Certainly one definition of great music might include an ability to meet the present – and the future – head-on and come out unbruised, even triumphant. By that standard and many more, The Who’s Tommy, opening tonight on Broadway, is thrilling proof that the premiere concept album of 1969 is great music indeed.
Gloriously directed by Des McAnuff and updated by him and composer-lyricist Pete Townshend from their own 1993 original Broadway staging, The Who’s Tommy is a non-stop surge of electrified energy, a darting pinball of a production that syncs visual panache with 55-year-old songs that sound as vital today as they must have at Woodstock. Themes of enlightenment and connection, trauma and recovery, truth and lies and blinkered hero worship feel more relevant in the 21st Century than Townshend could possibly have imagined way back in the waning days of the ’60s.

Kangana Ranaut Bashing ‘Heroes & Filmmakers Of Dark Films’ In An Old Video Goes Viral Amid Animal’s Release ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal has been the talk of the town ever since it hit the big screens on December 1. Despite marking a clash with Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur, Ranbir Kapoor’s film is enjoying the stupendous collection at the box office. Within just three days, the film crossed the 200 crore mark and earned 201.76 crore on its first weekend. While the film is making a monstrous collection at the box office, an old video of Kangana Ranaut slamming the dark cinema is doing the rounds on social media.
Amid all the buzz around the film, it is also being called out for showing a dark and misogynistic character portrayed by Ranbir Kapoor. Well, this isn’t the first time Vanga was earlier put in the same situation...

Gotta feeling ’24 is gonna be a good year, at least for fans of The Who’s Tommy: The acclaimed Chicago stage production directed by Des McAnuff is heading to Broadway.
The newly reimagined production, produced by Stephen Gabriel and Ira Pittelman, will begin previews March 8, 2024, at the Nederlander Theatre, with an opening night set for March 28.
In a statement, Pete Townshend, who wrote the music, lyrics and co-wrote the book with McAnuff, said, “In 1969, when I originally wrote Tommy with The Who, nobody had ever written popular music songs about trauma, nobody talked about bullying, domestic sexual abuse was a subject that was virtually censored.
“Then, in 1993,” he continued, “working with Des on the staged theatre piece, we broke the established rules for a musical show. Now, the current generation is breaking all of those rules again – and what Des has achieved with this incredible new production honors them and their courage and audacity.

Adam Jones has teamed up with Epiphone for the Les Paul Custom Art Collection. The latest guitar in the collection features artwork by the Tool guitarist’s wife, Korin Faught.
Faught’s original painting “Sensation” adorns the back of the fifth guitar in the collection, perhaps the crown jewel of the new Epiphone line. The stunning piece first premiered as part of the “Lost Days” exhibition in October 2016 at the Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles.
“‘Sensation’ is a painting about the loneliness and isolation of illness,” Faught mused via a press release for the guitars. “‘Sensation’ is a word to replace a fear based word. A word she learned while preparing for childbirth. A word she could retreat into when lying in bed with only herself and her thoughts. Gentle meditative properties and calmness resonate through her body as she lives within the moment.”

"I will teach you the most amazing things." Vertical Ent. has released the official trailer for Sensation, a sci-fi mystery thriller from filmmaker Martin Grof arriving right at the end of this year. Haven't heard much about this, another intriguing indie sci-fi that seems to be tearing off more than it can chew. When a lowly postman is inducted into a top-secret superhuman DNA program at a research facility, it's revealed that he'll be able to receive, control + send data based on the senses of others. As his training unfolds, strange and unsettling occurrences begin as he's placed in bizarre scenarios that make him question his reality. Eugene Simon and Emily Wyatt star, with Jennifer Martin and Alastair G. Cumming. From this trailer, it seems like a remix of Inception plus X-Men. Always with a nefarious businessman trying to keep it a secret. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Martin Grof's Sensation,...

Love is in the air — in all its dysfunctional glory. Amazon dropped the trailer for its upcoming anthology series “Modern Love” on Thursday, featuring an all-star cast that includes Tina Fey and John Slattery, who play a married couple that is definitely in a rut.
In the video above, when a therapist asks Fey and Slattery’s characters what they do on their “date night,” Fey says “this” — as in going to couple’s therapy. How fun! And that’s just one of eight love stories the series will show you.
“Modern Love,” which launches on Prime Video on Oct. 18, is a half-hour romantic comedy series inspired by the popular New York Times column of the same name. The anthology “explores love in all of its complicated and beautiful forms, as each standalone episode brings some of the column’s most beloved stories to life with a stellar cast.”

Last summer, Roger Daltrey hit the road in America and played the Who’s 1969 rock opera Tommy in its entirety. He was joined at every stop by an orchestra in order to recreate the lush arrangements of the original album. They taped the set in Budapest and Bethel Woods, New York (the site of the original Woodstock) for the live album The Who’s Tommy Orchestral, which is coming out on June 14th.

As we rightfully celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' rockin'-vasion of America, it is also worth noting the 40th anniversaries of progressive rock albums released in 1974 -- a banner year for the genre.
In alphabetical rather than chronological order, here is just a short list, along with links to a representative composition from each album.
Enjoy!
Apostrophe (Frank Zappa)
Although Zappa had been "at it" since 1966 -- as one of the earliest progenitors of progressive rock -- and although he had already put out over a dozen important albums, Apostrophe (and the immediately prior album, Over-Nite Sensation) arguably brought him to the masses through his cross-over "hit," "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow," which, despite its length, received regular airplay on FM stations. It didn't hurt that the album also included two of his funniest, most fun songs, "Cozmik Debris" and "Stinkfoot."

Plus, familiar faces — including one that rhymes with Shmichael Shcott — return for one last goodbye!
After eight years and nearly 200 episodes, the doors of Dunder Mifflin closed forever — to the fans, at least — during the May 16 series finale of The Office, and the big ending went down in the most appropriately weird setting I could have ever imagined: Dwight’s (Rainn Wilson) wedding to Angela (Angela Kinsey)!
The nutty nuptials doubled as an excuse to bring back some old faces — including Andy (Ed Helms), whose tearful audition on America’s Next Acapella Sensation had since turned him into a viral sensation.
But no return was more welcome — or highly anticipated — than that of Michael Scott (Steve Carell), who had some super-weird words to say to the camera about Dwight and Angela’s union:
“I feel like all my kids grew up, and then they married each other. It’s every parent’s dream!

What makes The Office series finale bigger than expected? Well, lot’s of things, but let’s focus on the most prominent, shall we? This just in. The event is so huge that 15 minutes of screen time had to be added to the broadcast.
NBC has already up-sized their legendary comedy, giving it one-hour installments for its final three airings, which all lead up to the upcoming series finale this month, which, as we just revealed, will be bumped to 15 minutes longer, as reported by THR.
So, there you have it, the May 16 episode, which will be The Office‘s last ever, will run for 75 minutes, but with commercials. That makes 9 to 10:15 p.m. chocked full of bitter-sweetness. What a milestone.

Move over Jaws…here comes Sharktopus!! SyFy’s creature-feature, Sharktopus, will make its way to DVD and Blu-ray on March 15, 2011 from Anchor Bay Entertainment.
