More glitz and glam.
ms_bunni12 June 2005
Once again, another movie, but same plot, same things that happen, same old same old. They go to a different country where they meet new guys, see new places, and shop. It's no telling it's pretty easy to say how the movie is going to end and what happens. I really like Mk and A, I really do. I love them in fact. I think they bring this 'cute' and really cool thing to all their movies, sometimes even making their characters seem perfect. We don't fall for the things their feeling, and we don't believe their problems are actual problems. The way they solve their problems are so... clear and predictable. Maybe they should create some twist or turn? Once again, saying it is a cute movie, but to make it into a movie considered awesome? Needs more thought.

Cheesy almost to the point of being good.
angrybunhead9 April 2010
This movie is deliciously cheesy, and undoubtedly a childhood favorite. If you're looking for a "quality" film, you obviously won't find it here-- but that's the whole point of Mary-Kate and Ashley's movies. They aren't really meant to be quality. They're meant to ooze a sort of hokey charm that you can't help but roll your eyes at. They aren't meant to be taken seriously, and obviously the general population takes itself too seriously to see that.

"Passport to Paris" is chock-full of poorly written dialogue, cheesy editing, and a ridiculous plot-- which I can say all only continue to contribute to its hilarity.

It isn't meant to be a prestigious indie film, so why treat it as such? If you have the guts to stop being a self-titled "film aficionado" for 90 minutes or so, I suggest that you lay your pride aside and let yourself chuckle at the "so-bad-it's-good" essence that encompasses this movie.

Not so good Not so bad
liby_and_kabiya9 December 2004
Well, first off, the twins are exactly the same. there is no one is girly and one is tomboy (Ashley is taller than Mary-Kate though) and their boyfriends aren't even French, so that is bad because they are faking the accents. Lamo. It is also not that bad, not their best. I am A big Mary-Kate and Ashley fan, don't get me wrong. the storyline is OK and it is funny to watch. it is not the type of movie that you would watch over and over again. But hey, when they made this movie they were still new at the whole making their own movie thing. The girls also act like they are older then 13. but if you are a young viewer this is a good movie. Not so good if you are older than 13 unless you are a parent watching a movie with your kids. then it's OK. Good luck MK+A with your future movies!

Good movie for the younger Mary Kate & Ashley fans and teens.
ssdude23 January 2000
An average dialog for a pre-teen/teen movie. Nothing objectionable for younger kids who like Mary Kate and Ashley. It is good to know there are movies that don't have violence (Disney) that are entertaining too. Families can enjoy watching this movie together. Not a thinking movie, just a well done movie for the target audience.

It doesn't get too deep into lessons of life, but shows how older people can stop and remember what it is like to be young and adventurous again and enjoy life to the fullest.

Two thumbs down (way down)
wonderangela24 December 1999
this is horrible film. it is past dumb. first, the only thing the twins care about is how they look and what boys like them. they are in 7th grade. not to say i am a prude or anything but it sends the wrong message to girls of all ages. being pretty and popular is not everything. but that is what the twins make it out to be. The plot is even worse. the girl's grandpa just happens to be the ambasitor(sp?) to France. He has a co-worker take the girls around paris and they meet two "cute french boys" with motorcycles. they sneek out to meet the boys start to really like them ETC.....they meet a supermodel in process and go around paris with total strangers they think are cute. need i say more? this movie may be cute to 8&9 year olds. the twins play ditsy losers that want boyfriends. it makes sends the wrong idea to girls. the film itself is not great either. i don't recomend this to anyone. i give passport to paris 2/10

i would summarize this movie by saying AAAAAAAAAARGH
treehuggingnut2 December 2005
OK I watched this movie. Someone needs to kick me. WHY must the Olsen twins insist on subjecting the world to this putrid torture? This was another movie of watching the Olsen twins travel to an exotic location, meet some cute guys, look pretty and have everyone drooling over them.the direction, the plot development, ugh the acting. i don't know about the U.S., but in my country it is considered extremely stupid to hop onto the bike of a guy u met like,10 minutes back. though i'm now convinced that these girls will never learn to act, i really hope that one day we'll get to watch a movie with an original, even slightly plausible plot.

Too bad to be true
nikhil_johri12 December 2003
This movie sucks so bad. Its funny to see what a poor story this has, where two pea-brained American twins who know about nothing outside their school can come to another continent, and do unimaginable things there. Its just so stupid and so bizarre. How can they just find two French guys, hit on them and in the end kiss them, not knowing anything about them? More realistic would have been having the guys take them away and rape them, which could have easily happened in such a situation. As for the bit where they make the French President drink 'bad water', that was just lame. I don't think he would have been too pleased in real life. Everything worked out too easily for the girls, and they could have been in real trouble many times in the movie, if it at all depicted real life.

