This series gave Dizzy Flores an actual name. In the novel, Flores was a male, and a very minor character. He was referred to as "Dizzy" several times during his one scene, and it is unclear as to whether that was his name or a nickname. In the 1997 Starship Troopers movie, he was turned into a female love interest, though it is still never clearly stated as to whether or not "Dizzy" is her legal name. On the Roughnecks series, one of the writers just decided to give Isabel as the legal first name, hence "Isabel 'Dizzy' Flores."
This series was supposed to have 40 episodes, but due to resource problems, the project was eventually cancelled ending at Episode 37, the mission where the Roughnecks had to defend Oahu with Johnny Rico being the lieutenant.
Rino Romano said that when recording the voice-over session of Carmen kissing Rico on the final episode of the Tesca campaign, Susan Blu was the one that gave a kiss instead of Tish Hicks.
The character design for Corporal Richard "Doc" LaCroix was one of the original designs meant for Lieutenant Jean Razak.
