After Nearly 46 Hours, Trump Breaks Longest Twitter Silence of His Presidency to Slam ‘Leaker’ Comey
Here’s a telling sign that the storm over FBI Director James Comey’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee took its toll on President Donald Trump: He went Mia on Twitter for nearly 46 hours, the longest social-media silence since his inauguration on January 20. Thursday also marked only the second day since Trump entered the White House that he did not issue a single tweet. The last day that happened? April 15 — the Saturday before Easter when Trump spent the weekend in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, and Trump opponents in cities across the country used Tax Day as an excuse to protest.

[[tmz:video id="0_bjrtyebx"]] Donald Trump protesters and supporters have come to blows in Berkeley, California on Tax Day ... and the fight videos are completely nuts. A group of anti-Trump protesters marching for Tax Day -- in an effort to get the president to release his taxes -- reportedly clashed at Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Park with Trump supporters holding their own "Patriot's Day" rally. The scene is insane -- countless demonstrators get into fights ... swinging helmets and...

As Planned Parenthood faces the loss of federal funding under the House Republicans’ proposed plan to replace the Affordable Care Act, celebrities including Chelsea Handler, Gabrielle Union, Bridget Moynahan and Stacy London are highlighting the work the non-profit women’s health organization provides to detect and prevent cancer.
Handler recently tweeted that Planned Parenthood offers more than 650,000 cancer prevention and screening services per year, and directed people toward a group called Cancer Survivors for Planned Parenthood, which aims to unite those who are concerned politicians could “eliminate access” to that work.

Comedian Will Sasso posted a video in which he provides some pretty incredible commentary on several “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” scenes, all in the voice of The Governator, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Sasso nails the impression beyond just the voice, though. Schwarzenegger is known for the weird banality of his DVD commentary on his own movies, and Sasso nails that too (“Look they’re wearing masks here!”). If you didn’t know it was Will Sasso doing the Ahnold voice, you might just assume it’s Schwarzenegger himself — it’s that good. It’s also admirable entertainment for your Monday/Tax Day morning.

James Corden has hit the Late Late Show ground running with great viral clips starring Jon Cryer and Jennifer Hudson, and he continued that streak Wednesday as he and Katharine McPhee sang seasonallyappropriate carols on his show.
That is to say, they sang about Tax Day.
With lyrics like "My grandpa left to me one crummy lump sum" designed to "warm an accountant's heart," the pair were certainly swinging for the fences with the bit. Maybe they were just really moved by the occasion, "a time when Americans joyously donate up to 39.6 of their income to the government."

Civil unions come to Malta, judge strikes down Ohio marriage recognition law, Laura Ingraham joins ABC’s This Week
During his remarks at the White House Easter Breakfast, President Obama turned to openly gay Bishop Gene Robinson to ask for the closing prayer, surprising the bishop, who says that his remarks will live on only in memory, because it was entirely off the cuff. Considering an audience of different faiths, it’s hard to imagine the President’s move was apolitical.

Elliott Morgan and Meg Turney are leaving SourceFed. First, let’s provide some context. SourceFed is one of (if not the) most successful channels to come from the now defunct $100+ million YouTube Originals Initiative. YouTube star Phil DeFranco leveraged his already massive and actionable fanbase to launch the multiple-times-a-day news program (which I once described as being a kind of Daily Show for the YouTube generation) back in January 2012. Since then, SourceFed has amassed over 1.3 million subscribers, racked up over 660 million views, and spawned at least one geeky offshoot. The show’s success, no doubt, factored into Revision3’s acquisition of the brand along with other assets in DeFranco’s portfolio, as it displayed how the twentysomething online video entertainer and entrepreneur could build new brands that weren’t centered around him being the only individual on camera. And second, let’s get back to Morgan and Turney. Morgan was...

Ready for the ultimate oxymoron? Happy Tax Day! Today’s the day, so the pressure is on to get those income tax returns in before the IRS comes a-knockin’. In an effort to put you in better spirits on this day of spreadsheets, paperwork and dizzying displays of numbers, we consider some get-rich-quick schemes via the movies. We don’t recommend starting your own pump and dump or robbing the nearest casino, but there’s no harm in dreaming about the easy way out during tax time, right?

That's a big reason why there are very few heroic accountants in the movies (apart from, say, Ben Kingsley in "Schindler's List"). People who aren't good with numbers, like your average taxpayer and/or gangster, don't trust people who can balance the books, especially when they're telling us we owe more than we expected on Tax Day. This natural aversion to number-crunching of any kind has led to one of Hollywood's most prevalent stereotypes: CPAs are either boring, cowardly nerds like Rick Moranis in "Ghostbusters," or dastardly backstabbers like Joe Pantoliano in "Bound." As you recover from the pain of filing your taxes yet again, here's a little list of how Hollywood hates accountants even more than you do.