One of their better...
AngusYoungBinge15 January 2006
Everyone knows that the Olsen twin movies from 1999 and on have had one basic plot: the girls go to a touristy foreign country, meet two hot guys, kiss them a couple of times, wear great fashions, have 'exciting adventures', and then go home after a couple of weeks.

Well, this is one of their better ones.

When I was little I loved Mary - Kate and Ashley, so of course I saw this movie. Basically, two twin girls named Mel and Ally Porter go to France to stay with their grandfather with their parents hoping that they'll pick up a little culture. After the first few days the girls almost get hit by those two 'hot Perisian boys', meet a supermodel, and manage to effect the way things are going on in their grandfather's house.

While Mary - Kate and Ashley's acting is so - so, the real talent comes from the other cast members. Brocker Way is excellent as Jean, Ashley's interest throughout the movie. Yvonne Scio and Matt Winston are also funny as Brigitte (the supermodel) and Jeremy, the man assigned by their grandfather to watch the girls.

It may be stupid, but if you've got nothing better to watch on the weekend then I suggest you give it a try.

Is There A God?
Cyprus38610 June 2000
Just what the world needed-another superficial cookie-cutter Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen movie. This movie gives out horrible messages to girls everywhere, complete with stereotypical "junior high" experience. They make learning anything at all seem completely taboo. I can't stand the fake French accents, or those guys on the mopeds racing around who eventually "fall" for the twins. Why am I putting everything in parenthesis? Because its all stereotyped. The twins even complain about not having a stereotypical grandfather. They should be happy they even have a grandfather at all. How does this fit the Mary-Kate/Ashley mold? This one has them fixing up a single guy who (gasp!!) ISN'T THEIR FATHER!!!!! Yes, folks, they actually have a mother who appears for all of five seconds. I haven't even sat through thirty minutes of this and I can already tell how it will end up. This movie is so pitiful, it makes Miss USA seem like an academic bowl. Really.

Predictable, but good fun for teenagers.
TheLittleSongbird21 May 2009
I honestly do think this is one of Mary Kate and Ashley's better outings, along with New York Minute and I am 17. All the rest are predictable and not as entertaining. The two twins are very cute as Allyson and Melanie. The plot consists of Allyson and Melanie going on holiday to Paris to stay with their grandfather, played respectively by Peter White, and he doesn't take any notice of them. I will admit that the plot is very predictable, especially with the inclusion of the two boys, as that is in almost every Mary Kate and Ashley movie. The script was sometimes funny, with the character of Brigette pointing out the girls' mistakes with french, but at other times it was over-familiar. It also starts a bit slow, however the film is nicely performed, I liked the characters of Brigette and Jeremy, has a fun soundtrack and some very funny gag reels in the end credits. All in all, a sweet but predictable movie. 7/10 Bethany Cox.

Well what can I say, does the word 'awful' cover it?
Rokol3 January 2005
Oh yes, I admit I have made myself guilty of the crime of seeing this piece of trash. I can't say I was forced by aliens who pointed a gun at my head, tied me to a chair and made it impossible for me to close my eyes and then turned this awful excuse for a movie on. No I did it with free will. I deliberately tortured myself. Let's go through the fact here folks. - The acting is an insult to humanity. - The plot (if it exists) is ridiculous. - The character development is horrendous - The characters that appear in the movie are so clichéd you would

recognize them in your average comic book. - The editing is sloppy and unimaginative. - The camera-work is low key. - The dialogue is simply the worst in cinematic history. - The directing: well let's say, I bet it wasn't Hitchcock.

Then to add to these facts, there was absolutely no talent involved wath so ever. The director must be smoking crack now to forgive himself for inflicting this poison to the world.

Bottom line: Passport to Paris is one of the worst movies ever made. PERMANENT!

Chill out, people...
i_munch_on_dinos16 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
A majority of the comments on here are complaining about how the movie is "dumber than a box of rocks" and stereotypical. Well, I guess the thing that people don't realize is that this is a MARY KATE AND ASHLEY MOVIE. It's sole purpose? To cash in on the whole Mary Kate and Ashley craze. And, well, it fulfills that purpose. Of course, being straight to video and aimed towards loyal fans, the movie has very low production values (they try on clothes OUTSIDE the "store" during the shopping scene and the "museum" they walk through is CGI). But this movie is actually a pretty fun one for the audience it was aiming for. I don't think an intellectual looking for a in-depth review of Paris would particularly enjoy this movie... and it beats me why they'd even pick it up.

