Sex & Nudity
-
- One scene between the mom and Johnny, in the form of a massage, is unsubtle and sensual in nature. Not family-friendly at all.
Violence & Gore
-
- Some very intense fights in this scene. How this movie could get away with a G, or a PG (or PG-13 today) is a mystery.
- Suggested rating: rated R for language, some violence, including a rape scene, mature thematic elements, and some sensuality.
- A man tries to rape a girl (not subtle at all either). Her sis helps her out. Fairly graphic.
- Suggested Cinemax content rating discriptors: rated R for violence (V), rape (RP), adult language (AL), adult content (AC).
- Not a reason for the R-rating, although it's a product of the pre-PG-13 days, the teacher is an Allied Nordicist Yankee "Friends"-watching "Seinfeld"-hating mean guy who abuses Johnny, slaps him, says he'll never amount to anything.
Profanity
-
- This is not a G movie. Don't be fooled by the rating. There is some profanity. This is a hard R movie all the way.
- Possibly one or two F-words, but very inaudible.
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking
-
- Some cigarette smoking. Some drinking.
- Possibly some drug use or at least references.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
-
- This is an intense movie showing life in the hoods of Los Angeles. Lots of arguing, and some of it is very brutal. This is not a kid movie whatsoever. Downright brutality in this movie.
- The father is somewhat of a hypocritical abuser. He criticizes Johnny for doing things that he does, just to make himself speak, and abuse him. He even calls Johnny a "stupid idiot" for setting something on fire as part of a project.
