In “Amphetamine”, Scud's most visually polished drama about a toxic and intoxicated love between a young Australian financial executive Daniel (Thomas Price) and a straight Hong Kong jack of all trades Kafka (Byron Pang), hope is the only thing permanently absent.
Amphetamine is screening at International Film Festival Rotterdam
The melancholic Kafka is caught between working three jobs to help provide for his sick mother and a not so functional relationship with his girlfriend, who is struggling to understand his broken psyche. When she decides to break off in broad daylight in a posh bar, the boy with the sword has already caught Daniel's eye. Just to make sure we'll understand this instant crush, Scud shows us Kafka's beauty from all sides. Right at the beginning of the film, we observe him giving swimming lessons and being pestered by an elderly man who tells him “he has a body like Michelangelo's”. Soon after,...

Ryan Gosling‘s history as a leading man is so extensive in Hollywood that you might have forgotten some of his earliest days in the industry were with Disney as a member of The All New Mickey Mouse Club.
The 43-year-old actor was a fixture on the popular show alongside some of his very famous peers, including Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake. He showed off a different side of his talents back then.
It turns out that he revisited that era in his life while getting ready to film the dance scenes in Barbie. Ryan explained how in a recent interview.

From the moment he snuck out from behind Lauryn Hill’s and Kanye West’s formidable shadows to launch his own career, John Legend has always made it clear he’s an old-schooler at heart. He doesn’t need AutoTune, he takes his piano chops seriously, and he’s overall the embodiment of tasteful (verging on tame) artistry. Demonstrating once again that he’ll always be a vintage-era guy, he divides his sprawling (and questionably titled) eighth album, Legend, into two parts, Acts 1 and 2, a move that in itself recalls classic thematic albums of yore.

John Legend has announced that his new — sorta — self-titled double album Legend will arrive next month.
“Until this point, I’ve never used an aspect of my name as the title of an album,” Legend said of Legend in a statement. “I had to earn that, to live up to it by delivering in the performance and the music. And this is me saying, I’m proud of who I am, I’m confident in the work I’ve done, and I’m just going to declare it.”

When you have read as many comics down the years as me, literally in the tens of thousands, you’ve pretty much seen it all. Quirky indie books? Check. Blockbuster multi-title crossovers? Check. Inter-company books? Check. Monthly books published on time? Che….er, well I’ve nearly seen it all. Point is, when you see something a little different it does tend to catch your eye. DC’s Crimes of Passion, echoing those old lurid EC Comics books, certainly caught my eye. Essentially, it’s DC’s attempt at a Valentine’s Day Special, and why not. Actually, it is ten attempts at telling a decent Valentine’s Day story, as there are ten short stories in total, all with different characters and creative teams. Will we get lucky this Valentine’s? Let’s take a look.

Marvel Studios dropped a brand new trailer today to officially announce the Digital, Blu-ray, and 4K Uhd release of Avengers: Endgame.
The Digital version of the film will arrive on July 30th, which is a little over a month away, and will include its own exclusive look at Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter’s relationship. Meanwhile, the physical release of Endgame will follow a couple weeks later on August 13th, and though it won’t contain the “One Last Dance” featurette mentioned above, the disc will reportedly include nearly a dozen of its own behind the scenes extras.
It seems each of the three core Avengers – Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor – will receive their own supplementary feature, from a retrospective look at Chris Evan’s portrayal of Steve Rogers, to the story behind Robert Downey Jr.’s casting process, to a making of segment on Fat Thor – dubbed “Cool Thor” for this release.

“I remember those days,” says production designer Tim Galvin of the time period portrayed in “Green Book,” so it interested him to “go back down that road a little bit.” Directed by Peter Farrelly, this Universal release tells the true story of how Tony “Lip” Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen), a working-class Italian-American bouncer, took a job driving African-American classical pianist Dr. Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) on a concert tour through the Jim Crow-era South. Watch our exclusive video interview with Galvin above.

“Green Book” is unique in that it was co-written by the protagonist’s real life son, Nick Vallelonga (in collaboration with Farrelly and Brian Hayes Currie). That first-hand experience proved vital in Galvin’s research, particularly when it came to recreating Tony’s Bronx apartment. “I had to be kind of specific about things with him,” he explains, “because it isn’t the entire life story.

