New York-based Kino Lorber has acquired all North American rights to horror pic “Virtual Reality,” from Argentine director-producer Hernán Findling (“Impossible Crimes”).
Other deals on the pic closed by FilmSharks include Media 4 Fun (Poland), Av Jet (Taiwan) and Laon-i (South Korea). Japan, Latin America, the U.K. and France are under discussion.
“Just a few horror stories attain such a high degree of talent in merging so many different stories within the same feature, incorporating well-known genre cinema classics to make an absolutely new feature. This small-budgeted film has surprised everyone,” FilmSharks CEO, Guido Rud told Variety.
Starring Vanesa González, César Bordón, Christian Sancho and Federico Bal, “Virtual Reality” has screened at Sitges and Bifan. In it, a cast and crew arrive at their director’s house for their film’s first cut screening. They soon find out that he has struck a sinister pact to ensure his career really takes off.

In a series of key pacts for Argentine political horror pic, “History of the Occult,” Netflix has snapped up streaming rights to the film for Spain and Latin America, which it plans to drop on Oct. 15, while WarnerMedia’s HBO Max has scooped up all Central European streaming rights.
In addition, Eurozoom took all French rights and plans a first quarter 2022 theatrical release, said Guido Rud, CEO of Buenos Aires-based sales and production company FilmSharks International.
“We believe that high concept horror is hard to find, and high concept with amazing scripts, almost impossible. But miracles happen and we are lucky that we know the right buyers who have the skills and foresight to recognize these gems when we do,” said Rud.

As a self-professed “comic book person” and “genre head”, Ryan Griffen is blown away to have the voice of Batman – Kevin Conroy – attached for his upcoming project, Lustration VR.
Commissioned by Facebook Reality Lab’s Media Studios for Oculus TV, the 4×6 minute animated virtual series created by Griffen will take audiences to ‘The Between’, a world after death.
Based on the writer-director’s graphic novel series of the same name, it centres on Bardolph (Conroy) and Gallus, two protectors of the afterlife, upholding good against evil by removing those who do not belong.
Shakira Clanton.
However, when they miss removing someone, they begin to uncover the truth about The Between; that it is run like an elite country club, with the powers-that-be picking and choosing who gets eternal happiness and who doesn’t.
Each episode is told from a different character’s perspective and has the potential to be experienced from different vantage points.

With seven titles selected for Venice VR Expanded at this year’s film festival, Taiwan has once again demonstrated its potential as a global leader in virtual reality content production. But this time, the tech hub in Asia has more to offer: it aims higher than just flaunting its technological advancement and the quality of locally produced works. It wants to elevate itself as an international player that collaborates with creative forces from around the world.
Of the seven titles, five featured in competition and two in out-of-competition, four are co-productions with talent from other countries. Among the five titles in competition that are backed by Taiwan Creative Content Agency, three are international co-productions. The entries for this year’s VR Expanded has set a record for the independent agency promoting the island’s creative and content industries established under the Executive Yuan and the Ministry of Culture.

Venice works with VR platforms including Facebook-owned Oculus and Viveport, which do not allow nudity and sex, for example.
Venice VR Expanded co-creators Liz Rosenthal and Michel Reilhac have warned of freedom of expression issues threatening to stop daring and ground-breaking VR work being seen widely.

Worldwide and remake rights to Argentine political horror pic, “History of the Occult,” has been snapped up by leading Buenos Aires-based sales and production company, FilmSharks International.
According to FilmSharks’ CEO Guido Rud, advanced talks are underway with a streaming giant while a major U.S. genre producer is eyeing it for a remake, which FilmSharks subsidiary, The Remake Company, handles.
Filmed in black and white and set in the 1980s, “History of the Occult” takes place during the last broadcast of the #1 news show on TV, “60 Minutes Before Midnight.” A band of journalists are racing against time to convince the lead guest, Adrian Marcato, to expose a conspiracy that connects their corrupt government to an actual coven.

Buenos Aires-based FilmSharks Int’l has picked up worldwide rights to sci-fi-horror film “Virtual Reality” by Argentine terror meister Hernan Findling who has directed and produced a slew of genre films.
“We’d been chasing this title ever since we saw it at the 2020 Sitges Film Festival’s Coming Soon section, a preview of upcoming genre films, and were up against tough competition,” said FilmSharks CEO, Guido Rud. “It was one of the best high-concept horror gems we have seen recently,” added Rud who expects brisk international sales before the film’s premiere later this year.

The Venice Film Festival is tweaking its sections as it gears up for its upcoming 78th edition in September.
After announcing that “Parasite” director Bong Joon Ho will preside over the main jury, the Lido on Monday opened up for film submissions and said in a statement that the fest’s Sconfini section — which had been scrapped last year to free up more space for the socially-distanced screenings — is being replaced by a new section called Horizons Extra.
Horizons Extra will be an extension of Venice’s competitive Horizons (Orrizonti) section that focuses on new trends in world cinema, but will be “less constrained by standards of length and format,” the Venice statement said. The new sidebar is for “works with no limits of genre, duration and destination, as long as they last more than 60 minutes,” it added. Prizes will be decided by a jury of audience members “following criteria and procedures to be announced.

