Deceptive and One Sided.
buildy-3915630 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Truth in story telling when a film is presented as a "true story" is not only important, it is essential. This fictional story is "Deceptive and One Sided" fictional view of a real story. A look into the real story that this script is based on shows a very different reality. Yet the story is told as if it is all fact. It in no way portrays the story as it happened. I feel very sorry for the bloke who was grossly slandered. When I watched it I was annoyed enough by the "bad man" to research him but when I found both sides of the real story, I was downright angry with this writer and producer. That reaction says the movies OK. But please remember it is in reality a fiction !

The standard of acting, directing, camera work is what you'd expect for a reasonable 'made for TV' movie. Like most TV movies, it's watchable if the time needs wasting and as a fictional story goes, it's quite good.

A very good TV movie!

In this better than average teleflick, Lori Loughlin stars as a woman whose husband dumps her and the kids and leaves them with next to nothing. It's Loughlin's job to keep the kids fed, in shoes, healthy, happy, etc. She juggles two jobs and has no time for her kids. Until she decides to fight back. And that's where it gets good. Kudos to Loughlin for a heart-wrenching performance.

Completely unrealistic
Leparsdon15 January 2022
The way that the welfare and child support system in this country is portrayed is laughably inaccurate. There is no way a single mother working a part time job with 2 minors wouldn't qualify for welfare. Also, child support orders are basically a one-way ticket to prison if you don't pay, so the fact they had no way to locate him or enforce the order is completely unrealistic. If she had his social security number and he worked anywhere, they would be able to locate him. This movie was trying to hype the drama to 100 by creating this implausible scenario that makes no sense at all.

Excellent story about what it's like to be a single mother

ABANDONED AND DECEIVED, in my opinion, is an excellent movie about what it's like to be a single mother. When Doug (Brian Kerwin) failed to pay child support, I did not care for him at all. If you ask me, he should have been arrested for child support evasion. I would see to it that he paid if I were the mother. Before I wrap this up, I'd like to say that I could feel Gerri's (Lori Lughlin) pain, the performances were spectacular, the production design was good, the writing was sharp, and the direction was strong. Now, in conclusion, if you liked Lori Loughlin on "FULL HOUSE," you'll really love her in this story about what it's like to be a single mother.

Bellow average

Acting is so-so from the adults, the children's acting is poorly done. Honestly, I found the script lacked complexity and depth within the scenes. The sequence of events are apathetic and disconnected. Good camera work, that's about it in regard to any positive comments.

A good movie, but only tells part of the story

This is a pretty good TV movie about Gerri Jensen, who found ACES, an agency to help women get the child support they are due. It is based on a true story.

When Gerri's ex husband stops paying child support, Gerri's life and that of her two young sons becomes very hard.Circumstances finally evolve to the point where she seeks out other women having trouble collecting support and ends up "a movement"

This is NOT my original comment on this movie. In fairness, I had to edit it. I had read info on the ACES website that indicated that Gerri's ex-husband had continued his pattern of non support and done other really lousy things. Recently I was looking at the site again and noticed that particular section was gone. I did a little research and it appears that it is possible that Gerri's ex and his family are NOT as bad as this movie made them appear. Yes, it IS true that her ex did get behind in his support and it is true that this led to difficulties in her life and she did start ACES because the officials in charge wouldn't help her. However, there is evidence to indicate that Gerri is somewhat anti-father and that other statements she made about her ex were NOT true and that she attempted to thwart his attempts to have a relationship with him even when he was current with his support.