Alan Bates (l.) and George De La Pena star in Nijinsky.
The lives, the loves and the madness of the legendary and mercurial Russian ballet star Vaslav Nijinsky are chronicled in Herbert Ross’s 1980 film Nijinksy.
Portrayed in the film by George De La Pena (One Last Dance), Nijinsky was the most celebrated dancer of the early 20th century. But offstage, he was in turmoil, torn between the beautiful ballerina he married and the domineering mentor he loved.
Alan Bates (The Sum of All Fears) plays Sergei Diaghilev, Nijinsky’s mentor and lover who’s the impresario and founder of Ballets Russes. The increasing tension between these powerful egos, exacerbated by homosexual desire and jealousy, becomes triangular when the young ballerina Romola de Pulsky (Leslie Browne, The Turning Point) tries to draw the mentally unstable Nijinsky away from Diaghilev.

Precious Writer Pens Attica Feature for Liman: Oscar-nominated screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher will write a script based on the Attica prison uprising for Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity). The project is said to be a personal one for the director whose father, Arthur L. Liman, served as chief counsel to the New York State Special Commission on Attica Prison and co-authored the commission's report chastising then-Gov. Nelson Rockefeller and prison authorities for their role in the riot, in which 32 inmates and 10 hostages were killed, 39 of them in an assault by state police officers. In a blog entry written by Liman at 30 Ninjas, he taps out, "My father died in 1997. I had never visited Attica, never visited any maximum-security prison for that matter. In December, I set up a movie based on my father's report... The prison itself looks [like] art directed straight out of a movie. Built in 1929, it has a huge...

I spent the better part of the afternoon watching Patrick Swayze, a fine specimen who looked like a hotter version of the Brawny man and moved like a better version of the Rum Tum Tugger, a curious cat, dance on the Internet. It was sad (and briefly compounded by a brief wave of severe self-loathing for never having seen Skatetown U.S.A.), but this "exercise," and Sunkist Fruit Gems, really made today much better. Let's look at it this way: As long as nothing happens to the Internet, we will always be able to sit at work and watch Patrick Swayze dance. All day. Let's kick it. Dirty Dancing (1987) (airing on ABC Family Saturday and Sunday nights!) I mean, pick any move. The Lift is obvious, of course. My esteemed colleague Tim Stack is a big fan of Johnny's intricate arm work -- specifically The Snake hand swirl and subsequent Come Hither finger wag.

Chicago – “Dirty Dancing,” “Ghost,” film, TV and dance icon Patrick Swayze died on Sept. 14, 2009 at 57 after a 1.5-year public battle with pancreatic cancer. He was in his Los Angeles home beside friends and family.
The legendary actor made no secret of his condition, wrote a memoir with his wife since he was diagnosed in Jan. 2008 and braved through filming of the TV crime drama “The Beast” while refusing to ingest painkillers so as not to derail his performance. He was noticeably thinner on “The Beast” and shooting was difficult on Swayze physically, but he persisted with his craft nonetheless.

After a public battle with pancreatic cancer, actor Patrick Swayze passed away earlier today.
"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," said Annett Wolf, Swayze's publicist in a short statement released to the press. Swayze was married to his wife Lisa Niemi for 34 years.
Swayze got his start back in 1979 starring in the disco comedy Skatetown U.S.A. A trained dancer, he used his athleticism to further his acting jobs. In 1982 he was one of many rising young stars in Francis Ford Coppola's adaptation of The Outsiders. Swayze followed it up with a supporting role in the American war action film Uncommon Valor (1983) and a bigger, more memorable part in John Milius' Red Dawn (1984) playing the older brother of Charlie Sheen's character. Cancer-battling actor Patrick Swayze plans to film a special episode of his forthcoming series The Beast as a video-documentary for his family to watch after his death.
The episode will reportedly co-star his 50-year-old brother, Don, under the direction of Swayze's wife, Lisa Niemi, and will feature documentary-style behind-the-scenes footage of the production.
Swayze has been praised for his "workhorse" attitude on the Chicago, Illinois set - just months after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in February.
He echoed his bosses' praise last month, insisting he's feeling healthy and looking forward to recovery.
And while he is confident of a return to full health, he wants to give his family something to remember him by when the time eventually comes for his demise.
Neimi has worked as a writer, producer and actress with her husband on several projects, directing and starring alongside him in 2003 film One Last Dance.
Swayze is set to continue filming the show until November.
