"De Tranen van Castro" is an entertaining documentary about a Dutch man, a communist named "Theo", who collects bodily fluids. A bizarre hobby which leads to an equally bizarre journey to Cuba, where Theo plans to meet his hero, Fidel Castro. In addition, Theo looks to complete his collection of bodily fluids by acquiring the teardrops of the Cuban leader.
During Theo's journey through Cuba, he engages in absurd situations, like an ancient way of Cuban fortune telling. A ritual where he has to lick the neck of a beheaded chicken.
This documentary portrays an accurate image of Cuba during the 90s. We see the people of Havana struggling economically and socially. As Theo tries to discuss politics with the people in the street, he notices the support for Castro and communism is diminishing and he questions his own communist ideals.
