You can always count on Syfy to program the Leprechaun movies for St. Patrick’s Day, and we’re happy to report that this year is no exception. Syfy will be airing an all-day Leprechaun Franchise Marathon for St. Patrick’s Day once again, taking place on Sunday, March 17!
The good news? They’re showing All 8 Movies throughout the day, including 2018’s Leprechaun Returns. The bad news? As always, the movies are playing out of order.
The Leprechaun franchise kicked off with Mark Jones’s original horror-comedy in 1993, which was followed by five Warwick Davis-starring sequels, a reboot, and later Leprechaun Returns in 2018. Even though Leprechaun Returns was a sequel to the original movie, Linden Porco took over the role of the title character, played by Dylan Postl for Leprechaun Origins.

Halloween might be the next major holiday on the calendar but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a little luck o’ the Irish. Ahead of Halloween and to mark the occasion of the first Leprechaun movie’s 30th anniversary, director Mark Jones is giving his take not on the horror flick that launched an eight-movie (so far) franchise, but its sequels both good, bad and whatever Origins was going for.
Speaking with Comic Book Resources, director Mark Jones said he is a fan of most of the sequels, although there is one entry that stands out as notably bad. “I was a little bit involved in [Leprechaun 2]. I was a producer on [Leprechaun 2], but then I went off to do other stuff. I thought Leprechaun in the Hood was great. There’s a whole fan base there. Everyone but [Leprechaun: Origins], and all...

To date, there have been eight films in the "Leprechaun" series. The first film, released in 1993, starred Warwick Davis as the title character, an evil, smiling immortal monster with an obsession with his pot o' gold, a shoe fetish, and a propensity for murder. Davis would return for "Leprechaun 2" (1994), "Leprechaun 3" (1995), "Leprechaun 4: In Space" (1997), "Leprechaun in the Hood" (2000), and "Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood" (2003). Although parts 3 and 4 (both directed by stalwart exploitation veteran Brian Trenchard-Smith) are passably entertaining, and "In the Hood" is crazy enough to be distracting, the series is pretty...

While the 1970s and 1980s were strong decades for independent horror filmmaking, the 1990s proved to be a somewhat interesting time, as there seemed to be an overall tendency for this realm of the industry to be focused on making sequels and creating franchises out of ’80s horror hits, with a few landmark indie horror projects in the mix as well. And since sequels were so dominant at that time, I thought it only made sense for us to start there for this look back on the history of ’90s indie horror cinema.
After the 1980s proved to be a great time for indie horror, where so many movies ended up being successful due to a combination of theatrical releases and the increasing popularity of home video, it feels like in the decade that followed, many producers working in the independent realm wanted to capitalize on those successes by turning...

It’s August 2020 and that can only mean one thing: HBO Max is about to enter Lovecraft Country.
Over the years HBO (and by the transitive property its new HBO Max streaming offshoot) has grown accustomed to debuting a buzzworthy new TV show or limited series every couple of months. For August 2020 that will almost certainly be Southern Gothic horror series Lovecraft Country. The J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele-produced thriller arrives on August 14 on HBO and HBO Max.
Other strong HBO Max originals arriving in August include the documentary Class Action Park (release date Tbd), Seth Rogen-starring comedy An American Pickle (Aug. 6), and finales for I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, Doom Patrol, and Perry Mason.
Of course, HBO Max is designed to house much of WarnerMedia’s content across many mediums. That means some recent movies on note like Jojo Rabbit (Aug. 1), Richard Jewell (Aug. 8), and Birds of Prey (Aug.

Not long after acquiring the release rights to the buzzed-about Tragedy Girls, the studio Gunpowder & Sky is now taking a big step forward with their film adaptation of Jeff Hart's romantic zombie comedy action road trip (sounds fun, doesn't it?) novel, Eat, Brains, Love.
Deadline reports that Gunpowder & Sky has lined up Rodman Flender to direct the film adaptation of Eat, Brains, Love from a screenplay that will be written by Mike Herro and David Strauss.
Originally published in 2013, Eat, Brains, Love follows two high schoolers who are infected with a zombie virus, eat a good portion of their friends, and end up fleeing from the government and their teen psychic who is sent to capture them.
A play on words from the title of Elizabeth Gilbert's novel Eat, Pray, Love, Hart's "rom-zom-com," as fans of Shaun of the Dead might refer to it as, was followed by a...

