Intelligent and quirky children's show
jfryleach3 June 2019
I recently bought the dvd of the first season of this series as I have fond memories of the series from when it was first shown particularly the credit sequence of children playing Hopscotch. Re-watching it I was impressed with how it dealt with some quite serious topics,Set in Birmingham the family subsequently headed by Jess the eldest sister played by Christine McKenna (Flambards) assumed the mother role in the series, trying her best to hold a job down and keep her siblings in check and on the right path. Writers included future star scribes Lynda La Plante, Gail Renard and Phil Redmond(Brookside & Emmerdale farm) A great mix of comedy and drama from an age when everything didn't have to have a message and just concentrated on an entertaining storyline and engaging performances from the largely young cast.