This installment in the Mary Kate and Ashley direct-to-video movie series doesn't bring anything really new to the table. But for preteen girls interested in feeling happy, following the girls having fun in an exotic location, and viewing the cute fashions, this isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Seventh graders Alyson and Melissa had it all. They had the trendiest clothes, the hottest gossip, the cutest boyfriends-- but their parents believed the twins were just too wrapped up in their social life. To get them out of their small world, they decided they'd send them away to stay with their grandfather, the ambassador, in Paris, France for Spring Break. This meant that Ally and Mel weren't going to be able to attend the hottest party of the year with the two hottest boys in school, who happened to like them. Reluctantly, the girls boarded the plane and traveled from Southern California to beautiful Paris.

Their grandpa, much too busy to accompany his granddaughters in seeing France, hired a man named Jeremy to show them around. Grandpa's rules were strict; Ally and Mel were to follow an organized schedule of art museum after art museum, each and every day. The girls quickly grew bored of this, and their focus was further interrupted upon meeting two cute Parisian boys, John and Michel(sp?). They began to sneak off with these boys to see France in the way they wanted to see it: spontaneously and fun. Along the way, they also befriended renowned supermodel, Brigit (why a famous supermodel would spend her time shopping with two 12-year-olds beats me), who distracted Jeremy when they began dating.

One night, the girls returned home from a date with John and Michel in a cop car. The grandfather then forbade them from ever seeing those boys again and they had to attend a fancy dinner instead of a party where John and Michel's band would be playing. He at first seemed firm, but quickly changed his heart once he saw the boys sincerely apologizing at Aly and Mel's window. He saw how much the children truly loved each other. Grandpa apologized to his granddaughters, as he should have been spending time with them himself, but told them they still had to attend the dinner that night.

After a heated and intelligent discussion the girls presented at dinnertime, Grandpa, impressed, allowed the girls to go to their party. The night ended with the twins kissing their respective boyfriends, and Brigit and Jeremy even sharing a kiss.

The next morning, it was time for the girls to return to America. Every person they met on their journey would greatly miss them and await their next visit. The parents plan of culturing their children seemed to be a success, as they soon took up an interest of learning about different cultures and seeing the world. They even declined a fro-yo date with the boys they used to like, after seeing what jerks they were.

In the end, even though not too much learning occurred, Alyson and Melissa got to see what love was really like, and that other cultures can be really cool if you give them a chance. People criticizing this movie for encouraging girls to be shallow apparently missed the point. This trip taught the protagonists to break out of their small circle of gossip and popularity, and see the real wonders of the world.

Pretty good

I'm in the midst of my Mary-Kate and Ashley movie marathon and I quite liked this one. But someone tell me what in god's name was the main conflict of the story? Who cares. And I quite liked the terribly fake french accents and the fact that they tried on their outfits outside of the store.

is this a joke?
emilie860516 December 2003
the boys were the most appealing things in the entire movie. the girls were lame and pathetic, i mean, how can they own their own clothing line, dolls, movies, producing studios, and not smell this bomb from far away? in order to gain some sort of responsibility, which i dont really see the sense in the punishment..., they are sent to paris, far far far away from home to live with the so-called strict grandfather who holds an important standing with paris. i cant really remember what he was, so who really cares? the detail doesnt help, the girls are sent to paris to learn something.. so what exactly do they learn when they meet two french boys and are able to manipulate the guy that supposed to watch them so they can meet these guys on scooters? the typical pre-teen movie, having all pre-teens wishing to misbehave and be able to afford the trip to paris or some far away country away from parents? i dont really like the olsens anyways, they never could really shake off the image of michelle, on full house... in case you didnt see that, then you were lucky from the start. "It's Just a Kids' Film" does NOT excuse it from being terrible.
jabaligian29 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this with my French class. It's the week before Spring Break, and my teacher said she would have us watch a French film. I was hoping for something along the lines of "Les Miserables," but instead we got this.

So, the film starts off with two snobby, self-absorbed 13 year old girls. They use up just about every 1990s slang word within the first 10 minutes. Just as they are about to go to the dance with some boys, their parents decide to take them to Paris with their grandfather. The girls act like they have just gone bankrupt or something, they are completely depressed. Of course, this is just the start.

When they arrive to Paris, their ambassador grandfather shows them around, and brings them a fellow named Jeremy to escort them around the city of love. You have your typical scenes for a "going to France" movie...but it just makes things worse. They meet French boys, they have a terrible green-screen exploration of the Louvre, and, (later on in the film,) have a shopping spree. Once they eat dinner at the French Embassy, however, they spit out all the food at the waiter. I mean, do kids think that's funny or something? Every bloody joke in this film resulted in groaning from everyone in the classroom.

But here's the part that really gets me: the end of the film. Melanie and Ally are only in Paris for about three days, and at a party, they explain to the other ambassador why France should have clean water, and they explain the history of Paris. WHAT?!? They've only been there for two days, and suddenly they know all about the place?!? NO. But it gets worse when Melanie and Ally go give the stubborn French chef MCDONALD'S. Shows the kind of place America is. The chef ends up loving it, the grandfather has a change of heart and decides to let Melanie and Ally stay away from the boys he told them to leave, and Melanie and Ally go to the dance with the boys. Jeremy, the escort who BARELY MATTERED in this entire film, gets one of the hottest women in France.