When it comes to genre television series as of late, there are a few shows that get more love than others. And since I finally caught up with the recent season two finale of Scream: The TV Series, I thought now would be the perfect time to tip my hat to this underrated series that not only wears its horror-loving heart so very clearly on its sleeve, but also keeps the mystery-fueled spirit of Wes Craven’s films alive and kicking, all while showcasing a lot of fantastic talent behind the camera as well.
And as much as I adore those first two factors, it’s that final part—the way Scream: The TV Series has utilized some incredible directorial talent—that has made me a staunch supporter of the show, as I’d argue that Scream may the best genre series that most fans have consistently overlooked ever since it debuted last summer.

The upcoming Smosh movie isn’t the only project on which Defy Media and Lionsgate are collaborating. In addition to the film starring the duo behind one of YouTube’s most successful channels (and one of the internet’s most successful young adult brands), the companies just announced the launch of Movies on Break. It's "a curated selection of 200 films from the Lionsgate library” that are ad-supported with pre-roll and mid-roll commercial spots, but otherwise free-to-view onto a section of the Defy Media owned-and-operated Break.com website that draws over 18 million unique monthly viewers.
Movies on Break launches with 80 films categorized into a handful of separate verticals with enticing names, such as They Were In That?, Never Ending Sequels (which currently features Leprechaun 2, 3, 4, Leprechaun In The Hood, and Leprechaun Back 2 Tha Hood), 420 Flicks (which currently features The Stonged Age and Cheerleader Ninjas), Before They Were Famous (which currently features...

Eleven years after the final installment in the original series, the Leprechaun franchise was brought back from the dead this week courtesy of Lionsgate and WWE Films, who together released Leprechaun: Origins (review) onto VOD outlets this past Tuesday.
The Warwick Davis incarnation of the titular character had a reign of terror that lasted from 1993 until 2003, the original franchise spanning seven installments that saw the Irish jokester taking a trip to Vegas, being shipped off to space and ridin’ dirty in tha hood on two separate occasions.
Needless to say, the Leprechaun has left a pretty large body count in his wake over the years, and in celebration of the reboot we wanted to shine the green spotlight on some of his most memorable slayings. So today we bring you the seven best kills from the original six Leprechaun films, which are the some of the wildest and most off...

How did a low budget horror movie about a diminutive Irish monster spawn five sequels, a new reboot, and the career of Jennifer Aniston? EW tracks the deranged history of the Leprechaun franchise.
British actor Warwick Davis says he has “specific” fans—well-wishers who want to discuss just one of the several fantasy franchises in which he has appeared. “People talk about Star Wars, people talk about Harry Potter,” he explains, “and people talk about Leprechaun.”
Alert readers will have noticed that one of these franchises is not like the others. While Star Wars and Harry Potter have raked in billions of dollars,...

The endearingly nuts Leprechaun franchise has been a straight-to-video enterprise since 1994’s Leprechaun 2 failed to repeat the box-office success of the previous year’s Jennifer Aniston-starring Leprechaun. But two decades on, the little monster from Ireland is once again going to grace the big screen.
Lionsgate and WWE Studios announced today that franchise reboot Leprechaun: Origins, which stars wrestler Dylan “Hornswoggle” Postl as the titular Emerald Isle gremlin, will have a limited theatrical run on Aug. 22. The former was on display on the last day of the annual South By Southwest festival when Benson hosted Doug Benson’s Movie Interruption at the Alamo Draft House Ritz in Austin. The Movie Interruption is a simple premise: Benson screens a movie,...

I keep forgetting to post something every time Amazon has some deals running, but I remembered today as they are offering some solid deals on some horror franchises that may pique your interest. Chief among this week's selection are the complete Resident Evil, Mimic and Underworld collections on Blu-ray along with fractured portions of other horror franchises such as Scream and Scary Movie. The Scream, Saw and Mimic trilogies are also available on sale on DVD along with the DVD collection of the Leprechaun franchise. Considering it's Halloween and the discounts are pretty solid where you can get each Resident Evil movie for essentially $8.29 or each Underworld movie for $8.16 they may be worth considering depending on your at home taste in movie watching. Neither are cinematic classics, but both make for decent, at-home diversions. The complete list is available below. Blu-ray Mimic: Three-Film Set - $11.99 The Resident Evil Collection - $41.49 Includes Resident Evil,...

