecedented success for the past year.

In our ever-fracturing pop cultural landscape, very few things exist in the monoculture, where their omnipresence is something to either gravitate towards or run away from as fast as possible. Right now, Taylor Swift probably stands atop that mountain, and her record-breaking, monumental stadium show "The Eras Tour" is her victory lap. My relationship with Swift has evolved quite a lot over time. In the beginning, I didn't really pay much attention. This wasn't due to some knee-jerk aversion to her or her music. I have just never really been on the pulse of contemporary music, which is something I continuously try to rectify. So, I missed out on her country-girl roots and transition to full-on pop music. I knew of her as a public figure, and considering I could not care less about a celebrity's personal life, it was easy to tune out.

The 2024 Grammys will recognize music released between October 2022 and September 2023, which means the industry’s biggest names have begun their “For Your Consideration” campaigns in hopes of taking home an award. Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” concert film premiered Wednesday night to an enthusiastic crowd of celebrities, fans and of course Taylor’s team, with the star of the film in attendance. As one of the first to see the film, TheWrap has the scoop on which songs from the wildly popular tour made the film, and which songs were cut.
After making speeches in multiple auditoriums for separate audiences, Swift, clad in a sky blue floral-patterned dress (probably in theme for “1989 (Taylor’s Version) with her hair pinned up like the signature bob she had when that album first came out), sat back to enjoy the experience in one of the IMAX screening rooms with her background vocalists and publicist Tree Paine.
The documentary runs 2 hours and 48 minutes, slightly shorter than Swift’s three-hour setlist and performance, which she has brought to 17 of the United States so far in addition to Mexico.

You can surely already guess, based on how much you enjoyed (or think you might have enjoyed) Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour as a concert. Because this movie is exactly no more and no less than what it says on the tin: a filmed version of Swift’s record-breaking show, captured over three performances in Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium. Aside from a few onstage “bloopers” over the closing credits, there’s next to nothing in the way of supplementary material — no interviews, no behind-the-scenes footage, no commentary on what any of this means.
But what a concert it is — and what an experience it makes, even in the relatively modest confines of a movie theater.
As has been exhaustively documented over the past seven months, the Eras Tour...
