Universal is looking to stay in business with Jonathan Bailey, one of the stars of its upcoming Wicked films. Bailey is in early talks for a leading role in the studio’s new take on Jurassic World, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Scarlett Johansson is already on the call sheet for the feature, which has Gareth Edwards directing and a script form Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp. Amblin Entertainment is partnering with Universal on the movie, which continues the world created by novelist Michael Crichton and originally adapted for the big screen by Steven Spielberg in 1993’s Jurassic Park. Spielberg returned to direct The Lost World (1997), with Joe Johnston stepping in for Jurassic Park III (2001).

Dev Patel is the latest actor who could be poised to join Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic sequel, which will also star Scarlett Johansson.
Dev Patel, who recently turned director and action star with Monkey Man, is said to be ‘in talks’ to co-star in Gareth Edwards’ upcoming Jurassic Park (or Jurassic World) reboot, which has been dubbed Jurassic City.
The report comes via the reliably connected Daniel Richtman (via World of Reel); if all goes to plan, then Patel will co-star alongside Scarlett Johansson – not to mention a number of CGI dinosaurs – in the upcoming film.
It’s likely we’ll be hearing one or two more similar casting announcements over the next few months, given that production is having to move at a fast pace on the next Jurassic film. Universal Pictures has already set itself a release window of July 2025, and filming is set to get underway at the...

A couple of new genre movies are headed to Netflix in April, including M. Night Shyamalan’s Split and sequel Glass, but this coming month is sadly more about what’s *leaving* Netflix.
The horror films leaving Netflix in April 2024 include Day of the Dead: Bloodline, which will be leaving the streaming service on April 4. This one’s no huge loss for most fans, as the 2018 horror movie was another lackluster attempt to reanimate George Romero’s horror classic.
Deliver Us from Evil (2014) is leaving Netflix on April 11, director Scott Derrickson’s supernatural horror movie starring Eric Bana. The film was inspired by the real life experiences of retired NYPD sergeant Ralph Sarchie, particularly based on his book Beware the Night.
Both The Meg (2018) and Train to Busan (2016) are leaving Netflix on April 22, one a killer shark blockbuster and the other a critically acclaimed South Korean zombie masterpiece.

Two-time Oscar nominee Scarlett Johansson is in talks to join the Gareth Edwards-directed Jurassic World reboot at Universal.
This has been out there in the ether for some time, but it’s looking quite solid. This puts Johansson in business with another major movie franchise following her Black Widow days at Marvel, which resulted in the star suing Disney over the 2021 pandemic release of that movie, which the studio opted to go day-and-date on Disney+, thus siphoning box office grosses. The two sides ultimately settled.
Universal is assembling the project quickly for a July 2, 2025, release. David Koepp, who adapted the first Jurassic Park from Michael Crichton’s classic novel, is penning the latest iteration of Jurassic World.
The new movie is a fresh take on a Jurassic era with Jurassic World castmembers Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard not expected to return, nor the original trilogy’s thespians Jeff Goldblum,...

Scarlett Johansson is taking a bite out of a new blockbuster. The actor is in talks to join Universal’s new Jurassic World movie, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Universal is moving quickly on the film, which has a July 2, 2025, release date. Gareth Edwards is directing the new Jurassic World, which has a script from Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp. Edwards stepped into the role after David Leitch exited following a short attachment to the project.
The film returns Johansson to the world of franchises. She starred as Black Widow in a number of Marvel Studios movies, including the Avengers features, but unlike some co-stars in the superhero world, has had no trouble breaking out in other projects. She has earned two Oscar nominations, for Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit. Christopher Nolan’s Rumored Salary for Oppenheimer Will Give Steven Spielberg an Inferiority Complex
On the heels of Christopher Nolan potentially being paid a jaw-dropping salary for his critically acclaimed film Oppenheimer, it appears that even rivals Hollywood legend Steven Spielberg. While the exact figures have not been confirmed, rumor has it that the British-American filmmaker might have been paid an estimated $72 million for the $960 million 2023 film.
For comparison, Spielberg, one of the highest-paid directors in the movie business, is said to charge between $20 and $25 million (or sometimes more) per film. So when you do the math, it’s not hard to see how Nolan’s potential pay might give Spielberg stiff competition.
Cillian Murphy in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer (2023)
Spielberg is credited with creating many successful films, including Jaws (1975), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), Saving Private Ryan (1998), Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Jurassic Park (1993), and others.

Director Gareth Edwards will direct his Jurassic World sequel at Sky Studios Elstree this year ahead of its release in 2025.
Production is moving necessarily fast on the next Jurassic World film, with Gareth Edwards and his collaborators working to meet the pre-defined release date of July 2025 set by Universal Pictures.
We heard last month that filming is expected to get underway in July; in the meantime, Universal has confirmed that the sequel will film this year at Sky Studios Elstree in the UK.
The announcement was made in the wake of British chancellor Jeremy Hunt’s spring budget today (6th March) in which he announced some new tax breaks for film and TV studios as well as tax credits for UK-based indie films with budgets less than £15m.

