Uncovering the creepily sinister truth of a world you thought you knew can be a harrowing and frightening experience for anyone, even for those who thought they have already contended with their most malevolent emotions. Ethan Peck is struggling to cope with those dire sentiments as he encounters an entirely new, dark vision of the classic Brothers Grimm adventure of ‘Sleeping Beauty.’ To honor the actor’s new film, ‘The Curse of Sleeping Beauty,’ and the gripping new reality his character is forced to confront, Shockya has an exclusive clip from the thriller. ‘The Curse of Sleeping Beauty,’ which opened in select theaters last Friday, May 13, is receiving a wider [ Read More ]

Hollywood keeps trying to make dark fairy tales happen (Red Riding Hood/Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters), but after The Curse Of Sleeping Beauty, it might be time to give up. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a sucker for innocence lost. Who doesn’t love a good Christmas horror movie that transforms joy into fear? Granted, this adaptation of Sleeping Beauty is based on “Little Brier-Rose” by the Brothers Grimm, so deviousness is expected – but not to the degree Pearry Teo delivers. Disney’s whimsy long fades once Teo exposes the true horrors of a long-slumbering girl, yet this genre attempt struggles to find sinister definition, and might be droll enough to lull even the titular Beauty back to sleep.
Teo’s film opens on a desert landscape, as Thomas (Ethan Peck) walks towards a bed curtained by wavy sheets. A young woman lays dead asleep, who Thomas approaches,...

Created in 1994, Irish animation studio Brown Bag Films has gone from strength to strength in recent years, with the likes of Oscar nominated shorts Give Up Your Auld Sins and Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty and hot kids shows Octonauts, Henry Hugglemonster, and Dc Mc Stuffins under their belts. Now, they will embark on an exciting "new chapter" with the studio being acquired by Toronto based 9 Story Media Group, one of North America’s largest animation studios, which will open up the Dublin based animators to a much larger market and take them to the “next level". Brown Bag’s Dublin based headquarters currently employs 180 staff, and, with the acquisition, they aim to create 50 more jobs in the near future. Alongside their Dublin studio, they also have a 2D studio in Manchester and post production facilities in Los Angeles. Sometimes you see a trailer for a movie and know it’s perfect for you… that was Avengers Grimm for me. So much so that I specifically hunted down a copy for review!
An off-the-wall mix of Grimm Fairy tale characters and superhero team-up movies which, frankly, should have been obvious given the title, Avengers Grimm is the latest film from the schlockmeisters The Asylum – you know, those folks behind such films as Transmorphers, Hercules Reborn, Sharknado and a myriad of other mockbusters, cash-ins and giant sea creature movies.
Like many and Asylum movie, the plot is relatively simple: when Rumpelstiltskin uses the Magic Mirror to escapes to the modern world taking Snow White with him and destroying the mirror in the process,...

If you can get past the giant pumpkin in the ballroom — really, why bother to remake “Cinderella” in 2015 if you have no new spin on the material? — there’s a lot to like about director Kenneth Branagh’s gorgeously fanciful tale. Hewing closer to the previous Disney animated version than to the Brothers Grimm’s or Stephen Sondheim’s — no stepsisters were blinded in the making of this motion picture — it’s a perfectly serviceable addition to the studio’s princess-industrial complex. Whereas last year’s “Maleficent” retold the Sleeping Beauty legend with the witch as a central character, portrayed as someone who.

Into the Woods opened on Broadway in 1987, with the music and lyrics written by Stephen Sondheim and the book by James Lapine. It is Sondheim’s most performed musical and one of his best known works. The story combines familiar characters from childhood fairy tales such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and the ubiquitous Witch, and explores their journeys to get their wish, as well as the negative consequences of the small dishonesties committed by each character to get what they want. As the witch sings, “Told a little lie/Stole a little gold/Broke a little vow/Did you?/Had to get your prince/Had to get your cow/Had to get your wish/Doesn’t matter how.” As the story unfolds, the traditional dichotomies of good and evil, and our expectations of each character, are shaken.

The expectations were high, the hosts self-deprecating, the zingers at the ready as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler took the stage Sunday for their third stint hosting the Golden Globes.
After well-received outings in 2013 and 2014, the pressure for the comedic actresses to pull off a third successful evening was high. After all, their delivery of that George Clooney/Gravity joke from last year’s ceremony was near perfection; would they be able to top it?
From the raucous reaction inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel’s International Ballroom, that answer seems to be a resounding “hell yeah!” But we all know...