Greetings from the apocalypse! We managed to hold off the Antichrist by electing a pope from South America who looks just like Jonathan Pryce. That's pretty good work. I say Rome, the Americas and all the rest of us deserve an honest weekend off, and what more auspicious time to do that than a Catholic drinking holiday?
Friday, March 15
We're gonna kick things off at the appropriate time to christen any weekend: 4:20 p.m., since that's when "Curly Sue" is on Encore. I know what you're thinking, "Man, that's, like, John Hughes' worst movie," and you're not wrong, but this ersatz comedy about a father-daughter con artist team who sleaze their way into some rich folks' hearts has a little...

NextMovie kicks off Leprechaun Week today! Look for new "Leprechaun"-related content every day this week in the lead-up to St. Paddy's Day. Because it's what Leprechaun would have wanted ...
"I have not come to play with fruit. I just want me magic flute!"
So sayeth the ever-rhyming Irish demon played by Warwick Davis in "Leprechaun in the Hood" (2000) to the lusty cross-dressing Miss Fontaine (Lobo Sebastian). A little later, these two engage in a passionate romp under the sheets during which Miss Fontaine's cries of pain will be mistaken for gasps of orgasmic delight by at least one bewildered passer-by as the Leprechaun claims another victim.
It's astonishingly tasteless, crass and almost (almost) admirably brazen ... which kind of sums up the "Leprechaun" series in its entirety. And that's a pretty impressive entirety — there are six of the damn things in that pot of cinematic gold, after all.

How seriously do you think I take Halloween? Well, I’m fairly frickin’ anal retentive anyway, so I need to book my viewing in advance. I mean I’ll deviate from my itinerary, but I at least need a plan. I can’t be the only one out there with a stick up his ass. So this October/Halloween Season I figured we needed a little guidance. There’s too many damn channels on the cable box, no horror hosts and shit for advertising. So let me be your TV Guide… Keeper.
We won’t touch on everything and I’m sure new programming will come up as October gets itself moving. I’ll throw an update out there from time to time if a special is airing or a new programming line up is discovered, uncovered, revealed or undead. Yes, this is for cable or dish. Network TV will...

With nearly 30 years in the FX game, Todd has leant his vision to the lycanthropes of Twilight: New Moon and Howling VI: The Freaks, and worked on genre classics like True Blood, Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child, Slither, and Leprechaun 2. Todd sat down with a small group of journalists on the set of Underworld Awakening and talked to us about improving on someone else's design, working with 3D, and the soon-to-be legendary Uber Lycan. Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop
Directed by: Rodman Flender
Cast: Conan O’Brien, Andy Richter, Sona Movsesian, Stephen Colbert
Running Time: 1 hr 29 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: June 24, 2011 (limited)
Plot: After NBC fires talk-show host Conan O’Brien, he sets off on a cross-country comedy tour, warts and all.
Who’S It For? I don’t watch his TBS show, but I have found the man funny. It will be near impossible for someone who worships Jay Leno to give this movie a chance. More importantly, do you think we could find someone who worships Leno?
Overall
Can’t stop. Nope. He can’t. Not only does this documentary showcase that, it really dives into the concept of a performance. Conan O’Brien bares some scars and is a prime example of how much energy it takes to put on a show, and how hard it is to turn off.

Conan O'Brien Can't Stop Directed by: Rodman Flender When Conan O'Brien was unceremoniously dumped as the host of The Tonight Show by NBC last year, as part of his settlement he found himself banished from television for six months along with the rest of his crew. But rather than just taking an extended vacation like any other big star would, he decided to set off on a grueling comedy tour across North America as a way of keeping his crew employed and also as a way of giving back to the fans who supported him throughout the ordeal. Longtime friend and filmmaker Rodman Flender came along for the ride with a camera crew, and what he ended up capturing was somewhat surprising -- not to mention, hilarious. After having caught The Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour during its stop in Toronto last year, I was worried that...

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, lads and lassies! Time to dust off your green garb and prep your palette for jade-tinted guzzling so you can properly rep the 0.064% of your genetics that lay claim to Irish heritage.