A new "Jurassic World" movie on the way, and it's happening in a hurry. In the span of just a month, we learned that original "Jurassic Park" writer David Koepp has returned to the franchise to pen this mysterious new entry, Universal Pictures is planning to release the film next summer, and they are looking to begin filming in just a few months. Given that we only learned about the movie's existence several weeks ago, it's all pretty surprising. So, who will be shepherding this project through production? None other than Gareth Edwards.
We recently learned that the filmmaker behind franchise films such as 2014's "Godzilla" and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will occupy the director's chair. It marks the third time that Edwards will helm an installment in a long-running franchise, which is never an easy task. Yet, both times that he stepped up to the plate, Edwards...

If you’re a 90’s kid, chances are, both Ellie (Laura Dern) and Alan (Sam Neill) are synonymous with Jurassic Park for you. While Dern did not appear in Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World, the two actors did share a romantic relationship in the first film, followed by their separation toward the end of the movie as Ellie wanted children and Alan didn’t. Jurassic Park 3, however, introduced fans to a married Ellie who had children. As much as we love the two characters, we were too naive to realize back then that the age gap between Neil and Dern...

The "Jurassic World" franchise is simply too big to go extinct. We recently learned that not only is Universal Pictures developing a seventh entry in the long-running dinosaur franchise, but the movie is set to hit theaters next summer. Yes, assuming the release date holds, we'll be seated for a new blockbuster in which humans and dinos try to co-exist in just over a year. For the moment, the studio is remaining very tight-lipped about the film, which opens the door for us to speculate wildly. That's precisely what we're going to do, while not going too off the rails with unfounded theorizing.
Rather, as a self-proclaimed super-fan of the franchise, I am going to take you, dear reader, through the options that can reasonably be considered, broadly speaking, following 2022's "Jurassic World Dominion." We're going to go over each broad possibility, as well as the pros and cons of each approach.

It's difficult enough to maintain movie props and keep them in good shape during filming, but what about when your entire movie is technically made up of props? While filming the stop-motion animated classic "The Nightmare Before Christmas," the filmmakers had to worry about preserving the sets, characters, and every item that would appear onscreen, and since a lot of things were made of foam and clay, that could be tough. Temperature could play a big factor, and on one particularly warm day, an open garage door led to an entire scene needing to be reshot.
In the new book "Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas Visual Companion", co-producer Kathleen Gavin shared a funny story about how sometimes the most humorous retakes have nothing to do with human error and everything to do with unusual circumstances. Instead of having his whole world changed by a journey through a magical...

There are some fascinating names behind A24‘s dark comedy, Death of a Unicorne, beyond stars Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega. Not only is it produced by Ari Aster, but horror master John Carpenter will compose music for the film.
In Death of a Unicorne, “A father (Rudd) and daughter (Ortega) accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat, where his billionaire boss (Richard Grant) seeks to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties.”
The dark comedy marks writer/director Alex Scharfman’s directorial debut.
Award-winning filmmaker and composer John Carpenter (Halloween), Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies will compose music for the film.
The dark comedy has fantasy elements baked into the plot, but with Aster and Carpenter involved, it feels like a safe bet that Death of a Unicorne might dip further into genre territory than first glance.

For 30 years, the "Jurassic Park" films have helped keep prehistoric beasts on the big screen, dating back to Steven Spielberg's original, groundbreaking blockbuster. Ever since, this has pretty much been the only game in town as far as dinosaurs go. Sure, other movies have tried to do dino action on a large scale, such as the recent Adam Driver sci-fi flick "65," but nothing ever seems to truly click with audiences in a meaningful way. At least not nearly on the level that these movies have for three decades.
Across three decades and spanning six films, the franchise has come a long way. For anyone looking to revisit the series, or perhaps anyone who fell off at some point and wishes to get back on board to see what John Hammond's dream of uniting dinosaurs and mankind together after 65 million years resulted in, we've got you covered. Thirty years ago, moviegoers around the world left theaters stunned after witnessing one of the most revolutionary films in cinema history, Steven Speilberg’s Jurassic Park. Fast forward three decades and Jurassic Park has expanded beyond just the confines of a remote island off the coast of Costa Rica; it has blossomed into an empire. With six films, TV shows, iconic Universal Studios rides, massive merchandise tie-ins, and more, it’s safe to say Jurassic Park has established itself as one of the cornerstones of popular culture in the 21st century, and The Lego Group has capitalized on its success. However, things haven’t always been smooth for the Lego Jurassic Park theme. We’ve unearthed the history of these brick-built dinosaurs and some of the best Lego products you can purchase on eBay at this very moment!