Have you finished filing your taxes? Did you make sure to write off all that you could in order to pay the lowest amount possible? Maybe you got to deduct that Goodwill donation and your student loan interest. How about a loss on a feature film that bombed at the box office? Have you got that? While movie studios don't do their taxes annually all at once, we can't help recalling on Tax Day the $200 million write-down Disney took last year when “John Carter” was determined to be a major flop. And that makes us want to look at the list of the largest financial failures in film history. The following titles are taken from box office data reports and websites like The Numbers, which figures the losses based on the usual deal where distributors get back only 50 percent of the reported gross. These losses are also adjusted for inflation,...

Happy Tax Day, everyone! While many of us were scrambling to file our returns, the Obamas released their tax information — and this morning, Joe Scarborough made it abundantly clear that he was not happy with what he saw. After years of asserting the wealthy should pay their "fair share," he charged, President Obama himself paid 18.4 percent in taxes on an income of roughly $608,000? "The hypocrisy in mind boggling."...

Laura Colella fell in love with filmmaking while studying at Harvard under Raúl Ruiz. Since then she has directed two other narrative features, "Stay Until Tomorrow" and "Tax Day", as well as many short films. Colella is currently a professor of 16mm Film Production and Directing at the Rhode Island School of Design. Her latest film, "Breakfast With Curtis", is currently screening in the narrative competition at this year's Laff. What it's about: A troubled teen embarks on a creative venture with his neighbor, an eccentric bookseller who has delusions of gradeur fueled by red wine. On working with neighbors and friends: "The most unusual aspect of the film is that the main actors are the five residents of the 3-family house I live in, and the family of four who live next door. All but one had never acted before, and they’re amazing and fun to watch. Early...

James Van Der Beek may not trust the, uh, tenant in apartment 23, but he so loves Mother Earth! In fact, he's getting wet and wild with the hot mama... Of course, we're talking about Van Der Beek's eco-friendly family life. "We've got a solar-heated pool," he told us at the Trident Liberate Fun Tax Day event in Hollywood. "It works pretty well in the summer. It doesn't work quite so well in the wintertime. It's old school: the panels go up on a heating coil on the roof and the sun heats it and it goes back down." But that's not all they do. "We buy organic, we recycle, drive a diesel car," he said. "Organic, non-toxic cleaning...

Last night on Conan, it was announced that Conan O'Brien and Andy Richter would play crucial voice-over roles in Halo 4. Right near the end of the game, the master chief overhears "two marines living out a real moment" — that is, Conan and Andy loading crates and chatting about snacks, depression, and crates. Or bellowing in pain at the behest of the video game producers at the recording studio. Plus: In case it hasn't already, Tax Day might leave you "buried alive with the leaves that fall off trees in the fall," just like the Marquis de Sade, ranted an insolvent Gary Busey. And, on the heels of The Artist's Oscar win, Kevin Kline suggested — and demonstrated — a silent talk show for Craig Ferguson; and Magic City's Kelly Lynch expressed her nostalgia for the Spanx of the fifties. Watch our compilation to see what you missed.

Just in time for Tax Day, Canadian icon William Shatner has written to Prime Minister Stephen Harper on PETA’s behalf urging the government to stop spending millions of taxpayer dollars to prop up the dying commercial seal industry.
Each year, the government bleeds $7 million in sealing subsidies for Coast Guard support, pro-sealing political campaigns, and extravagant forays to Asia to drum up markets for a widely banned product that accounts for less than 1 percent of Newfoundland’s economy.
“Citizens from coast to coast are being hammered by the harmonised sales tax, property taxes continue to soar, and inflation is driving away investment,” writes the former Captain of the Starship Enterprise. "So why does the government persist in throwing money away so that a small number of fishers can afford to go out onto the ice and bludgeon to death helpless baby seals? Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, Mike Huckabee, and other top Republican presidential contenders denounce Democrats as immoral tax hikers-but they oversaw dozens of tax hikes as governors facing deficits, writes Andrew Romano.
The Gop's most promising 2012 presidential contenders-Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, Haley Barbour, Mitch Daniels, and Mike Huckabee-have a lot in common. They are all white. They are all middle-aged. They were all governors at one point. And despite a shared tendency to denounce Democrats as inveterate, immoral tax hikers, they all have the exact same skeleton in their closet: a rather inconvenient history of raising taxes themselves.

Surprised? It's no wonder. Until now, Romney & Co. have done a good job of hiding their tax-raising records from the rest of the Republican Party-with good reason. In a perfect world, according to Gop orthodoxy, taxes would always be lower than they are right now,...

Obama and Republicans agree: The tax code is broken. Let's start fixing it with a new top rate that applies to actual millionaires instead of middle-class working families.
Tax Day is nobody's idea of a good time. But get ready for a year of heated tax debates ahead.

In his deficit speech last week, President Obama made clear that he intends to continue his fight to raise the top rate back up to 39.6 percent for any family making over $250,000 a year-arguing this would, in effect, be a millionaires tax. "I don't need another tax cut," the president said. "Warren Buffett doesn't need another tax cut."