Happy St. Patrick's Day. Fittingly, here is a review of a film about a guy of Irish descent directed by the guy who directed 'Leprechaun 2.'
One of the highlights of the SXSW film festival is seeing a sold out comedy at the Paramount Theater. 1200 people laughing together is just a wonderful thing. Even better, for me, though, is seeing so many people in one room together for a documentary, as was the case for 'Conan O'Brien Can't Stop.' It's one of a few docs playing twice in such a big room this week, and (nothing against the also-great 'The Interrupters' and 'Senna') surely it's the most popular of the three.
Part of the reason for that popularity is obviously O'Brien's notoriety, and the promise of laughs is certainly a factor, as well. If I had to complain about anything,...

It's one of a few docs playing twice in such a big room this week, and (nothing against the also-great 'The Interrupters' and 'Senna') surely it's the most popular of the three.
Part of the reason for that popularity is obviously O'Brien's notoriety, and the promise of laughs is certainly a factor, as well. If I had to complain about anything,...
Happy St. Patrick's Day. Fittingly, here is a review of a film about a guy of Irish descent directed by the guy who directed 'Leprechaun 2.'

Arrow Video continue to endear themselves to all fans of cult and old school horror with yet another gem of a release in the slinky form of the 80s bloodsucker “Vamp”. Infamous mainly for its starring the one and only Grace Jones, one of the most terrifying creatures every to stalk the planet, in the lead, the film is a strange and somewhat obscure, though very welcome choice for the re-release treatment. The film is definitely one to stir memories of anyone who spent many of their formative years trawling video shops for genre fun, with an awesome cast that includes Chris Makepeace (“Meatballs”), Robert Rusler (“Nightmare on Elm St 2”), Dedee Pfeiffer (“House 3: the Horror Show”) and Sandy Baron (“Leprechaun 2”), not to mention sinister character actor Billy Drago. As usual, Arrow have pulled out all the stops, with the usual gorgeous custom DVD box art and collector’s booklet,...

After a short period of flux after leaving “The Tonight Show,” Conan O’Brien was back in the spotlight a few weeks ago when he created a Twitter account and announced his upcoming comedy tour.
His contract with NBC prohibits him from any television appearances until the fall, so what does he do in the meantime? A comedy tour, of course! The tour is fittingly called, “The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour” and kicks off on April 12th in Eugene, Or. He will visit 30 cities until June 12th, when he is set to finish in Atlanta. Go to the tour’s website, TeamCoco.com, for a full list of dates.
In addition, O’Brien will not be taking any of the profits from the tour. He has chosen to give it to the families of his crew of about 40 who were uprooted to New York following his...

There was a time when Conan O'Brien had his dream job on The Tonight Show, but his luck, unfortunately, was fleeting. That pesky Jay Leno wanted to get back into the seat, so NBC axed the tall redhead. O'Brien's severance package earned him a healthy $30 million pay-out, but there was a catch -- he had to agree to stay off the television airwaves until the fall. But they said nothing about the big screen!
Deadline Hollywood reports that early talks have begun to turn Conan's 30-city tour, "The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour," into a documentary feature. Media Rights Capital is thinking about financing the project, and Rodman Flender is in talks to direct. Flender has been spent many years directing for the small screen, but he has also written Dracula Rising, acted in flicks like Carnosaur, and helmed Leprechaun 2.
Conan O'Brien on the big screen?...

Conan O'Brien may not get to host "The Tonight Show" anymore, but he could instead star in his own film. According to Deadline, a documentary crew is likely to follow the talk show vet during “The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour," his 30-city live stage show that kicks off in Eugene, Or on April 12.
Appropriately enough for today, "Leprechaun 2" director Rodman Flender is in talks to make the documentary, which is also trying to secure financing. As long as the film doesn't air on television right away, it won't violate O'Brien's terms with NBC which prohibit him from appearing on the small screen until the fall.
Such a quick turnaround (the tour ends June 14) would be difficult anyway, unless this is to be just a filming of the theatrical production to be shown on HBO (or wherever) for those fans who can't make it to one...

That has given him license to enthusiastically throw around blood by the bucketful, easily outdoing the original film on the splatter score; Lynch and his cohorts (including makeup FX supervisor Bill Terezakis) even find a way to top the first Turn’s arrow-in-the-eye highlight gag. The material may be familiar and none too surprising, but Lynch punches it across with all the energy of a longtime hardcore horror fan getting the chance to let it all hang out in his debut feature. You can tell he loves this stuff.