In 2022, Jurassic World Dominion released to the world, seemingly the final chapter in the Jurassic Park saga. If you don’t want 65 million years for cloning technology to get advanced enough to witness the re-creation of dinosaurs from DNA, or can’t travel to one of the Universal theme parks to get up close and personal, we’ve got you covered. It’s been 29 years since the first Jurassic Park film, but with six movies across three decades, it’s easy to lose a bit of the dino plot along the way.

We might be entering the dog days of summer but Hulu isn’t slowing down. The streamer’s list of new releases for August 2023 is a pretty impressive collection of content.
The biggest Hulu original this month is season 3 of true crime comedy Only Murders in the Building on Aug. 8. This time around Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd are joining the already-stacked cast that features Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. This season’s central murder appears to take place at a theater (outside the building) but I think we’ll let it slide.
That’s far from the only worthwhile original in August as Aug. 2 sees the premiere of the third and final season of superb comedy Reservation Dogs. That will be followed by South Korean sci-fi series Moving on Aug. 9, Solar Opposites season 4 on Aug. 14, and A Murder at the End of the World on Aug. 29. Of course,...

With its list of new releases for August 2023, Prime Video is relying on a heaping dose of fun library movies.
The first of the month brings a big influx of worthwhile flicks, including Galaxy Quest, Saw, F9: The Fast Saga, and Jurassic Park (the last two via Amazon’s Freevee free streaming option). Then some other recents hits arrive later on like the appropriately titled Cocaine Bear on Aug. 15 and the Chris Pine-starring Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves on Aug. 25.
August also sees the arrival of a major Amazon Original movie in the form of Red, White & Royal Blue. Based on a New York Times bestselling book, this LGBTQ romance follows a U.S. president’s son and a British prince. Over on the TV side of things, Prime Video subscribers can check out the Sigourney Weaver project The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart on Aug. 4 and Harlan Coben’s Shelter on Aug.

This article contains 65 spoilers.
65 is a movie about aliens crash landing on Earth during the age of the dinosaurs. Except that the aliens look an awful lot like they come from Earth, and the dinosaurs… don’t.
The dinosaurs presented in writer-directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’ film might have some recognizable body parts, and some may even bear a passing resemblance to a few of the bigger names from the My First Dinosaur book you had as a kid, but for the most part, the giant killer reptiles we see in that movie are monsters, nothing more, and nothing less. At one point there is a baby dinosaur that looks like a cross between a T-Rex and an Ankylosaurus, a species so far unknown outside of one episode of the Lego Jurassic World animated series. It’s 30 years this June since Jurassic Park roared into theaters. The monster franchise now boasts six films: 1993’s Jp, 1997’s The Lost World, and 2001’s Jurassic Park III — all tracking paleontologist Alan Grant (Sam Neill), paleo-botanist Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and “chaotician” Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) — and the 2015–22 reboot trilogy of Jurassic World, Fallen Kingdom, and Dominion, led by raptor trainer Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and park exec Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard). (Credit: John Wilson / © Universal Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection) Which is the indomitable best? Dominion should reign supreme, since it united the stars of both eras. Sadly, the ludicrous script and paltry interaction between the two casts proved to be the worst thing to happen to dinosaurs since that meteor hit Earth. It’s clear the classic remains the champ (although World is a close second). It gave us a truly terrifying T. rex and, through groundbreaking effects,...

Warner Bros. Discovery’s potential summer sleeper “The Meg 2: Trench” dropped its first teaser trailer, essentially the same mouth-watering footage audiences saw at last month’s CinemaCon presentation.
As noted last month, the trailer’s tagline is “They’re back… for seconds,” mimicking the refreshingly cheeky marketing that helped turn “The Meg” into a surprise super-smash. The trailer opens with two land-bound prehistoric monsters eating a large bug, with onscreen text warning that for 65 million years one species ruled the world. The answer is not the tyrannosaurus rex, but rather a megalodon which is introduced eating a T-rex.
That was actually the prologue of Steve Alton’s first novel which didn’t make it into the first movie. One may recall that “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic Park III” included setpieces and ideas from Michael Crichton’s “Jurassic Park” novel that didn’t make it into Steven Spielberg’s first dino blockbuster.

Robert Dalva, the film editor who earned an Oscar nomination for his work on the touching family adventure The Black Stallion and collaborated with director Joe Johnston on five films, including Jumanji and Captain America: The First Avenger, has died. He was 80.
Dalva died Jan. 27 of lymphoma in Marin County, California, his son Matthew Dalva told The Hollywood Reporter.
Dalva attended USC film school in the same class with George Lucas, and he went to work with him and Francis Ford Coppola in 1969 as the pair launched their innovative American Zoetrope production company in San Francisco.
The relationship paid off when Lucas hired Dalva to handle second-unit photography — he shot the land speeder going across the desert — on the original Star Wars (1977).
On the Coppola-produced Black Stallion (1979), starring Mickey Rooney in an Oscar-nominated performance, Dalva partnered with director Carroll Ballard, who also did second-unit work on Star Wars.

