A rare collection of artwork featuring concepts for Disneyland rides and areas that never were built has been sold at auction. Heritage Auctions handled the sales earlier this month in Beverly Hills, California.
The event spotlighted hand-drawn sketches from the Bradley/Bushman Early Disneyland Archives, which conceptualized rides and themed lands for the Disney theme park in Anaheim.
Among the theme park plans and concepts was an “Anything Can Happen” land, and plans for underwater aquariums. In the latter, guests would have walked into the mouths of the crocodile from Peter Pan or Monstro, the whale from Pinocchio, to view marine life.
Another concept detailed an 80-foot-tall statue of Goofy dressed as a clown. The colossus would have been located where the theme park’s Sleeping Beauty Castle now stands.
The “Anything Can Happen” land would’ve been based on “Anything Can Happen Day,” a weekly theme on The Mickey Mouse Club television series,...

Review: While watching Strays, I was trying to remember the last time I had laughed so consistently at a movie. With the genre all but dead on the big screen, it’s a treat to see a legitimately funny flick come along, and, indeed, this comes from the director of the last movie that actually made me laugh really hard – Josh Greenbaum of Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar.
Strays is unapologetically R-rated, with it being full of dog humping, dick-biting, golden showers and f-bombs. Still, the fact...

Ryan Reynolds' love life has gone to the dogs. Dog house, that is. The Hollywood hunk and co-star Jake Gyllenhaal recently sat down with E! News' Sibley Scoles while promoting their new flick Life, where he dished about the aftermath of a Good Morning America interview in which he admit that Jake "might just be a little bit better" in the kitchen than wife Blake Lively. "Funny enough, I'm actually living right now in an actual dog house," Reynolds teased. "Baxter is usually staying in there, but he's moved out for now. He's been upgraded to the main bed." The proud father of two little girls then clarified, "I wasn't...

British chef Jamie Oliver wants to open an American-style hot dog diner. Called Oliver's Dog House and Diner, the restaurant's menu will include hot dogs, hamburgers and ribs.
"The food will be some distance away from what most people would casually refer to as 'fast food'," a spokesperson for Oliver said. "The team are looking at higher welfare and sustainable ingredients as well as healthier options."
The chef himself hasn't confirmed that he will be opening a hot dog joint, but he recently told his Twitter followers, "Two big announcements coming your way this week." ...

Some investors anticipated that Facebook would be up today — but I don’t know anyone who envisioned a 12.5% pop to about $22.33 in mid-afternoon trading even as about 804M additional shares became available for sale. Indeed, the conventional wisdom held that history could repeat itself and the price could fall with the third expiration of a so-called lockup period which prevented many Facebook insiders from trading their shares immediately after the company went public in May. Today’s lockup expiration was the largest. Although the share price is still far below the Ipo price of $38, it’s an improvement from early September when Facebook hit a low of $17.55. The company reassured investors last month that its ad sales can continue to grow even as Facebook users increasingly access the service from smartphones. “While the stock will likely require another quarter of outperformance vs. expectations to move much above current prices, we...

The Harrisons, of Austin, Texas, hit up: "Twisters, Jesse’s aunt’s house, Tuco’s hideout, Hank and Marie’s house, Spooge’s house, Hank’s workplace, the 'corner where Combo gets it,' Jesse and Jane’s place, the gas station where Walt explodes a car, the gas station where Skyler buys cigarettes (and where Jesse gets his bike stolen), the Kimo theater, the White house, Saul Goodman’s business, the Dog House (where Jesse buys a gun), the Crossroads Motel, and the White’s money-laundering front, the car wash." Is that everything?...

The unfortunate death of Storm Chaser Matt Hughes sent shocks through the entire storm chasing community and Discovery channel family.
The upcoming storm chasers episode, titled “Dedication,” will be “dedicated to his incredible last chase and is dedicated to his memory,” according to the network.
On the Nov. 10 episode, his team struggles with the death of their friend, which is said to be “unrelated to his storm-chasing activities.”
Hughes, 30, operated the “Dog House” vehicle, which was companion of the Tornado Intercept Vehicle. The cause of his death has not been confirmed at this time.

Sesame Street. The Muppets. Labyrinth. Jim Henson is famous for many shows, films and characters. Dog City isn't one of them, but it's a great little piece of what made Jim Henson so special. It's a one-hour mini-movie, part of the short-lived 1989 prime time series The Jim Henson Hour. It's essentially a spoof of film noir, set in the 30s in a city populated by dogs. The story's narrated by Rowlf the Dog (one of Henson's earliest characters) and follows the good guy dog Ace Yu as he arrives in Dog City and takes on the resident gangster Bugsy Them. If you think this sounds like a hammy, self-aware parody with lots of bad puns, you're absolutely right. But it's great, and it actually won Jim Henson a Primetime Emmy for best Outstanding Directing in a Variety or Music Program.