The Venice Film Festival’s Virtual Reality section is going entirely online this year, but expanding its scope via a platform and also a satellite network that will make it accessible worldwide.
In normal times the competitive sidebar launched in 2017 by co-curators Michel Reilhac and Liz Rosenthal – who put Venice ahead of the curve in the VR arena – was held on the Lazzaretto, a tiny island a stone’s throw from the Lido that was a leper colony in the 15th century. But due to the coronavirus pandemic this year it’s been rebranded Venice VR Expanded and moved to a digital platform supported by Htc Viveport, Facebook’s Oculus, VRChat and VRrOOm that will allow various types of access using a VR headset and a PC.
Venice VR Expanded will present a total of 44 projects from 24 countries, 31 of which are in competition. These include “Gnomes & Goblins,” co-directed by “The Lion King...

After several delays, “Marvel’s Iron Man Vr” virtual reality game is set to zoom onto Sony’s PlayStation Vr headsets in July.
The first-person game, in which players take control of Tony Stark’s famous flying suit, will be released July 3, 2020, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced Tuesday in a tweet.

E3 is an exciting time of year for all types of gamers as the show expands into many different categories. Mobile gamers can be excited for new social interactions, and maybe even some new hardware, and of course hardcore gamers can see what the next few years have for them. Here at Cinelinx we are excited for our own reasons and well, we can’t wait to tell you why. Want to know what’s got us excited? Find out after the jump!
Dustin:
Last year, overall, E3 was kind of a dull moment for many reasons. Sure we got a glimpse into Microsoft’s future with Project Scorpio, after the promised they wouldn’t be doing that, but they kind of forgot to bring the unit with them. Sony had a stellar opening showcase and showed off many games, but a majority of them are still unreleased, and undated.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - In what world could I not start with this one? Anyone who knows me or has read my work knows how much of a Zelda fanboy I am. However, you don’t even have to be a fanboy to appreciate the gravity of Breath of the Wild. It’s the first true open-world Zelda game, Windwaker was to an extent but not to the level of Breath of the Wild.

The most in-demand composers often take on the most assignments. In 2016 top dog Michael Giacchino delivered original scores for three Disney movies: animated “Zootopia,” Lucasfilm’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” as well as Paramount’s “Star Trek Beyond,” competing against go-to composer Alexandre Desplat, who scored live-action “American Pastoral,” “Florence Foster Jenkins,” and “Light Between Oceans” as well as Illumination’s animated “Secret Life of Pets.”
Nicholas Britell composed both “Free State of Jones” and Oscar frontrunner “Moonlight.” And Rupert Gregson-Williams (“Hacksaw Ridge”) is competing in the category against his brother Harry (“Live By Night”).
Two stunning modern scores leaning to the minimal were disqualified: Kim Allen Kluge and Kathryn Kluge’s “Silence” (see why here) and Jóhann Jóhannsson’s “Arrival.” (He had landed a nomination for Denis Villeneuve’s “Sicario” the year before.) After all, this always idiosyncratic branch did not deem...

Time flies, doesn’t it? It seems like just yesterday I was watching Animaniacs Live, interviewing folks about Turtles and cartoons, seeing the latest in geek fashions, hanging out with American Gods, and chatting with the Kings of Con at Sdcc, not to mention chillin’ at Nerd HQ. And now suddenly it’s September, and I’ve since attended both the UK Discworld Convention and Dragon Con! Convention season: it really never stops, does it?

