The 2024 Grammys were not that long ago, but we’re already well into the 2025 Grammy season. With the eligibility deadline being August 30, 2024, we only have five months left to gear up our predictions and then switch focus to all the campaigning that goes along with Grammy voting. So, with a lot of the major contenders being out already, let’s see how the race looks.

In terms of hit songs, a few stand out from the rest. While songs like Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me,” Doja Cat’s “Agora Hills,” Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s “Carnival,” Tate McRae’s “Greedy”, and Teddy Swims’s “Lose Control” (he’d also need to submit a live version) will likely be big contenders for nominations, there are four songs that, to me at least, currently sound like possible winners.

Elliot Page criticized Canada’s rollback of LGBTQ rights on the stage of the Juno Awards in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Sunday night.
“We are at a time in history where the rights of LGBTQ2+ people are being revoked, restricted and eliminated throughout the world, and the effects are devastating,” Page, a transgender Halifax native, said in a speech presenting twin singer-songwriters Tegan and Sara with the Junos’ humanitarian award. Page praised the work of the Tegan and Sara Foundation for 2Slgbtq+ youth, supporting health care services to youth programs. Earlier in the week, he said at BFI Flare, London’s LGBTQ film festival, that “30% of young people identify as LGBTQ,” referring to a survey released earlier this year about Gen Z adults in the U.S. “So I’m sorry, but this is not niche.”

Elliot Page came to the Junos Awards on Sunday night to denounce a rollback of LGBTQ2+ rights after the Umbrella Academy star came out as transgender and nonbinary at the end of 2020.
“We are at a time in history where the rights of LGBTQ2+ people are being revoked, restricted and eliminated throughout the world, and the effects are devastating,” Page said when citing the work by the Tegan and Sara Foundation to support and build social change for trans and queer youth at the Junos in his hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
“If the world was not so hostile to LGBTQ2+ people, we would see ourselves purely as musicians,” Sara Quin, one half of the Canadian indie pop musicians Tegan and Sara, told the Juno audience. She called out the province of Alberta for recently proposing to restrict health care for transgender youth, including halting access to hormone therapy for children aged 15 and under.

This is already shaping up to be an interesting year for Best New Artist at the Grammys. The category might lack a clear frontrunner so far, as it is early in the year, but we do have some serious contenders who might pick up more steam closer to voting time this fall. Plus, an open field might make it even more interesting, unlike years where the winner was rather obvious like when Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish prevailed.
TikTok breakout Benson Boone might be positioning himself as the one to beat. He had already achieved some recognition before 2024 with his viral tracks “In the Stars” and “Ghost Town,” the latter of which charted on the Billboard Hot 100. ‘Madame Web’ was released only a few days ago and the movie is not doing all that well at all. Ariana Grande, a lyrical genius when it comes to all things sex and romance, has quite a romantic history herself that includes fellow stars and an ex-husband. While the pair largely kept their relationship under wraps, news of a split has thrust it back into the spotlight.
Grande and Gomez first confirmed their relationship in May 2020 with the former and Justin Bieber's "Stuck With U" music video, which showed the then-couple isolating together at her home in Los Angeles. Ed Begley Jr. is looking back on how his environmental activism negatively affected his career.
The “Better Call Saul” star admitted that his agents told him to “back off” his eco-friendly dedication so that he could land more roles — and, at one point, after crew members on film sets were stressed the recycling bins had not been properly disposed of in Begley’s presence. Begley was also approached during the 1994 film “The Pagemaster” by a producer who anticipated the actor would not want to film a scene involving him driving a car.
“I gave people the creeps,” Begley told Page Six. “People were afraid that I was going to point at them exiting their limo or their SUV and go, ‘How can you drive a car?’ I was like, ‘This is what I do and if you want to do it, I’ll tell you how I did it.'...

Longtime comedy screenwriting partners Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, known for such hits as Splash, Parenthood, City Slickers and A League of Their Own, will receive this year’s WGA West’s Laurel Award for Screenwriting Achievement. VH1 announced the new cast and premiere date for the fourth installment of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” on Friday, revealing the 10 returning queens who will be competing for their place in the “Drag Race” Hall of Fame.

Season 4 of “All Stars” will keep the show’s supersized 90-minute runtime, but it remains to be seen if the format will be the same after last season’s finale — in which Trixie Mattel was crowned the winner over fan-favorite Shangela due to a surprise vote by the eliminated queens — caused some backlash from the show’s fans.
