Godzilla and Mothra must fight their way through waves of alien invaders and terrible monsters.

This Godzilla game is rather good, but it has a fatal flaw. Mainly that of Mothra. In the game you alternate turns between Godzilla and Mothra on a kind of board. You land on an area and you fight through a screen of alien weaponry. There are also other monsters on this board and they take a turn as well. Mothra is just a bit weak and it just is not as fun fighting as her on a level and it just sucks to have to fight the other monsters as the moth. Godzilla on the other hand is a blast to fight with having a lot more attacks than Mothra, plus the radioactive breath. All Mothra seems to do is dust her enemies to death. There are a host of monsters from the Godzilla franchise to fight too as there is Gidorah, MechaGodzilla, Hedorah, and Gigan. Strangely absent from the game are Rodan, Anguris, and Megalon and the inclusion of say an octopus that I do not believe even appeared in a Godzilla movie other than say Final Wars which came out years later, and Baragon who is a Gamera villain makes the exclusion of these characters even more puzzling. They even have Baigon in this game, and Baigon is only famous for being the monster Mothra was initially going to fight in the movie Mothra versus Godzilla, but they replaced it with Godzilla as they thought Godzilla would be a better draw. So all in all a fun game, just needs work on the levels and Mothra's combat and it would have been super.

Gojira: Novel but flawed

Since I'm presently on a Godzilla binge it seems only right to mention (And review) the one Godzilla video game I actually played and owned back in the day.

Released for the original NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) you can play as the titular character or Mothra.

You navigate various levels from earth to alien planets in a side scrolling effort with beat em up style boss battles.

The bosses include various movie monsters, though oddly most weren't actually from the Godzilla franchise!

The music is as hokey as you'd expect for a 1980's game as are the visuals. They do however have a certain charm unless that's the nostalgia talking.

Sadly repetition and some nasty screen tearing really damage the game.

The Good:

Fairly loyal to the source material

A few passable ideas.

The Bad:

Screen tearing

Get's old real fast

Things I Learnt From This Game:

Monsters fight in complete darkness

Godzilla can.......jump!?

Godzilla: Monster of Monsters

The Godzilla series is one of the most unique fighting video games! The monsters, the action, and the sure thrill of excitement makes this game a fun non-stop playing time! Below is a brief look how I think the game is!

Game Play: The game play is very good. There is really basic controls here and is easy to perform. Novice gamers should have a good time here!

Graphics: The graphics are wonderful especially for the original Nintendo System! The backgrounds are really beautiful!

Difficulty: The game is easy but as it goes on you find out that it will become more difficult!

Music: The music is great! Just fantastic catchy tunes through out the game! In My opinion its some of the best music ever in a video game!

Sound: The sound is great. Nuff said!

Overall: I have always loved Godzilla: Monster of Monsters! If you like excellent fighting and monster games then I strongly recommend you play this game!

Great adventure game for Godzilla Fans!
The Bronson Fan16 June 2004
Godzilla Monster of Monsters is Godzilla's big video game debut on the Original NES. To an average video game player, this game will not be much and to many others it will be a crappy game. To a Godzilla fan, this game is great fun and game play come true. Well here it is, in the year 2XXX Earth receives declaration of war from planet X and will use all the force including the legion of super monsters to conquer us and the universe. Behold Earths defenders Godzilla and Mothra must now do battle against the forces of planet x and there monsters. You play as either Godzilla or Mothra, both sometimes and move your way through most of the planets of the solar system until you reach planet x for the final showdown with King Ghidorah. Each has his or her own ability. Godzilla slower, but much more powerful, punching, kicking, tailing chopping and of course radioactive fire against opponents. Mothra is faster but lacking in strength, use agility and eye beam with poison to defeat her foes. On each planet you will move on hexs representing a stage and then will side scroll fighting and smashing your way through all that oppose you.

On each planet you will face a certain number of monsters, usually increasing every level. Once defeating them you gain energy and power and move on to the next level. Fans of Godzilla and Toho will recognize many of the vehicles that are in each level ranging from Super x from the Godzilla franchise to the flying subs of Atragon. But the real stars are of course the monsters which are also Godzilla or Toho related. Gezora, Mogera, Varan, Hedorah, Baragon, Gigan, MechaGodzilla and King Ghidorah all await you on the battlefields of the solar system each harder as they go. Moving onto a hex that contains a monster you must engage, eventually with one of you prevailing. Game play will probably become to repetitive for the average person, fans wont have much of problem here though. This can be fairly difficult, but mastering it and you will not have to much trouble, except against cheap stuff (Gigans buzz saw, fire craft). And Mothra can defeat all opponents even Ghidorah if you are good, trust me, I am. The graphics are not the best, but every thing is clearly shown. The toons are catchy but nothing to special, with a good ending that is better then some of those on the modern day systems Overall for me 10/10 and great game that wont be soon forgotten. Cant wait to play the modern Godzilla games. Tri star sucks!

Great Godzilla game
Rautus27 September 2007
Godzilla: Monster of Monsters is a adventure game on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), the game has you playing as the legendary monster Godzilla and Mothra as you go through different planets fighting different monsters.

The game play has two styles, a overhead map like a chess board where you move one of your Monsters across the map, after you stop on a part of the map you go into a side-scrolling mode where you go around smashing things that are in your way like ships, turrets and other things, after your turn it's the enemy Monsters turn.

If they select your Monster you go straight into the fight but if you pick them you have to do a side-scrolling section before fighting it.

The fights last for 40 seconds and if no monster gets beaten it's a draw, the Monster's health can regenerate before fighting them again.

Godzilla: Monster of Monsters is a great game that can get a little repetitive at times but is still fun to play. Check it out. 10/10