With the press conferences now over and the regular E3 show floor days in full swing, the gaming team here at Cinelinx wanted to look back at the major conferences this year and see who everyone thought “won.” Come inside to see our team’s picks and share your own thoughts!
Each year, the studios behind the major press conferences try to out-do one another, in an attempt to “win” the show and leaving everyone talking about them. In year’s past it’s cycled between the various companies, and everyone tends to feel different about who took home the victory. As such, we asked our staff members who they thought had the best conference this time around, and explain why:
Rob:
At first I thought that Ubisoft had won the Battle of the E3 presentations. With a lineup of Watch_Dogs 2, South Park: Fractured but Whole, Ghost Recon...I mean c’mon they had this thing wrapped up. Then Sony hit the stage a few hours later, and blew everyone out of the water.
Bear McCreary led an orchestra in a musical score from the first gameplay for God of War; Last Guardian got a release date after 7 years of production hell; gameplay/video from Day’s Gone, Spiderman PS4, Cod: Infinite Warfare, and so much more. If this was a Thanksgiving dinner you’d have to breakout the sweatpants because you’re going to get full!
How can I forget the awesome video with the funniest/oddest name ever - Detroit: Become Human. As you can tell from all the praise Sony Playstation has easily claimed E3 2016, I really don’t need to wait for Nintendo because what have they done in the past 3-4 years that was worth talking about?
Aaron (Note Aaron is being comical!)
EA wins all.
Highlights of E3:
Become Human, goto Detroit, Detroit Become Human, Detroit Vr Tourism, Batman: Arkham, Detroit, Spiderman, in Detroit.
Detroit.
Chris
Bethesda and Sony tied for the best E3 conference, both brought their A-Game this year and delivered. From the surprise announcements (Quake Champions, The Last Guardian getting a release date) to the high quality level of presentation given (Sony Orchestra) both were fantastic!
Dustin
The best conference was Sony. I was trying hard to look elsewhere, but you simply can’t. Before E3 we had all put together our predictions, and wishlist, and Sony single handily hit everything on my list. It was awesome seeing Quake at Bethesda, and their hint at Wolfenstein, but a majority of their show was just “wait for Quake Con.” Ubisoft was the first show to have something cool looking with Ghost Recon and Watch Dogs 2, and Microsoft had a decent show until they jumped the ship with Scorpio.
Sony, my goodness Sony, this is how you do an E3 show. They talked for maybe a Total of 5 minutes. We didn’t need stats or long descriptions about everything, it was an hour of pure trailers and gameplay. Sony was smart doing that and then utilizing E3 itself to host developers and talk about specific content. They did a great job of mentioning Vr, getting the details out, and then running back to showing it off. Sony often times has an advantage by going last, but it’s worth it. I was finally happy that E3 was happening when their show took place. Spider-Man and Kojima in one show! You simply can't beat that.
Jordan
At this point, I don’t see much point in arguing against Sony having won the conference battle this year. Generally speaking, I enjoyed the majority of the press conferences at E3, but none of them really felt like they brought the “wow” factor to the show.
Bethesda did a pretty solid job, especially coming after such a disappointing showcase from EA, showing us some incredible gameplay from Dishonored 2, as well as giving us a look at what’s to come from them in the future. Ubisoft also delivered in a few ways, but really lost focus about mid-way through the presentation. After which, it became a chore to watch, and hard to care about the things they were showing.
With Xbox ending on a new(ish) console announcement, Sony had their work cut out for them. Fortunately for gamers, they were more than up to the challenge. Their conference didn’t pull any punches, and featured game trailer after game trailer, with little to no downtime in between. It was a constant barrage of reveals that kept you glued to your seats for fear of missing out on something. It gave me the “wow” I’d been looking for in the days preceding it, and had me cheering out loud at several points too.
There’s plenty more E3 coverage going on with the site this week, so be sure to keep it tuned to us. While you’re here, however, be sure to tell us who You thought “won” E3 and why you think so.

With E3 conferences wrapped up we got all the major announcements from all the major companies in attendance. They put themselves at the center of the game industry for an hour and half (longer if you are EA) and showed us everything they did. So how did they stack up? Who had the best outing that excited us all, and who was more of a let down?
Dustin -
Best - Square Enix.
I know it is shocking to say of all people at E3 that Square Enix impressed me the most, but it seemed they had the best lineup of games that got me excited. They had the most shocking appearances and their presentation felt like a throwback to old times at E3. Virtual Reality gaming is seeing a surge with both the Oculus Rift and Sony's newly announced Morpheus vying to take gamers to an all new level. But, other Vr accessories are coming to enhance the experience further. Come inside to learn more about the controller and how you can help!
I've yet to get in on the Vr craze going on right now in gaming. Our own Dustin got some hands on time with Sony's headset at E3 this year and felt pretty happy about it, but I'm still not sure. Even so, I can't deny it's appeal, especially when you add in peripherals like this motion controller into the mix. There's some technical stuff in here, so it'll be...

It’s a wonderful time to be a geek, and the San Diego Comic-Con is right around the corner. We here at Cinelinx couldn't’ be happier, and we’re looking forward to all the surprises coming our way. That’s why, much like we did before , our team sat down to talk about what they hope to see revealed at Sdcc. Come inside to check out our predictions/wish list and add your own!

E3 has come and gone and now that the dust has settled we want to take a look back and discuss what got us excited, or dare I say disappointed. We have impressions from the show floor as well! Check it out after the jump!
Eric Gibbs
I’m ecstatic to see all three console companies come out swinging this year. I’ve always said let them fight it out, and let us reap the fantastic games! I was extremely happy to see that games were the primary focus this year. We still had interesting accessories like Sony’s Project Morpheus and Nintendo’s “toy-to-life” Amiibo line, but games were the core of what the console makers are pushing this year.
With games like No Man’s Sky, Abzu, Broforce and Hot Line Miami 2, Sony has continued pushing some amazing indie games, which seem to be some of my favorite in this neoteric console generation.