The film Jurassic Park was something that was ahead of its time. When I first watched it, I wouldn’t have thought it came before the 21st century. The plot line and the world where the story revolved were works of science that weren’t much-given attention in its year of release. Jurassic Park was the predecessor of Jurassic World, which also ran on the same premise where human characters were trying to do something inside a locality of dinosaurs. Its successors were The Lost World (1997), Jurassic Park III (2001), Jurassic World (2015), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), and Jurassic World

HBO Max may (hopefully) be done randomly pulling original series from the service, but there are still a number of TV shows and films due to leave HBO Max in January as part of the regularly scheduled shuffling.
Multiple seasons of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” will leave HBO Max on Jan. 3, so get those final binge-watches in Asap. And the beloved WB series “Everwood” is due to depart on Jan. 21 if you feel like seeing what young Chris Pratt was up to in the early 2000s.
In terms of movies leaving HBO Max, there are quite a lot. “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” turns into a ghost on Jan. 20, while Jon M. Chu’s delightful musical “In the Heights” leaves on Jan. 27.
Noteworthy films leaving HBO Max on Jan. 31 include the first three “John Wick” movies, the first three “Jurassic Park” films, the first two installments in the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise,...

Eventually released in the summer of 2001, the remake of "Planet of the Apes" went through decades of development before director Tim Burton was finally hired. According to the fascinating book "Tales From Development Hell" by David Hughes, 20th Century Fox was set to make an alternative sequel in 1988 titled "Return to the Planet of the Apes" with a screenplay from Adam Rifkin ("The Dark Backward"). Just before pre-production, new studio executives at Fox reportedly butted heads with Rifkin and the project was put on ice. Peter Jackson and Oliver Stone were even considered at one point, and even Arnold Schwarzenegger was attached in the mid-'90s.
Tim Burton was finally hired to direct at the start of the new millennium, attracting some of the biggest stars and character actors in the business, including Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter, Paul Giamatti, Mark Wahlberg, Michael Clarke Duncan, and music legend Kris Kristofferson.

Photo: ‘Jurassic Punk’ Steven Spielberg’s ‘Jurassic Park’ has been a recognizable film that has been successful in the year of 1993, along with his Oscar-winning movie ‘Schindler’s List.’ ‘Jurassic Park’ influenced other blockbuster films to experiment with special effects and computer animation to exceed audiences' expectations and also remind them that it is always exciting to watch a movie with great visuals. The film even gave Spielberg the opportunity to direct ‘The Lost World: Jurassic Park,’ which had more dinosaurs and computer animation. The critically-acclaimed director may not have been behind the camera for ‘Jurassic Park III,’ but Joe Johnson was. Around the late 2010s to early 2020s, three more sequels were made: ‘Jurassic World’ (2015), ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ (2018), and ‘Jurassic World Dominion (2022).’ Things to do: Subscribe to The Hollywood Insider’s YouTube Channel, by clicking here. The year of madness better known as 2022 is almost over. December is coming to an end, and like the end of every month, the streaming services are sharing which shows, movies, and specials will be leaving each platform in the next month. HBO Max shared their list for January 2023, and there are some pretty major movies leaving the streamer that fans will want to check out Asap. A few Christmas specials and movies are fairly typical losses for January, but HBO Max will also be losing huge titles like the first three "Jurassic Park" movies, the "John Wick" flicks, and "Chinatown." On the TV front, they're getting rid of the entirety of "The Bachelor" franchise and "Babylon 5," disappointing fans of both reality TV and 1990s space operas everywhere.
I've put together five of my favorite films that are leaving the streamer in January 2023, plus we have the entire list of everything that's disappearing.

Despite being the most well-known cryptid, Bigfoot has surprisingly few horror movies dedicated to it – and even fewer that are worth seeking out. After the infamous Patterson–Gimlin film purportedly captured footage of the creature in 1967, a spate of Bigfoot movies surfaced in the ’70s.
Although not the first, 1972’s The Legend of Boggy Creek is generally considered the best and most influential of the era. I was of that mindset before discovering 1976’s Creature from Black Lake via Synapse Films’ upcoming Blu-ray. While it’s certainly indebted to Boggy Creek for paving the way, Black Lake eschews the docudrama setup in favor of a traditional film narrative.
Shot on location in the Shreveport, LA area, the film follows University of Chicago students Pahoo and Rives on a school-funded expedition down south in an effort to prove the existence of the legendary bipedal primate.