I get that they had to keep it simple for kids. But to test it out, I got my little sister, 8 years old, to watch this and see what she thought. She thought it was terrible.

So I don't think "it's just a kids' film" will cover this film up. It is terrible. The sloppy writing, the terrible acting, the horrible music and editing, it's just an embarrassment. May God have mercy on the people who thought this was good...

Warning: Spoilers
A stupid movie, with a stupid plot. Feels like they threw every imaginable cliché in a blender. I especially "Liked" the part, where two teenage girls gets the french president to clean the water. Because we all know how dedicated America is to conservation of the environment. Kyoto, anyone?? And the french chef, who has apparently never seen or tasted a hamburger... This is why people think Americans have no culture. That, and the fact that we meet your kids when they come to Europe to "see the world" (i.e. eat at McDonalds in foreign capitals) They are not as dumb as the two ditsy preteens in this movie, but they have just about the same amount of cultural enlightenment and good manners.

Warning: Spoilers
I saw this movie in Discovering language class in school. Not a very good movie

Now Mary Kate and Ashley. They are not horrible actresses, but it's hard not to judge their acting when they've been acting since they were babies. The "Noooooooo" near the beginning of the movie is one example to show their acting ability. The stereotypes include the following: French/Foreign food is disgusting, French boys are all gentlemen and hot, male French adults are all snobs. On the bright side, at least everyone didn't wear berets. Speaking of the French boys, their relationship with the girls was either creepy because they were driving mopeds and you have to be 15 or older to drive a moped in France,(the main characters are 12, or barely 13, I can't quite remember) or not researched and the French boys were 13. Also the ending, where one of the boys kissed one of the girls, that was cliché, expected, and if the creators did do the research, creepy.

Cliché, dumb, stereotypical, and bad acting.

This movie was great! It was really funny and was cast extremely well. The plot, characters, etc were very original. This movie is a great film and I give it 2 thumbs up. I also recommend that all young girls see this movie cause its within that age group. Everything about this movie was terrific. It sends a positive message. It's a great feel good movie. Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen were great in this movie!!!!! They played their parts perfect. Everyone did. Every single person in this cast was terrific. It's really, really, really excellent movie and it was probably one of the best films Mary Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen did!!!!!!!!

Passport to Paris is a 1999 teen comedy starring the Olsen twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Two teenage girls who are going to school decides to visit their grandfather in Paris. While there they meet two French boys who both fall in love with . They also befriend a French model who falls in love with a guy that the twins have meet.

Will they leave the French boys behind and stay in France or will they go back to their normal life in America. If your a fan of the Olsen twins you would like this movie.

For me I found this movie to be very cliched and thourghly predictable, as I knew from the get go what was going to happen throughout the entire film. If you liked when in Rome you would like this film.

I was a teenager when this movie came out and I have to say It was one of my favorites. I still enjoy the movie. I have it on VHS and my friends also like Mary-Kate and Ashley movies. I liked the movie because it was cute, funny, and I have always liked Mary-Kate and Ashley movies. They wear cute clothes and are cool. I enjoyed the music in the movie also. I can relate to them because I love shopping, going to restaurants, and boys. This is a cute film for teenage girls and a film with a rating that anyone can see. I plan on buying more of their films to add to my collection. This movie was a Xmas gift for me and my cousin also got this movie....i wonder why.......could it be that its an excellent movie? Yes.

Absolutely ridiculous...
kayla-6795325 July 2022
Ok obviously this movie was made 23 years ago, but that doesn't excuse the fact that it is ridiculous! The twins can't act to save their lives and they are definitely NOT what you want as role models for your own kids! All this "He's so cute!" junk and "who would you rather kiss?". I know it's typical tween stuff, but it's still so shallow and ridiculous. Plus they spit food out that they don't like, sneak out if the embassy, run away from chaperones and that's just getting started...and by the end, they are off the hook and they've convinced they grandpa he's an old fuddy duddy...they are just whiny, spoiled brats who need a serious wake up call. I don't want my daughter thinking this is acceptable behavior. There are definitely better movies for your younger kids besides this typical "we've seen this same plot and ending a hundred times" mess. Don't waste your time.

crap movies
ThunderKing69 September 2020
Boy or Girl. They were in some crappy movies. All movies were wholesome family orientated and lovey dovey, then the twins in real life became dark.

Seen this movie way back in the day. What was the point?

Its corny even for a 90s movie.

Every movie they were in were trash. Full House aka the white Family Matters 20 years later was also suburban trash.

How did they become rich without reception successes?
