The very best film by Mazzaropi
guisreis17 March 2022
This is probably the best film by Brazilian popular and iconic comedian Mazzaropi (and certainly the best among his movies I have watched so far). Dialogues are a little floppy and flimsy, and as a comedy it does not work well (as Mazzaropi's films in general, in my opinion; sorry, fans...). However, it is well filmed (despite a few edition problems) and - the most important - it portrays harsh times of slavery. For a mainstream high grossing movie in the 60's, it is not trivial. Indeed, I must add that there are beautiful scenes of the black people under slavery conditions: not only the tough ones showing dire corporal punishment, but also, and specially, the one in which their culture is brought, with sad songs and resilient dances. Worth watching (I do not use to say it about Mazzaropi cinematography, which, however, has a huge number of fans).
