Worth it for the Ladies Involved.
russbgrant30 January 2021
An ANIMAL HOUSE rip, this one fines a group of frat bros trying to get laid. Problem with this one is that none of the main studs are all that interesting and none of the gags really work. What saves this one, or at least makes it watchable, is having Lisa De Leeuw and Tawny Pearl in the cast. Both ladies have enough charisma to make it worth a watch, just be prepared to have to sit through a pretty painful narrative. It's too bad they didn't cast studs to match the talents of the ladies.

Mildly Entertaining Take Off on Animal House

Frat House (1979)

** 1/2 (out of 4)

I Phelta Thi fraternity is the most popular around and the guys there are constantly scoring with each new lady they meet.

FRAT HOUSE has very little plot but it's clear that writer/director Sven Conrad was influenced by the various "college" films that were made after NATIONAL LAMPOON'S ANIMAL HOUSE. This film has a few winks to not only that movie but quite a few others including a small bit aimed at A CLOCKWORK ORANGE of all things.

I actually thought this was a rather well-made film that had some nice cinematography as well as some good editing. You could tell that there was actually a lot of thought that went into the sex scenes and they weren't just a bunch of bump and grind scenes but instead they were actually shot extremely well and there was an actual flow to the editing.

I thought the female performers in the film were a lot of fun and especially Lisa De Leeuw as the rather busty gal. FRAT HOUSE had one major problem and that's the fact that it is a comedy and there just weren't any laughs. I was really disappointed because I had heard this film contained a lot of laughs but they just weren't there for me and in all honesty there really wasn't much of a plot either.

If you're expecting a parody of Animal House...

Look elsewhere. Nothing is emulated. Not even the sense of humor. They put on ski masks and do a few pranks, that's about the extent of it. Most the guys are far too old to be playing college types, and the sex is lackluster. They don't even try to ape the famous soundtrack -- This one is all strings(!) and disco. Hey, at least it's got Lisa De Leeuw.

The 70's was the golden age of porn for a reason. They had the best storylines/concepts, ingenious ways to incorporate the sex into the plot (granted, sex often WAS the plot), the music was awesome (I love it when they do a song specifically about the movie), and these flicks could succeed or fail on so many levels! Frat House possesses next-to-none of these qualities. And, frankly, it's no fun... running on a fun setting.

Don't know why this Blu-ray wasn't a double feature, which is what Vinegar Syndrome more often than not does with its vintage porn. With those, at least you've got a shot at getting one good movie (or two if you're real lucky).

Frothy college-set porn comedy romp
Woodyanders15 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The rowdy guys in the I Phelta Thi fraternity hatch a plan to act out their various sexual fantasies and seduce as many hot coeds as possible during their final semester in college.

Writer/director David Worth relates the enjoyably slight story at a zippy pace, maintains an amiable lighthearted tone throughout, and perfectly captures the carefree permissive "if it feels good, do it" attitude of the late 1970's. The spirited acting from the game cast keeps this movie humming: Buxom redhead Lisa De Leeuw as the lusty Abigail, foxy Tawny Pearl as the perky Stacy, pretty brunette Hillary Summers as the sweet Cindy, Bruce Dobos as the brainy Roger, Turk Lyon as happy-go-lucky horndog Sutton, Michael Parker as clever writer Larry, Randy Allen as libidinous photographer Star, and slender Maria Tortuga as the dean's tasty daughter. The sex scenes are quite arousing and energetic, with a lively climatic orgy in a Jacuzzi rating as the definite steamy highlight. The funky-throbbing score hits the right-on groovy spot. Worth's bright cinematography provides a nice sunny look. A nice'n'naughty blast.

overall great

The women are beautiful, the action is solid, theres few standard college hi-jinks but its not meant to replicate the actual college experience. Its pure fantasy but lots of fun. A hallmark of the excellent adult films of the late 70's, which is an era that will never return. Luckily many of these films have been restored in HD and look great, IF you can find them. Highly recommended.
