We're now only a little over two weeks before "Prometheus," the much-anticipated sci-fi opus from Ridley Scott, set in the same universe as his solid gold classic "Alien," begins to roll out in theater: the film opens internationally on June 1st, before coming to the U.S. the following week. And as such, the publicity tour for the film is starting to gear up, with the films' stars, Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron gracing magazine covers the world over.
As such, a few more tidbits about the film's production are starting to leak out, and we've scoured the web and the newsstands for a few select highlights on the film's genesis and production, as well as a hint on where Scott's other sci-fi follow-up to "Blade Runner" might be heading. Check them out below.
1. Screenwriter Damon Lindelof's first conversation with Ridley Scott happened over the phone at the side of the road.

The Woman has generated some controversy based on its misogynistic tones and scenes of torture. Early reviews from major news sources have called the film "an hour and a half of brutal misogyny" (Reporter) and "devoid of wit, flair and thematic focus" (Variety). However, most critics agree that the film is out to shock and there is often an audience for films that will push boundaries. The Woman will premiere in the United Kingdom August 27th and North America October 14th.
Part of the premise for The Woman is this focus on a feral person captured in the wild. Strangely, this is not an uncommon occurrence, with hundreds of stories of feral people being found in jungles and forests locally and abroad. Recently, there was a report of a Cambodian woman found malnourished and partially naked in Rattanakiri Prov. (2007). Her speech was imparied and her ability to socialize was diminished.

I love that Aaron Ashmore is joining one of our favorite shows, Warehouse 13. I do find it frustrating that I have trouble being certain that images of him aren’t his twin brother. And I find it refreshing to have out show runner Jack Kenny describe what Ashmore brings to the table, “He's charming, sexy, a terrific actor, willing to try to do anything and excited about what we're all doing together. And there's something that the camera sees in his eyes -- they absolutely pierce through you! Very disarming.”
USC quarterback Matt Barkley tweeted out his disgust with President Obama’s decision not to defend Doma. But he wants us to know “I'm not discriminating and I'm not a homophobe.”
You know it was a bad weekend at the box office when a three week old movie animated remake of Romeo & Juliet was the #1 movie.

Halloween is over, but the horror-film screenings continue. A quartet of genre features that have yet to achieve general distribution will be shown this month on opposite coasts, all with special guests on hand.
Tonight at midnight (actually 11:55 p.m.) at Los Angeles’ New Beverly Cinema (7165 Beverly Boulevard), the Grindhouse Film Festival presents a special showing of Lee Damarbre’s Smash Cut, about a horror filmmaker (played by the original Last House On The Left’s David Hess) who uses real body parts in his screen shockers. Inspired by the films of Herschell Gordon Lewis (who has an onscreen role, along with his The Wizard Of Gore star Ray Sager), the movie also features adult-film star Sasha Grey, Jesse Buck and Fango fave Michael Berryman. Demarbre and Hess will introduce the Grindhouse showing—Smash Cut’s only big-screen engagement in La—and take part in a Q&A afterward.

The reaction to the California Supreme Court's decision on Tuesday to uphold the state's controversial Proposition 8 ban of same-sex marriage was swift and very loud. While proponents of the November proposition applauded the court's 6-1 vote upholding the ban, thousands of opponents took to the streets of West Hollywood on Tuesday afternoon to express their displeasure with the decision.
"It doesn't mean much — we have to start over, we have to start back with our grass-root campaigns and get the word out," Richard Chandler said, marching down San Vicente Boulevard in Los Angeles with fellow protesters, including his husband, whom he married on October 7 in San Francisco, just weeks before Prop 8 was passed.
